My Mother sang this song to me when I was barely more than a toddler in the mid-1950's and had yet to acquire an ever growing parade of what ended up being 3 younger brothers by mid 1960 and now when I am 70 myself I am sharing that fact with the rest of you Perry Como lovers; just like my Mom was! 🥰
Once during the summer when I was a child I was playing in the yard with my brother. I remember hearing faint music, soft bass coming from my grandmas living room. I recall looking through the window and seeing my grandma and grandpop dancing and twirling around the living room to this song. I’ll never forget it.
I'm 70 yrs old and still remember singing this song when I was not more than 5-6 yrs old. It used to play on the radio..... Such fond memories of my childhood
You are the same age as what my grandmother would have been she passed away when she was 54 of lung cancer, she used to always say this to me when I was a kid "put it in your pocket and save it for a rainy day" but she would give us a coin and told us to keep it and its planted a seed, im now 31 and still researching the things she'd say that I never understood 😂 and came across this song.

I have listened to this song about a 100 times now!!! My grandson is almost 4 and this is his favourite. Thank you Perry for a lifetime of warm and wonderful songs.
At work (I am a caregiver): The small tv was on the fritz- again. My client is completely catatonic (no thanks to dementia). So, to keep them distracted as I changed them, I put my phone in my pocket playing Perry Como. For a brief moment, we made eye contact and they smiled at me. A simple song, and the irony behind “Catch a Falling Star”... 💖 my heart melted. I love my job. 🎵Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket, save it for a rainy day.🎵
Thank you Shaima Hassan. God loves and is working through you. You made me cry...I miss my mom, dad, aunt and husband. We all loved Perry Como and his lovely music. It was a family thing to watch him. I am 69 right now, but still remember him, his music and the joy it put on their faces when they listened to him.

May 2023. I am 65 years old. I just recently sang this song out of the blue to my grandchildren twins of 6 and a little 3 year old. They loved the tune and lyrics so much they sing it regularly I am told by my son. My father used to whistle this tune and sing it. This song just popped into my head and I realized it was my father's way of saying hi to us all.
Same after I heard it on call the midwife series I’m watching. Haven’t heard this in decades, literally decades! I’m 65 and I was probably a child the last time I heard this song from my parents turning on real old stations on the radio!

When I was in the 3rd grade we we taught this song for an Assembly Program in 1958. This song has alway stuck with me since. It brings back Great memories.❤
My dad is his biggest fan. Perry was known as the voice of relaxation. That seems just about right, Perry was brilliant. Me and my 4 sisters were brought up listening to his music and we just love listening to his songs. Dad is 85 next week and still listening to Pery's songs.
Joe Lewis Pierce of Atmore,Alabama was the original writer of the lyrics story below When Joe was 18 years old in 1956, he participated in a song writing contest that he heard about on the radio. He dictated the song lyrics to his mother and she mailed his entry for the contest. The contest administrators responded with a request for money for the official entry. Unfortunately, Joe didn’t have the money for the entry fee. Joe’s cousin, Jim David Montgomery, later heard the song on the radio and recognized it as a song Joe often sang while working. That song was Perry Como’s “Catch A Falling Star” which was recorded and released in late 1957. This song was the first single to receive a Recording Industry Association of America gold record certification on March 14, 1958.
my father passed away in Nov 2023 aged 102 my mother passed away aged 96 , they used to sing it to me as a child, I never heard any one else sing it, Today at my parents house my 3 year old grandson their great grandson started singing it , word perfect, I asked him who taught him it he said he doesn’t know?
Such a perfect voice. Love Perry's laid back style yet totally in control. Simply gorgeous. He appeared on one of the old Doris Day tv shows I was watching. What a treat.
- These songs bring a flow of memories. They make me feel like the years that have passed are still here so I will get a glass of wine, sip, smile and reminisce. Thank you all.
I never had heard this song, as I was born and bred in the former GDR. But the moment I heard it the first time, it became an ear worm. Singing this now with my grandchildren together.
I remember fondly watching Perry Como's television show in latter 1950's and early 1960's. At a time when the "Rock 'n Roll" genre was consuming the Top Hit Parade of song, Perry Como endured! He had great voice (could genuinely sing), and exuded warm personality. "Catch a Falling Star" has always been one of my favorites.
Two little girls Linda Collins and her best friend Theresa Woodcraft would sing this delightful song pretending to be all singing, acting film stars on the stage with Linda's mums gold curtains! 😂 Linda is now 77 years old and typing this, 'Tree' is still out there somewhere, we sadly lost contact, but, you never know?!! 😊 🎶 🎵 🌟 🤩 ❤
I love his voice and music so much. I was a CNA in home care for years. I took care of an elderly quadriplegic woman. Her husband was wealthy and could do private in home care. They had their entire house rigged with a fancy music system and although it was the early 2000’s…. It was filled with music of their era. I remember and have memorized this song and many others as it played daily. They were a sweet couple who did prefer to enjoy the past. I miss them so much. This song was a regular. I definitely wasn’t old school at the time. I was 22 years old. But I learned to adore Perry Como, Dorris day, Sinatra and so many others from this experience. ❤

