Film Photography at Golden Hour | Olympus Pen EE2 + Kodak Gold 200

  • Some film photography at golden hour. All photos shot on the Olympus Pen EE2 which is a 35mm half-frame camera using Kodak Gold 200. One of my favorite camera and film combinations, and works surprisingly well at sunrise and sunset. Kodak Portra 400 is a great film stock for these conditions, but sometimes a cheaper film like Kodak Gold 200 does the job just as well. Plenty more Melbourne photography videos coming soon, so stay tuned for those. Filmed on the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k (bmpcc 4k).

    • @bendroege
      @bendroege  Před 3 lety

      Hey thanks so much Kieran! Was so great getting outside and making images, been such a long time haha. Ah the reason for that is because it’s a half frame camera, it’s natural orientation on the negative and viewfinder is in portrait, so I tend to just shoot it like that as it feels more true to the camera if that makes sense haha. Thanks for the comment man, have a great weekend!

    Interesting camera, I was browsing ebay recently as I have a small collection of old film cameras and there's still some real bargains to be had. The film however I see has got much more expensive than the last time I bought any (about 2-3 years ago) I thought the colour tones were great for shots that you took with it, did you do much in post or is that how it came out on the negatives? The mic was a bit quiet but I'm sure you know that.

    • @bendroege
      @bendroege  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks so much Rob! Absolutely, there’s still a lot of great cameras that are very affordable, just have to find the right deal. Haha yeah unfortunately the prices are going up again which is so annoying, but I guess that’s inevitable. Ah cheers, I normally do a fair bit of post production, but this time all I did was drop the contrast and it was looking good. I think because it was sunset, the colours were already looking good. Ah yeah the mic was a shot gun mic haha which definitely wasn’t ideal, but I just bought some LAVs so next time it will be much better. Thanks for much for your support Rob, it’s always super appreciated. Cheers!

      @bendroege  Před 2 lety

      Hey Vy! That’s interesting as mine does go up to 400...but nevertheless if yours only goes to 200 then that’s fine as it will be +1 over exposed which is ideal for that stock anyways. With that said I wouldnt use a stock that has ISO 800 or more though

    • @bendroege
      @bendroege  Před 3 lety

      Hey Bea! That's awesome, honestly with a camera as unique as this one it's all really about experimentation. I tend to just use cheaper film like kodak gold as sometimes the photos can be a bit hit and miss due to it having such a small lens and sensor. Black and white is also very very cool, and something I want to try more of in the future to. So I guess just try whatever you can get your hands on and you can't go wrong :)
