Tarrare is harder to explain because of his apparent crazy anatomy. This guy sounds as though he has an extreme case of hyperthyroidism.
My dad had hyperthyroidism when I was a kid and he had to eat SO MUCH just to feel full, and he was still losing weight at the same time! He had to get the thyroid irradiated: basically, given radioactive iodine (iodine is only processed in the thyroid, in the body) to kill the thyroid. He now takes full replacement thyroid medication. This guy didn't have that kind of thing as an option, so he just suffered with the hunger.... maybe...
My aunt has it too and she can eat an entire herd of livestock without gaining one gramm of weight. Which would explain his good physical shape, considering how much he ate.

Inversely if you have hypothyroidism and problems associated with it, like cushings, it’s near impossible to lose weight no matter how little you eat. Another reason you shouldn’t judge others based on appearances both ways.
I’m glad your dad got help! I hope he’s doing well. I’m getting checked for cushings after a 50lb weight gain out of nowhere that won’t go away, even though I’m active and hardly eat anything. Hopefully I won’t need surgery on my pituitary gland. It’s scary to get treatment when it’s invasive… but even scarier to go undiagnosed and untreated for so long.
@@ORLY911 Basically, yes! It burns them so fast you basically don't even get the benefit of the calories, which is why people with hyperthyroidism wind up eating so much: their body is attempting to keep up with demand and can't.
@@MermaidMakes Exactly. I've got other family members that have hypothyroidism -- my sister, for example -- so I've witnessed that too. My mom and I both have basically "borderline hypothyroidism," where on paper we "don't have it" but we have a bunch of the symptoms of it because our thyroid numbers are at the bottom of the "normal range."

i knew a kid in grade school who suffered with a hunger issue. it affected to the point where he would eat rocks and dirt just to feel full. i would tell my mom how hungry he was and she'd make me and extra lunch to give him. he was a miserable kid and often cried while eating. it wasnt his metabolism since he was quite chunky . i hope he is okay

I think I've heard of some disorder that makes you feel hungry all the time. This guy probably had that combined with a very fast metabolism.

I never feel full, In fact the more I eat the more hungry I feel to the point it hurts, I also sweat heaps in my sleep. Have no muscle mass and have never been over 76kg and I'm 6'1.
I just eat when I feel like I have to now.

There are several deseases that cause you to have the sensation of literaly starving to death that is hard to get rid of. It's rare but I've cared for an individual with something simular, compost wasn't even safe they would sneak out and dig it up.

Being very hungry myself I appreciate stories about other very hungry guys because their sad lives ruined by insatiable hunger at least let me feel part of something
I’ve tried very hard to discipline my hunger with fasting and starvation, I used to fear making my parents go bankrupt especially my mother when they separated and I’d have uncontrollable rage for food then try to kill myself by eating bottles of pills or just punch my face. I managed to dislocate my jaw around age 14 so I wouldn’t chew as well and it hasn’t been fixed still and it’s still somewhat difficult to chew so it has reduced the problem but I also hurt my extended family by eating more than my share when my mother moved and we needed shelter. I went to jail and an asylum and managed to not eat for a while hoping to die of starvation in solitary but ended up getting multiple trays leftovers and hustling for cafeteria food and delivered pizzas in the asylum basically whatever I could get I ate
When I got out the government gave me benefits and most of it was spent on food, there was a Chinese buffet down the road i went to as often as I could and they were very polite, I was rude once trying to leave with an open beer and still feel bad for that because during Covid they shut the place down and no one but a few people went to their delivery hut outside because it was Chinese food and they were afraid
I’ve done a parasite cleanse and it helped somewhat, I ordered a large meat pizza fries and soda for dinner a month ago and had a few slices left which was a good feeling. I ended up eating them the next day so it’s progress
Also very glad I quit smoking weed because I’d eat everything including food in trash stale stuff moldy stuff etc and leaves and would have temporary pica, sandstone rocks, quartz pieces etc that’s where it became weird and dangerous

Could have been a thyroid issue combined with metabolism and some kind of missing hormone in the brain. I think I read somewhere that occasionally damage to a certain part of the brain can screw with the body's ability to tell when it's hungry/full/etc

Interesting, but I wouldn't say there were no cases of extreme hunger other than these two - you mentioned polyphagia, which tends to be associated with the Prader-Willi syndrome. It's just that most people, even with that syndrome, don't have a lightning-fast metabolism and end up obese (or they die, I guess). It's possible that those two had this syndrome plus a very fast metabolism.
