  • In this months video we're power Carving wood in Sam Maloof Guitar Stool. As far as I know Sam Maloof never actually carved a Guitar stool, but if he did, this would be pretty close, so this is in more of the Sam Maloof style.
    You can purchase templates for this stool and build it for yourself from Canadian Woodworks.

    great vid. I thought it might be one of Scott Morrison's Maloof inspired tea chairs - it is very similar. I found it interesting that you thought the festool 150 would be a better sander for this project. I am building a chair like this now, and was considering the 90 like you have instead of the 150 already in my shop!

    Hi, Beautiful work, could you please tell me the name of this Joint?

    • @GopherWoodshop
      @GopherWoodshop  Před rokem

      Hi Jon,
      I just know it as the Sam Maloof joint, but its basically a rabbit cut into the leg and a tongue of the exact same size cut into the chair seat, it's incredibly strong which is what makes it perfect for a chair, then you carve the excess material and smooth it out. 👍

    Stool looks nice but Sam Maloof pieces ALWAYS have screws to support those joints covered with ebony plugs. Watch him at his drill press in his build videos. Your stool may just fall apart over time...

    • @GopherWoodshop
      @GopherWoodshop  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Actually, these joints are so tight, that adding a screw would have zero effect on the strength. The leg would break before the joint. I’ve only seen Maloof add screws through the crest rails.
