  • In this No Mod No Glitch Step-by-step build tutorial, I will show you how to build the Starlight Apartments located at the Starlight Drive-in!
    For this build, I used items from the Far Harbor, Wasteland Workshop and Contraptions Workshop DLCs.
    This tutorial was made on the PC using the Fallout 4 Next Gen Update (Ver. 1.10.984.0).
    For building, I use an Xbox controller.
    I also have a No Mod No Glitch step-by-step renovation of Coastal Cottage

    and a No Mod No Glitch repair of the Castle walls

    bro I've always wanted to build apartments up against the drive in screen and I never thought to do it on the backside of it. This is so good!

    • @cryingcube2
      @cryingcube2  Před měsícem +4

      I have tried many, many times to do something with the front side of the screen but was never able to do anything with it. The backside worked because it is fairly flat and doesn't cause collision issues. The existing structure below the apartments could be used for additional living space too. Thank you - glad you like it!

      @@cryingcube2 I wanted a guard house there, with guards on top, and bunks in the room, but the guards all stand on the restrooms on the front of the pavement. I have a stupid set of npcs.

      The NPCs are known to have pathing issues in this game and they might not be able to walk in the storage room by the street? However, I like your design idea for that area!

  • @Arasteele
    @Arasteele Před 16 dny

    Nice build idea. Well done. I've built on the front of the screen on the past, never thought to build apartments on the back side. On the front, in a recent playthrough, I used scaffolding but instead of building up I used rows of train car pieces to make the apartments, all with those train car sliding doors, and walkways in between. Ended up looking like a cool junky "city" of multi-leveled train cars. Hard to build up on that side because of the curve and the wrecked bits sticking out.
    In another playthrough from years back I actually built myself a player mansion right on top of the screen. Fun build, but in the end it would have probably gotten blown off in a high wind. lol
    For the existing rooms on the back side I've often just stuck the generator into the long storage room. Now I think it would serve nicely to power the apartments as well.

    • @cryingcube2
      @cryingcube2  Před 16 dny

      Thank you and thanks for sharing your ideas - I love your ideas for the screen side! The train car idea is particularly relevant to Starlight because of the rail tracks that run nearby. I never thought about a player home on the top of the screen but that is a good idea - I don't know if the NPCs can path to the top of the screen so you would have the place all to yourself. I got frustrated with the screen side because of the curve and all of the bent metal that caused collision issues so that is why I tried the other side. With this character, I made the existing center room into a manager office/apartment and the side room into a bathroom, but I like the idea of using it for a mechanical room too.

      Thank you! The build order to get everything to snap together is frustrating in this game - glad that tip helped. I agree with you on the window options with the warehouse set - as an alternative you could also use the 1/2 barn or warehouse wall on the bottom with the 1/2 greenhouse glass wall on the top.

    Have just build a giant glass mega-structure on the other-side but was forced to build a wee alley way against the front. Was worried building so close to boundary but looks fantastic and has definitely inspired me to use more barn tiles in my builds.

      Oh wow! Thank you, glad this worked for your settlement. To be honest, I don't like the red color of the barn tiles (a more neutral brown color would work better IMO) but they work well for some builds. This whole structure could be built with the warehouse instead of the barn tiles but it looks better with the barn tiles.

    An original use of an area that is awesome often overlooked, a building style that seems to mostly fit in with the setting... Very well done. The only suggestion that I would make, in order to better blend in with the Commonwealth, would be to try alternating different walls & fences

    • @cryingcube2
      @cryingcube2  Před měsícem

      Thank you! Great suggestion too - it would be easy enough to swap out some of the solid barn walls with wall with holes or even add some warehouse walls. There is a variety of railings that could be used instead using the same railing. That would give it a scrappier Commonwealth look.

      Thank you! I've tried numerous times to build something similar to what I built on the back, but the front side of the screen is curved and uneven which causes collision issues in a vanilla build. However - I have been studying the front side to see if there is something else that I can do with it. Not sure at this point what to do - but I would like to do something with that huge eyesore.

    This is an excellent build. I tried to build apartments using both wood pieces on one set, and railway cars for another. In sanctuary, the npcs walk in the apts no problem. In Starlight, for some odd reason, the npcs refuse to walk through doors to get to their assigned beds/rooms. They get stuck on the side of the door or stand in the rain like drenched monkeys. I've had to remove walls for them to go inside, then put them back with the door. Odd. I made walking roofs so they can climb up and see fireworks. instead, they sit by the drive in.

      @cryingcube2  Před měsícem +1

      Thank you! The use of railway cars is very interesting for an apartment build. Pathing has always been a problem in this game. I was really hoping that the next gen update would fix some of the pathing issues so that the settlers' movements would be more realistic.

      I like the idea of wrapping it around the screen! That sounds very practical! For the size of Starlight it does have a very small build limit. I think the Skooled Zone has a good video on how to increase the build limit-but use with caution-if you extend it too much it can crash the game.
