  • This is my second field of first cutting for the 2020 hay season. This is the second year for this orchard/timothy/alfalfa mix. Had an awesome yield of 500 bales on 4 acres.
I used my John Deere 5300 tractor, Vermeer WR20 V-Rake & New Holland 326 Square Baler in this video.
The majority of this video was recorded with my GoPro Hero 5 Black, until the battery went dead. Then, the last few videos and pictures were with my iPhone 7.

Look at Ur baler's operators manual my friend, it shows very good examples of tying problems & how to adjust/repair for what is going wrong. Ur bales look good, keep pounding them out. U will find that pulling the flat wagon behind is always less then half the work than picking them up from the ground.

Appreciate that advise! And thank you for the compliments. We figured it out in later videos.
The issue I have with pulling a wagon behind the baler is that my helpers either have school or work until late afternoon. I would much rather do that, but I have to get baling ASAP with the dew that sets in early here.

About how many bales you think one can get in 5 acres and how much is a bale? Is it alfalfa?

500 bales sounds like a whole lot for 4 acres. Was that an exceptional harvest or somewhat typical? And if thats not typical what is typical?

Yes, that’s a bunch. 70 bales per acre is considered really good.

@WelshFarms is that 70 per cut or all cuts through the season?