Just add my little story. My father was a tennis pro and he played tennis with him in the 70’s (?) Not sure of date. Have the picture somewhere! Love this song. Edit: A year later I’m such a twit. It wasn’t Perry Como it was Andy Williams. Sorry! I DO REMEMBER my dad also playing tennis with Robert Redford while he was filming the movie The Way We Were here in our city. I was star struck to say the least. Miss my Dad.
I woke up today thinking about the lyric to this song, I remember hearing it when I younger. Did not realize it was Perry Como. What a blast from the past.
This song reminds me of my late grandmother who sang it with me whenever we listened to it. She was my second mother; my first best friend and she was my everything and listening to it when I miss her, I can feel her singing along with it still.
My dad used to sing this song quite often, at least the chorus. As a little kid, I thought he had made it up. It wasn't til years later when I heard it on one of my parents' Perry Como albums I learned it was a real song. Hearing it again now reminds me of my dad, who passed almost ten years ago and makes me smile.
This song won the very first "Gold Record" award by the RIAA in 1958, my Mom was a Perry Como fan and I inherited her record collection that includes plenty of Perry Como albums (that don't get played )🙄
My primary school in South Africa had this as one of its music class songs we had to memorize. I often reminence those days. My baby brother and I are a year apart and this is a song that connects us.
My uncle send me this song and told me it was one of my grandma`s favorites. Listening to it and my eyes got watery. I miss her so much. She had a beautiful voice
I'm 75. I don't seem to remember radio but my mom had a stack of 78s I use to sing to when she wasn't home. There were also lots of Christmas specials on TV in the 50s. Sooooooo glad I grew up then.
My pops and I used to sing this together when I was a kid. Today is the 11 year anniversary of his passing. I love you pops, and I've missed you every second.🖤
l know how you fell l had lost my mum a month ago she was 92 and l was her care and now soon she will be with the rest of her brother & siters she was the last one out of 7 in her family l just all moste all the time some times l think that l could of done a bit better even though she had been pain for a long while. when l go into her bedroom she is not thier and them thats when l would start crying
For some reason this was one of my favorite songs when I was 4 years old, when it was first released. I was given a copy of the 45 - but I'm not sure I even knew how to operate a record player on my own to be able to play it by myself.
Absolutely one of my favorite male singers ever. I love his songs so much. I really enjoy his Christmas songs. Happy heavenly Birthday to Perry Como! ❤❤🥳🕊️5/18/2023
Perry Como, one of those great pop singers of my parent's generation. Cool in his own way, I could appreciate him as my dad played his records even though I was into the Rolling Stones, Beach Boys, Muddy Waters and doo-wop.
My dad used to always sing this to me and my sister. It gave me goosebumps too while listening to this because he passed away 3 years ago. I miss him very much.
One of those sweet oldies I have always liked to hear, it is different from other songs and has a nice original idea. We cannot catch a falling star really but we can save the good memories, to help us when we are down or in problems.
Me,my 3 sister and our mama used to do this song in 4 part harmony, Acapella... I just sent this to one of my sisters and the earworms are gonna go crazy ! ❤❤❤

Lyrics
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day
For love may come and tap you on the shoulder some starless night
Just in case you feel you want to hold her
You'll have a pocketful of starlight
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day
For love may come and tap you on the shoulder some starless night
And just in case you feel you want to hold her
You'll have a pocketful of starlight
(Pocketful of starlight, hm, hm, hm, hm, hm, hm)
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day
(Save it for a rainy, rainy, rainy, rainy day)
For when your troubles start multiplyin' and they just might
It's easy to forget them without tryin'
With just a pocketful of starlight
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day
Save it for a rainy day

Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day
For love may come and tap you on the shoulder
Some starless night
Just in case you feel you wanna hold her
You'll have a pocket full of starlight
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day
For love may come and tap you on the shoulder
Some starless night
And just in case you feel you wanna hold her
You'll have a pocket full of starlight (pocket full of starlight)
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day
For when your troubles start multiplyin'
They just might
It's easy to forget them without tryin'
With just a pocket full of starlight
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day
(Save it for a rainy day)
Save it for a rainy day

Just add my little story.
My father was a tennis pro and he played tennis with him in the 70’s (?)
Not sure of date. Have the picture somewhere!
Love this song.
Edit: A year later
I’m such a twit. It wasn’t Perry Como it was Andy Williams. Sorry!
I DO REMEMBER my dad also playing tennis with Robert Redford while he was filming the movie The Way We Were here in our city. I was star struck to say the least. Miss my Dad.
How cute. Love this song too. It's amazing and beautiful. I appreciate him!
What part of the World are you listening from?
@@alexfrankie5071 I’m in upstate NY. What part of the world do you hail from? 😊
Note edit to my sieve minded comment. Hahaha
I wish songs had innocent lyrics like this nowadays. He had such a lovely voice.
I woke up today thinking about the lyric to this song, I remember hearing it when I younger. Did not realize it was Perry Como. What a blast from the past.
I’m singing this in my choir I honestly love this song ❤
This song reminds me of my late grandmother who sang it with me whenever we listened to it. She was my second mother; my first best friend and she was my everything and listening to it when I miss her, I can feel her singing along with it still.
I had the good fortune to be born in the Pgh area and had a chance to see "Mr C" and meet in person. Just a genuine good guy.
That great scene from Lost. Omg I miss the show😭
One of the best We ever had/R.I.P. Perry.
This song won the very first "Gold Record" award by the RIAA in 1958, my Mom was a Perry Como fan and I inherited her record collection that includes plenty of Perry Como albums (that don't get played )🙄
Here from Cabinet of Curiosities! Love old music
I have loved this song since childhood.. Perry was the best!
Thanks for sharing this, brought back sweet memories. Great Song, beautiful.

Thinking of my Mom this evening.💜💙💜
RIP Burt Bacharach. I remember this fondly as a 7yrs old .... fond memories too of Ma and Pa listening to it on the wireless.
Remember hearing this on radio back in the 60's mum loved it always used sing it 😪 lovely memory
I love Perry Como
I watched his show every week with my dad and am so moved by the memories of those times.
I was born in 54. My Mom used to put a Perry Como album on a old HiFi to put me to sleep at night...loved it.😊
For some reason this was one of my favorite songs when I was 4 years old, when it was first released. I was given a copy of the 45 - but I'm not sure I even knew how to operate a record player on my own to be able to play it by myself.
No matter how bad life gets always keep your spirits lifted the days are too short for sarrow
spirits = demons
Hello how you doing today 😊
Debbie. You are so right. It is hard at times but we need to make the mot of life as it is so short.
I'm here cause "Everybody's fine" 🤘
Absolutely one of my favorite male singers ever. I love his songs so much. I really enjoy his Christmas songs. Happy heavenly Birthday to Perry Como! ❤❤🥳🕊️5/18/2023
Ahhhh Perry Como was my Dad's favourite too... He would play the 8-track when we would go on a car trip. Great memories
A great track that myself and my Grandfather sing from time to time. A good one for the car travels around England
Perry Como, one of those great pop singers of my parent's generation. Cool in his own way, I could appreciate him as my dad played his records even
though I was into the Rolling Stones, Beach Boys, Muddy Waters and doo-wop.
My dad used to always sing this to me and my sister. It gave me goosebumps too while listening to this because he passed away 3 years ago. I miss him very much.
Mitch Gawlik he was the best of the best
I remember listening to this growing up... among other classics, I miss those "good old days"... even though I am almost 50
We ALL kinda need this song right now.
The first gold record in RIAA history!
My mother used to sing this to me. Sweet memories.
My mom used to sing this to me. To this day, I still put star-shaped beads on my bracelets to count my dreams
I'm 32 lol but this is one lit song. I'm on a Perry Como kick lol thanks to the YT algorithm.
One of those sweet oldies I have always liked to hear, it is different from other songs and has a nice original idea. We cannot catch a falling star really but we can save the good memories, to help us when we are down or in problems.
my dad played this at his funeral two years ago today and he is missed
It's not Christmas without Perry!
Me,my 3 sister and our mama used to do this song in 4 part harmony, Acapella... I just sent this to one of my sisters and the earworms are gonna go crazy ! ❤❤❤
My dear Mam always sang this to me when i was young 💗
