IRON Series 30 Min Complete Upper Body Workout | 17

  • A complete upper body muscle building workout in 30 minutes! And this is far from rising through the reps… the slower the better. Rep ranges will be anywhere between 8-15 approximately per set depending on the weight you are using and also how you like to train.
    Shoulders, back and chest are the muscle groups under load with the triceps also challenged throughout today!
    The dumbbells I am using for your reference are 2 x 20kg, 2 x 10kg and 2 x 4kg.
    Aside from dumbbells you will need your mat and for dips either a chair or dip bars!
    Alternatively for the dips, you can change it up! Here are some alternatives for the dips if you prefer a different way of hitting those triceps!

    SKULLCRUSHERS
    Absolutely change as you prefer! Simply select an exercise and perform that as YOUR staple every time you see me doing the my staple of dips on the bars!
    The timer will be on primarily for 60 seconds, with always 30 seconds rest inbetween each set!
    However the staple will be performed for only 30 seconds each time it pops up!

    This finisher is SLOW… but will become increasingly challenging to control particularly the eccentric phase, the lowering.
    Please take your time, especially if new to this movement. NO JERKING or SHARP movement and the smoother the better.

      Hi @@matthewalmond8274 12.5kg x 2 would be my next goal! I tried 10kg x 2 for the first time for IRON day 12 and was already over the moon proud of it (I started with water bottles in EPIC III)
      And now Caroline is upping her game again 😆 Love having super hard goals to work towards to. So proud of Caroline and so proud to be training & progressive overloading with Caroline and everyone here ❤️ Have a great day to you too!!

      I always wonder what's the limit of Caroline's strenght. I guess she can bench her own bodyweight or even more (for 1 max bench press). In Belgium there's a TV game called the Container Cup where athletes of all kind of sports challenge in 7 disciplines. One of these is a max bench press. Few female athletes get over 40 kg.

But that post was written 5 months ago I wouldn't be too surprised if she can bench press her own bodyweight now 😎 She is really amazing and inspiring!

    Wow!!!! Thank you Caroline & this entire community. ♥️ I have been doing these videos for years & got in the best shape of my life until I got shingles for my 31st bday. I gained so much weight & got really depressed. I finally am getting back to it, slowly but surely. Started this series in February… got off track, kept working out here & there but not this program… & back on. It’s now June. Just finished day 17 & it made me want to throw up! I am so much stronger than I realized! Down 14 lbs since February & lost 2 inches around my waist & bum & an inch off each arm & thigh! I am going to be even stronger than ever after this with what I’ve been through & with all of your help! 🙏🏽 Thank you for bringing me peace & health & helping me get my life back!     The thing I loved about this one is that I was able to chest press much heavier weights than I thought I would. I underestimated how much strength I have gained by working with Caroline. Funny thing is it was the exercises with the lightest weights that I struggled with the most today. Thanks Caroline, that was awesome.

    I love Caroline's videos so much. I love that she is totally ripped, but you still see her struggling and smiling toward the camera like "I know, this hurts!!" I love her positivity and realness, and her videos always give me such a good burn. I've been doing them for about 2 months, and I feel like I'm starting to see my muscles pop out for the first time!     I've done this series three times through and I want to say this is likely the most thorough upper body workout in the series that is challenging, but also makes me feel like I was consistently hitting muscle groups effectively. Love this and it's going on my list of favorites 😀

    Yesterday I did the first HIIT I've done in a month and I noticed that I had so much more energy! Usually I feel wiped out after HIIT, but yesterday I felt like I had a lot more fuel in the tank. I think it's the muscle that I gained from doing your Iron Program! It's made me noticeably stronger and leaner. I can't thank you enough for everything you do for us, Caroline!       I actually feel the same! In the past weeks, I only sometimes did a 10 or 20 min hiit session because I felt this was a better length for me - I was a bit discouraged from 30(!)min hiit sessions, which often left me feeling completely exhausted for the entire day.
      Now recently, I've completed a 30 min tabata hiit by Caroline and I felt strong!
      And even better, I also did an emom hiit of another channel which I've never been able to complete in time before - but now, I managed to do it and felt great!!
      It's amazing again and again how much stronger we get with these workouts!:))

    Beautiful workout! I was able to move up to 20lbs on the landmine and 15 lbs on the first three exercises, 12 for Arnold and 8 for the last 3. I'm so happy with my continued progress. I look forward to each workout and am grateful for my 66 yo body that continues to deliver as well as CG for all her epic contributions to athletes of every age, size, and ability worldwide!!!

