I started looking at the specs and dimensions, because I have had old pre-LED Maglites and wanted a reference. Then I noticed the tube diameters specified are slightly smaller on the LED versions of C/D cell lights and I got suspicious, then I found some reviews that confirmed thee metal is substantially thinner and so much so that even the screw threads had to be reduced and occasionally the tube can flex enough to pop the back cap loose.
These products are not even close to the same product that originally made MagLite popular.
Now I'm sad as there aren't any good alternatives. Every flashlight maker seems to be catering to 11 year old boys with ridiculous transformer "tactical" styling and "features" like strobe; packs in a car load of AA cells rather than C/D cells or uses some strange cell size and makes the handle shorter than my hand (I'm cool with lithiums but pick the right size for the purpose.); and of course "ultra mega bright!" so the power drain is quick and your night vision gets destroyed.

I'm also disappointed with a lack of good alternatives, I'd like to find a good 2-C cell flashlight and I can't. I was considering this Maglite but its donut irregular dark spot in all but the most focused mode looks ugly and is putting me off. Also, why wouldn't they implement a way of choosing the desired light level without having to click through a dozen of modes and having to be irritated by the never needed strobe mode?
There are loads of flashlights made today but I too noticed the weird battery sizes - 3xAAA, 4xAAA, 6xAA and an infamous winner was 9xAA - that's crazy! Or rechargeable batteries. I want regular batteries because I'm not a heavy flashlight user to justify the additional cost and with infrequent use there's no environmental waste advantage to using rechargeables. I just need a simple and reliable light lying around and ready to use whenever I need.
So far I have a few 2xAA flashlights and this is my preferred size and power source for most use but I'm still after a more powerful light in a 2xC size.

      @@michaellemon8287 I bought the 3c mag mL50L and a colored 2AA led minimag.
They are not poor physical quality, but I don't abuse my tools so the edge cases are not tested. But I find the brightness selections totally bass ackwards and irritating as can be. Just terrible product design steered by a marketing department rather than real world use testing.
Even on the colored 2AAs which are specifically targeted to preserving night vision. 1: even the low setting is way too bright to preserve night vision. 2: they start on high.( My intent was to read navigation charts at night while looking for distant navigation beacons, terrain, and obstacles. Often only one hand free. )
The 3c ML50 always comes on full bright, which I rarely use, and then if you miss your setting with the Frantic-Click™ BS you need to start over from off, you can't just hit the button again for the next higher brightness. (An untimed mode select with a long hold for off would be way better)
The 2AA has a similar issue because 2 of the 4 settings are useless flashing modes for marketing to children. So best to go full off, wait a second, and start over.
Also the battery tube on the 2AA is a tight fit for some high capacity rechargeable cells that are at the large side of the AA standard, I've had them get stuck enough they wouldn't keep good electrical contact. High cap cells aren't at all needed but its another in the list of overlooked design issues that wouldn't have cost anything more than a few minutes of consideration to get right.

I have the ML50L 3C CELL FLASHLIGHT. it has been a good light but it now will come on for about 4 seconds then go off. Do you happen to know why? Good video.

That thing is pretty bright enough with the big deep reflector not as big then 2d maglite but notenough to get the distance though cause of the design reflector isn't good enough to surpass distance then coast led lenser.
    maglite are great

Mag lite and a lot of others have strobe or sos. Please we don’t need all those extra modes. Give us one or a low and hi only. I have a Klein rechargeable with high and low only with a laser. It’s great for walking my dog at night together with his lighted lease.
