- CHASING CICADAS - BROOD X!
GREG'S CHANNEL: / @mountaingoatgreg1691
Brood X is a cicada hatch that happens once every 17 years! This is one of the largest hatches in the eastern US and can make for some unbelievable fishing. During this hatch nearly every species of fish that swims will eat dry flies. This makes a day on the river probably some of the most fun you can have while fly fishing. With the dirty water our success was limited but when we finally found the fish the payout was amazing. I was able to hook and land my first carp on the fly, and it took a dry fly. This is dry fly fishing for trout, but on steroids.

I hope you enjoy this video! It is a little different than the usual upload. Thank you so much to everyone who watches.
Looked pretty fun to me!
fish hawk!
It was a blast!!
5lb+ fish sipping dries say whaaa. Let's goooo!
Doesn't get too much better than that!
Big carp can and will pull a kayak down and back up the river. I used to be a River Rat. As soon as a carp realizes he's hooked he'll run yards and yards till he poops out. Sooo much fun to catch on an ultralight setup.
Yep I agree! Carp can be a blast. I've caught them on accident before and thought I had something huge only to find out a carp was on the end of my line. Thanks for watching!
When I was a kid, my brother and I would catch carp and take them to people in our neighborhood. They would then bury them in their gardens for fertilizer.
Yep a lot of people did that! I've never done it but I've heard of it. Some carp species are invasive
Well done! Carp are always tough customers - smart, wary and very, very strong!
No doubt! They were much more difficult than I thought they would be. Thanks for watching!
Carp seems like a really fun fish to catch on the fly, especially during a big cicada hatch.
They were!! Definitely some of the most fun dry fly fishing I've had in a while
Always glad to see you guys fish together! What a fun day!
Thanks Larry! It was definitely a good time!
back in the early 80's my friend David hooked a giant carp in a spillway pond. The sun went down, the stars came out, the moon came up, a moccasin attacked us. It finally broke off after 2 hours and 45 minutes. The next day we went back and saw it swimming around with the streamer in it's jaw. It looked to be 30#'s or more. David looked at me and said "It didn't even know it was hooked."
4:24 Geez hearing that reel hurts me on a spiritual level
Awesome
Love targeting carp! It can get addicting for sure!
Carp fishing was definitely a good change of pace! I enjoyed it a lot
Well done! Carp are one of my favorite species to target fly fishing! No cicadas in my area, but next brood I'm going to have to travel somewhere they are!
It is well worth it man! I'm not sure when the next one is but I wish you the best of luck!
Anutha great vid man🙂👍 Curious how the water got so stained with no rain er nuthin 🤔...keep em comin tho. Peace ✌ 😎
Hell yeah I’ve been waiting for you to get on this!
I wish I could do it more! It's just such a long drive LOL
One of the best intros you’ve done
Thank you!
Awesome video!
Thank you!
send Cabelas a link. theyd love it
I bet they'd ignore me LOL thanks for watching!
I went on a date with a small carp once. Bit of a tease, kept acting shy.
She was a little koi.
I hate you LOLOL
@@hardmanfishing what a carpy thing to say
👍
Awesome content yet again! Also for what it’s worth, the Broods of cicadas are labeled using Roman numerals. So rather than saying Brood X when you pronounce it, it’s technically supposed to be “Brood Ten”. We have Brood II where I am so I have to wait a bit longer for that hatch! I think it’s 2030.
Yeah I realize that, but people commonly call it "brood X" so that's what I called it. No need to unnecessarily confuse people.. also it really doesn't matter that much at the end of the day. Thanks for watching!
take me big brown fishing!
You didn’t run into any bass on that river ? That surprises me
Yeah I caught a few bass, nothing crazy though
@@hardmanfishingsurprised they didn’t make the vid
Welcome to the pure brute force of cyprinus carpio. There a few fresh water fish with such power (Snakehead, european catfish maybe) but definitely it is a fish on steroid.
I want the fly rod….
