"no condiments" means no ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise etc, it doesn't mean no fries. Also, being from Austin Texas, just know that the Salt Lick is not our best BBQ restaurant.
@@christianlong-lo3jm It is unfortunately. Like the SF or Portland of TX - but there are still some normal people in the area.
True but they do have the best pecan pie I have ever eaten. Sorry mom! 😏

You should see Dinner, Drive ins and Dives with Chef Guy Fiery. They even show you how the food is made. My mouth waters everytime I see an episode. I'm hungry now too y'all. Lol
I was eating at a restaurant featured on the show (Gloria’s Cafe in Culver City, CA) at a quieter time of day and this couple burst in with luggage straight from airport. They’d been watching the show on the plane and saw the restaurant and googled and realized how close it was to the airport and instead of stopping at their hotel and dropping off luggage they went straight to the restaurant. They were overwhelmed with the large menu and saw me and went- “ok I know what Guy featured but you don’t look Mexican/ Salvadoran, we’ve never had real versions of either what do you recommend?” They loved the food. I don’t remember what they got just that it was a hilarious moment. I think they got mostly what was on the show. I remember explaining the difference between a wet burrito and a dry one though.
Over 10 years ago my friend from England visited me for a month and in that time experienced so many "firsts" most of which Americans take for granted like PBnJ and meatloaf, chilidog , Mexican food, mountain dew and root beer, drive in restaurant and drive in movie the same night. His mother told him " you know its not going to be like the movies" he told me after. " Its exactly like the moviies" im glad america has something to offer besides Disney
There's never too much food. Whatever you order you can take the rest home for lunch the next day! It works out brilliantly!
Recky, don't worry about Mexican food being too spicy because there are so many dishes you can order, pretty much spiceless, and you get different salsas to try. You can really eat there without burning yourself, the heat is up to you! If you ever get to the States, we'll line up to feed you! Think of the money you'll save!
Exactly! I can never understand people freaking out about large serving sizes we get, acting like you MUST eat every bit of it right there. I love being able to have an extra meal- and with that you can factor in the price of the food is to eat two meals!
Well. I was raised by my father to eat up what i had on my plate. And so was Carol. This is how we were raised. And ill tell ya, no matter how much you cried and begged... EAT up.

Yes! My husband works in a Tex-mex restaurant and they don’t make it spicy unless you ask for it. They can definitely make it spicy but when he brings home food at the end of his shift (chips, salsa, queso, grilled chicken tacos, guacamole, Chile rellano… none of that is spicy.
True Mexican food uses ingredients that Tex Mex doesn’t like tamarind, spicy chiles, etc… but it all good to me. My three year old loves the queso with Serrano chilies.
Carol said "I'd be so big if I lived there," ... Now you have an idea of why obesity is such a "problem" here in the states.. 😂🤣😂🤣
Actually, it's more related to the chemicals "they" put in our food and water. Not to mention lies about foods we should eat (food pyramid, etc.) and when (breakfast isn't necessarily the most important mean of the day). Stick to grass fed/finished meat, pastured pork (not commercial slaughtered ones) fat (yes! Fat is good for you! ), eggs (pastured of course with deep orange yolks) and for heaven's sake, do NOT use seed oils, corn syrup, soy of any kind. Olive oil is fine, as is coconut oil and pastured lard and tallow to cook with. Avoid fast food and you should be feeling better in no time.
Another factor is cheap food like McDonalds is more affordable for people who can't afford better. For them, sometimes making it from pay check to pay check, it's cheaper than the grocery store.
@@dreamweaver8913 But at the cost of their health. They'll be paying huge medical bills in the future.
Chicory root.
Cafe’ Du Monde’ staple with
Beignets. Adds a woody hint to coffee and nutrients!
Bon Appetite’

