  • Can you use other brands of ink besides the Silhouette Mint ink with the Silhouette Mint stamp machine? That's one of the first questions that I had when I heard about the Mint, and in this video I'll show you the results of my initial ink testing with a number of different brands of ink.

    Thank you so much for making this video... it is exactly what I was searching for. I'm still trying to decide if the Mint is something I need in my life for what I'm wanting to do. I'm the kind of person that before I buy "nifty gadgets", I pour through hours of YT videos to see all the pro's and con's and to just see it in action by people that are both new to the craft or more "seasoned", so I can make an informed decision. One of the biggest things holding me back on the Mint was whether I could use different inks, or would be "forced" to use only the Silhouette inks. You answered that question here. So now the only thing kind of holding me back is that I'm very "frugal" and I absolutely hate wasting product.... and I don't like the amount of ink "wasted" in just getting a clean and clear stamping. I would much prefer to just coat the stamp (like regular stamps) and use it.... rather than "load" the stamp with ink. I also want to be able to switch colors easily, but I'm worried "old" colors will bleed through if I change to a different color. But I'm really drawn to the "make your own custom stamps". LOL I'm still just so torn as to whether this is the product for me.

    Were you able to figure out what type of gold ink could best be used with the mint stamps? I want to make a return address mint stamp and use it on dark envelopes like dark green or black. Just wondering if you figured out what type of gold ink works best with the mint stamps for that purpose?

  • @lisaleone2296
    @lisaleone2296 Před rokem

    Thank you for this video. The reason I have decided against using the Mint is that you're pretty much relegated to using a single color ink for a while with a given stamp. In theory I could make multiple stamps if I wanted to use different colors, but I would rather just make photopolymer stamps and be able to use any ink pad.

You may have already checked it out, but I actually released a video just today where I tested the Mint stamps with the Tonic Studios Tim Holtz stamp platform : czcams.com/video/VfMVK89yx-E/video.html . @kdotbecca  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi, Heidi Lynn M! The re-inkers are a great suggestion - I actually tested out a Distress Ink re-inker in the video and had pretty decent results - but I use inkpads because I don't have a lot of re-inkers (besides Distress re-inkers) and figure that's the case with a lot of people. But, yeah, definitely test re-inkers for other brands of ink if you have them!

    I tried the ranger achival black ink however I find the black is too cold (blueish) compared to the Mints original neutral / warm ink. Can you recommend me any pads, I'm printing on painted wood and so I don't mind more rough looking stamps. I find at the moment my prints don't transfer very well on the wood so I'm really hoping for a good black ink pad I can use.

    • @kdotbecca
      @kdotbecca  Před 5 lety

      Owen Prescott - Of the inks that I've tried with the Mint stamps, I'd recommend the Versafine Onyx Black ink. It's a more warm, neutral black without any blue undertones. I haven't tried stamping with it on wood, but I have seen a couple of projects from others who have (on unfinished wood) with great results. This is an oil based pigment ink, so I'm not sure how it will work on a painted wood surface. If you haven't checked it out, here's a follow-up video where I test this ink and some other inks : czcams.com/video/Ghrn7N4BEWs/video.html
