Dominion Raceway Oh Sh!t Moment - Off track at Turn 1

- My second session on a brand spankin' new track, Dominion Raceway. Good run until I locked it up into turn one, it went left to one wall, then right to the other wall, then I made a command decision to do whatever it took to get it straight and go off. Made a field goal between two cones! My autocross experience pays off! (Go to 6:30 to cut to the chase)
This kind of stuff happens FAST so I had to make a quick decision. In hindsight I probably could have turned in at the end, but also could have met with some concrete so I'm OK with the result! Seat time makes the difference between bent metal and a few rocks in the fenders, so find your local driving school and get to it!
Wow! Enjoyed watching the whole thing........good save!
Sufficiently slowed down to have turned, but on a road course its always safest to get off track pointing straight when possible to avoid a rollover. Plus it allows the adrenaline from the oh sh!t moment to pass and regain your composure.
You handled that like a champ. Good job keeping the dirty side down! Looked like nice lap times too. What were you running? Looked like low 1:30's.
Thanks! Yes, shiny side up always. 1:33 is my personal best:czcams.com/video/YrZzOjR92Wo/video.html
That turn 1 section was pretty sketchy. You made the right decision! Hopefully the next time we are at Dominion that there will be some form of a sand trap before that wall.
A little sand trap/loose gravel wouldn't be a bad idea. In hindsight I wonder if I should have got off the brakes and turned in but that could have gone south.
Why the dislikes?
There are always the envious ones who feel the need to pipe in. Car sounds great, BTW
What car and tires? The tires sound like high performance summer (street) tires? Engine has effortless power!
E30 BMW with a LS1 out of a 2001 Corvette. Hoosier R-comp tires
@@Zach33 Nice!! The squealing rubber threw me off a bit. That is a very sweet set-up.
LS swap?
yes, LS1
Sounds great, using Vorshlag's swap kit or something else?
I used the Sikky kit. Aluminum engine and tranny mounts, aluminum driveshaft, ceramic coated headers. Made that part of the swap much easier!
Nice, I noticed after asking that Vorshlag doesn't seem to have an E30 kit anyway.