chicory is a bitter green leafy veggie, its roots are dried and mixed with the coffee. in the old days it was mixed as filler to extend the coffee to serve more ppl. the chicory adds its own unique bitterness to the coffee.
I drink chicory alone-its a healthy substitute for coffee. Doesn't taste like coffee, but I can drink it😉
Having lived in New Orleans, I have had many a cup of chicory coffee; from the wonderful coffee at Cafe Du Monde (half coffee and half boiling hot milk) to plain chicory coffee brewed so strong that it is as black as midnight (disgusting, no matter how much milk you add when it looks GRAY).
@@janetsmiley6778 hubby & I made a trip to the Gulf Coast. Going to Cafe du Monde was the ONLY place I wanted to visit in New Orleans. I was not disappointed ☺️ Best coffee ever!
"Chicory coffee is made by roasting, grinding, and brewing the roots of the chicory plant. It tastes similar to coffee, featuring a flavor that's often described as slightly earthy and nutty. It's used either on its own or mixed with coffee to complement its flavor."
people with tree nut allergies are also commonly sensitive to asteraceae/compositae family, which include ragweed, daisies, marigolds, chrysanthemums, and CHICORY. so be careful recky.... also, chicory coffee tastes like mud to me. lol.
Someone said it during the livestream yesterday -- we need a gofundme to get y'all here for a few weeks next year. You have to come to Charleston, though! The food here is incredible!

"They do not do anything half-way..." Best line in the whole thing! 🤣
El Charro is located in Tucson. It’s the oldest still operating restaurant in Tucson. It opened in 1922. They dry their beef for carne asada on their roof, just like they did in 1922. They have special permission from the Health Dept. to do this.

Stone crab is superior imo to any other. Very sweet, delicious and rich! In addition, they preserve the crab by only clipping on claw and throwing the live crab back into the water.. thus, the crab lives to regenerate the claw! Love you guys!! xo
Chicory is a plant with edible salad leaves. During coffee bean shortages, they would ground up the roots of the plant and use it as a coffee substitute or they would blend the roots with real coffee to make it go further. In any case, the fiber in the root breaks down quickly (too quick) and is well know to cause bad gas. It is very cheap and makes horrible coffee.
I think that Terry Black's should have been the Texas vote!
Also, I used to work at a cocktail lounge at a Holiday Inn and we had a taco bar every Monday through friday for happy hour. Happy hour lasted 3 hours! 😅 it was free as long as you bought at least 1 drink. All you could eat and you made your own so you could make them as meaty as you liked😁
When we go out to eat usually we have to ask for a take out box because you can't eat it all. So we take it home and eat the rest later.
Just to tease you a little; we live 45 minutes away from Salt Lick in Texas! We go there for our birthdays and anniversary! If you ever come to Texas, we’ll take you there 😊 love from a Texas Dane! ❤️
I live in North Carolina & I've eaten at NC's favorite restaurant was Lexington's BBQ. We would stop everytime we traveled to Gatlinburg Tennessee to stay in a Chalet on the mountain side. It was so good I still miss it, it's about 4+ hours away from me but we all cleaned our plates the FOOD WAS SO AWESOME & the Desserts were FANTASTIC also. We didn't have left overs but we all bought extra food to take for the rest of the trip it was so good. Then of course we couldn't wait to stop there on the way home & pack their extra BBQ in our cooler to take home & we got sad eating the last of the BBQ & all got happy knowing we would be going to LEXINGTON BBQ in Lexington North Carolina-THE BEST BBQ I'VE EVER HAD!
Having traveled all over america, I can tell you that some of the best places to eat are what we call the mom and pop restaurants, places you will never hear about unless you ask locals. Or you can tell by how crowded it is, 1: it is crowded at normal eating hours say lunch or dinner its good. 2: If it's busy at off hours ( say 10-11am or like 2-4 pm) it's amazing.
To answer your question, What is chickory. It is a root that is ground up and added to coffee to add extra flavor.
Please come here. Many of us would welcome you .
Chicory is a plant. leaf that is dried and ground that takes away bitterness of coffee.
For Florida Joe's Crab Shack does NOT kill the crabs. As they catch the crabs they remove "1" claw and return the crab back to the Ocean so they retain a claw that allows them to defend themselves. This maintains the populatin and supply of crab as the missing claw "Grows Back".
No Recky is talking about sides( side items) where condiments are the sauces & etc... added items u can get to go on the burger like mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, salsa, hot sauce, etc... those are condiments. That original burger restaurant has invented the burger on regular white bread, so they still make the burgers the original way before the burger bun was invented.
💜😍😻🙏
Salt, pepper, spices, Catsup/Ketchup, mustard, Mayonnaise, sauces are condiments. Fries are a "side" (side dish/order besides the main dish/order)
Recky,
make sure Carol doesn't watch Southern foods you need to try before you die. or you both will be booking a plane flight to the US for a new show called "Recky and Carol's not a food tour show." lol
Despite my decades in Minnesota, 'Juicy Lucy' wasn't ringing a bell. Learned from Google it originated at a place walking distance from where I grew up in the Minneapolis area. Who knew! We frequently bbq'd burgers with cheese inside (had a gadget that helped make burgers from two patties, with added ingredients). I'm not one who eats out but the US certainly doesn't lack for variety...or quantity when it comes to serving sizes. Portions, whether eating out or at home, were more sensible decades ago (and we were much more slender as a result).
Carol looks so pretty on this one, you go girrrrl !!!!