Let’s go fellow Girvanators🙌🏼👊🏼💪🏼 and thank you Caroline for addressing a question I never asked: there isn’t enough room in the bar of the dumbbell to place both hands comfortably whilst doing pullovers. You addressed it perfectly in the tip of this workout. 😘

      Caroline's tips increase the effectiveness of the workouts making us think further about our pose and format rather than going from one set to another without further thoughts. The add-on is a great way to end an upper body workout if you have time, enjoy your workout!

      Hi, Connie: So true about the short bar. I have small hands and yet cannot place them side by side comfortably. For some exercises, I will use a KB instead because the ergonomics just work better for me to avoid scrunched up hands!

    Doing IRON for the second time. Love the 30 minutes workout as it is just enough for me to stay motivated. Can't believe the weight you lift as I usually do the same but in lbs. So if you use 10 kg. I use 10 lbs. I am 60 so I guess it will take me longer to build up my strength. Would love a video on how to work up to doing a proper push-up as I can't seem to master it, not sure if my core or triceps are what is the weakest :) Love your channel!!

    Morning everyone! 😊 This is a complete upper body workout and here I thought we won't be doing any partials after Sunday's workout 😆 Caroline always brings up the unexpected 😍 Excited for the new exercise Lateral the Frontal arc, sounds like a real burner ❤️‍🔥I was surprised not seeing any pushups however the add on didn't let me down! I hope you all have a wonderful workout 💪

I love doing those lateral to front raises...they work such a wide range of muscles! And yes...so very true...if we were missing our push ups then the add on was just perfect! I loved it!       Morning Kyle...you are so fit and strong, Kyle, and I’m sure you’ll smash thus as you smash the workouts every single day! I’ve just finished with my mix of 12.5, 8 and 6 kg as those are the weights I have! Certainly challenging...especially the moves at the end with 6 kg!       @@matthewalmond8274 Honestly, you give me so much praise but it's You I find incredible, upping the weights in this workout was daunting because of how quickly my shoulder strength seems to fade. In addition to that hard workout you even managed the add-on! 🔥🔥🔥 Well done!! I'm glad we both really enjoyed this one!     Caroline: I'm 60. Iron has forced me to get back on the horse after figuring out how to work this great program around my daily schedule. I have to say that since doing this, it has made more determined to see this program through with no excuses! More importantly it gives me the determination I need to make it through the day and when it gets tough, you're always there with your radiant smile!
    I may even do a second round. Thanks for your inspiration.

    This workout will be rather tough for me since it's upper body. I will do the very best I can with the weights that I have. Even though the workouts are 30 minutes you pack a lot in to 30 minutes, Caroline. The way you choreograph the workouts has a lot to do with it. You're the best and thank you as always for providing challenging workouts.

Things have been so hectic here with just putting the house up for sale dealing with all the issues around that I haven't been able to go out and check out any weights. But I definitely do think that I could use some heavier weights for certain workouts. I will be doing the workout in about a half an hour or so. Have a great day!

    Day 17 completed! Even the cool down was trying on my arms! I needed to feel the burn 🔥 I nearly gave up doing anything today cos my bed was cozy and warm, but NO! Caroline was waiting for me, so needs must! I used 15, 10, 8 and 3kg for today's workout. Still working on being able to lift my whole body weight, I'm getting there. Roll on Day 18! 💪🏾 ❤️

    I did two of each staple variation and then an extra set of my least favorite for the last one (tricep push up duh). I love working chest! It’s been my experience that a lot of women rarely work chest but it’s such an important foundation for everything else. I LOVE this series and the opportunity to lift heavier! I’ve been jumping rope during the intro this series and sometimes I’ll stop throughout and get a minute or two of jump rope in. It really torches the calories and I’ve seen a change in my endurance and overall fitness. Just thought I’d share!

      They sure are Peach. No way can I lift 20kg over my head. Managing just about with 12.5kg. fair play to Caroline she makes it look effortless 🥵🥵 super format on this. Changed between triceps press and dips alternatively. Loved the finisher. Arms were dead weight by then. Add on done too. That was so tough after main sess. A million press ups but got it done!!. Well done today.

