  • Born in Edinburgh, Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell studied in Paris and lived in Munich before returning to his hometown around 1909. Cadell's pre-war work is heavily influenced by the Impressionists. But from around 1920, his work became brighter and bolder: shadows were suppressed to such an extent that the paintings of this period are comprised of areas of flat colour.
In this film, Alice Strang, Kirstie Meehan, and Guy Peploe talk about the Scottish Colourist’s life and work.

    Dear Sir or Madam,
I was very pleased to come across this well-made and nicely presented video clip today. Inter allia, I learned how to correctly pronounce Mr Cadell's surname.
    Yours faithfully,
    M.R.Watson