Since Recky likes peanut butter, he should try one of the local burgers here that is called the Goober-Burger (yep a burger with peanut butter applied).
A Skyline 5 way starts off with spaghetti, chili, beans, onions, and then finishes off with cheese. Then your choice of sauces.
You can replace the spaghetti with a coney dog, add mustard, then the chili etc. Eliminate the beans, eliminates a lot of mess on a chili cheese coney.
The look of pure hunger on your faces gives me a bad case of LOL.
They could have gone with Huber's Cafe for Oregon (or a dozen other places). Amazing location, been around since 1879, has the best Spanish Coffee you will ever drink and it's like being in a different era altogether. Try the turkey, cream cheese and cranberry sandwich if it's on offer.
Chicory enhances coffee taste and aroma by imparting a slightly woody and nutty taste to the coffee.
Native to Africa, Asia, and Europe and brought to the U.S. in the 18th century, chicory (AKA chicory coffee or New Orleans coffee) is a naturally caffeine-free root that's roasted and cut up into a form that's popularly used as a coffee substitute or addition. With a dark, slightly sweet, and rich flavor similar to roasted coffee sans caffeine, it's a great option for those who are sensitive to the buzz of java.
The chicory-infused coffee sold at New Orleans staple Café du Monde - often served with steamed milk and made to enjoy alongside fried beignets - boosted the reputation of chicory coffee across America. Today, most locally-owned New Orleans coffee shops mix their beverages with about 70 percent coffee and 30 percent chicory root.
In addition to its lower caffeine content and great taste, chicory has a high amount of inulin. This prebiotic soluble carbohydrate might help improve gut health, reduce cholesterol, and control blood sugar.
You all are so awesome~!!!! Appreciate the video! Thanks for making me hungry!
Chicory (a weed native to France and Northwest Africa) coffee grew in popularity in 19th century New Orleans during the Civil War when a Union naval blockade cut access to the ports, causing a coffee shortage. Since then, New Orleans has capitalized on its love of ground roasted chicory root coffee.

Chicory (Cichorium intybus) is an herb native to Europe and Asia. It's also grown in the United States. Chicory root contains inulin, a starchy substance. Chicory root has a mild laxative effect and decreases swelling. Chicory is also a rich source of beta-carotene.
The best part about going to a restaurant is if the serve big portions you can eat it for several meals

Chickory coffee was invented during the American Civil War when the Southern troops ran out of coffee. And they could not get more because Northern Army cut off supplies to the south. Chicory was used as a substitute for coffee.

Even though I live in the US with all this wonderful food, I rarely go to these restaurants, although I would love too, but as Carol said…I would be huge. So everything in moderation, but it is great that we have these this great foods if we want them. 😊.
I don't really enjoy myself at a restaurant. I think I have a small stomach, because I'm such a nibbler. The people I'm with always have to sit there and wait because they've all cleaned their plates while I'm only kind-of approaching the halfway point of mine. Long ago I learned how to make food I really enjoyed, and how to make it in small enough quantities to suit both my appetite and the storage space available for leftovers. There isn't much a restaurant can do to beat what I can whup up at home -- or even in the kitchenette at work -- so why go out?!

Chicory is a flower used as a filler in coffee during the depression to make your coffee stretch further. It's not used much now because it's said to taste bitter but some people have acquired a taste for it. You can grow it in your garden and the plant it with wild flowers along side our roadways. The flower is a periwinkle blue color which is my favorite color.

No you normally don't get fries with a burger. Only if you get a combo, that normally includes fries burger and a drink. Condiments are the stuff that you put on a burger. You can get a burger plain then add the condiments, except for a cheeseburger, the chersr has to be melted when its cooked.