    Proud of myself! Today, I used 35lbs, 15lbs, and 8lbs for this workout! I did triceps pushups for the staple and did lat pulldowns on the machine I have instead of pullovers. What a workout!! I keep coming back to this one - it's one of my absolute favorites!

    I don’t know how she is able to chest press/bench press 44lbs! Well actually I do know how: with hard work and perseverance. I was struggling with my 35 lbs. But it was a step up from the 33lbs I had been using before, so I’ve improved *slightly* even though I could barely get them up in the last few seconds of the timer 🥵 I was able to do everything else with 45lbs (when Caroline used her 20 kg that is!). And I was surprised I was able to do the dips really well…of course I was doing dips on the chair and not dip bars. Those dip bars look extremely tough! Great workout and now on to the 15 minute arms add-on. I took a long rest to write this so hopefully my arms are rested enough to complete it!

    For this workout, I had all my DBs out for upper body scattered on the floor. 30s to 5s. Even my humble 5s got to ‘play’ today (for those lateral to frontal arcs, and then had to get them for half way through the Around the Worlds). I really enjoyed those arcs and worlds moving super slow to get the most out of the 5s. Decided to do tricep presses instead of dips. I really like that 15 minute add-on with the alternating pushups and planks, reminded me a lot of a power yoga class. Those skullcrusher pushups used to be impossible at one time. I can do them now but with a slightly different hand position than Caroline which works better for me. Great training today!

    I love upper body workouts! And in iron series I try to lift heavier than before, I don’t know why but in this series somehow it became possible to add weights progressively and it feels amazing! Thank you Caroline for making this transition possible❤️

      I agree Jenny! The fact there is a staple reoccurring really does becoming increasingly challenging! And yes those wide range arcs were very difficult to perform with the height parallel to floor and that slower pace!

I think we will be sore across the shoulders tomorrow 🙄 I was going to go 5 kg as my light weight but arms wouldn't work so dropped to 4 and could just about manage!! Was a great one though. Went on to do add on too. All push ups of every sort and planks ..that finished me 🥵🥵

    Wow - this workout really boosts my arms! They look immediately stronger after these exercises. 😅 even with my 15/10/5 KGs. And again, I prefer your workouts because of your high security level, the very good explanation of how to do the moves, your relaxed power style, the brutal weight levels (20KG you don‘t find in male muscle machine videos 😉) and the perfect composition of the workouts and workout plans!     Another one which flew by quickly. Really enjoying using my stepper as bench for chest press. That extra few inch range intensifies it even more. Love an all round upper body. Decided to do skull crushers as my staple because dips feel uncomfortable for me, feel it more in my front delts. Was happy with my performance in those now that I've mastered them.     This looks like a very intense upper body session! I’m sure those dips as staple are going to be very challenging by the end...and Round the Worlds as finisher...that’s always a tough one too...works many different muscles! Our upper bodies will work hard...but at least our glutes and hamstrings are getting a rest before more hip thrusts tomorrow! Have fun everyone! Matthew

    So nice to be back! After a bout with COVID at the end of March I needed to get my energy up and catch up! LOVE the Iron Series, Caroline has done it again. These workouts are amazing. We are a strong bunch💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾. Caroline is lifting 20kg and 30kg weights and we are lifting heavy and focusing on form. Used 2x11kg, 15lbs and 10lbs and combined today’s upper-body with Sunday’s shoulder workout and it was🔥🔥in a great way. Loving this series and good to be back!

    Really looking forward to this one after work! I think for my staple I'll alternate between dips and tricep press! Do love a tricep press!
    Yesterday's session was brilliant I enjoyed every second! Definitely added it to my favourites! The 5 minute add on was great just to finish those legs off! Was amazing to see how it all started too as haven't revisited any of the older workouts for a long time! Great to see how far you have come Caroline!     Been doing your workouts for over a year and I have to say this was one of my favorites. Loved the pace and variation.

    I loved this workout. The weights get lighter as you go, but not any easier...classic CG. I especially liked the permission she gave to pick your own tricep variation staple, but her firm guidance to stick with the one you pick for the whole workout. I picked tricep pushups and worried I'd be regretting it after the first set, but then surprised myself by being able to concentrate and complete the full "only 30 seconds" each time. I got into a zone for sure. She knew. :)
