  • Overview of the process of assembling, painting, and weathering a 1/35 Jagdtiger. This is not a step-by-step instructional video...just an overview of building the kit and the final results. This is also not built to represent the subject during WWII. It represents a display version or one in the process of restoration. Finally, sorry about the music! It's a bit obnoxious!
    This is a great kit to build. It goes together with absolutely no assembly problems whatsoever. For 1/35 scale, it's a BIG kit! But the original Jagdtiger was also very big! If you are looking for a kit to practice some new weathering techniques with, this is the one. A huge canvas with lots of detail. Even the vinyl tracks don't look that bad.

    Man...Find your video make me happy, i'am an old fashion modeler, retired from modelling for about 14 years (You know, another wife, another daughter), and now I be back to the hobby, but lost in the middle of too much new stuff. I' am finish in these days, an E100 with modifications (Tiger Porsche turret with side skirt, a quad flak 20 mm in the rear, etc) and I try to put in practice some new techniques but...especially in the chipping and weathering chapter I was very confused. Your video made many concepts very clear. Thanks so much friend !!! (Sorry by my bad english)

      It does seem a bit strange. A mentor of mine several years ago told me some advice I've never forgot. "Model what you see, not what you are told to see." Our first reaction is to head for the internet and find the exact color used at the factory, get an FS number, or find a reliable source for the perfect shade. In reality, we are modeling for realism. The perfect shade is almost never realistic. It's too.....perfect. LOL!

    Hi, I have one very improtant question.Have you used varnish coat after chipping XF-78? Is it necessary? thank you, this is incredible Jagdtiger

    • @mnscalemodeler3217
      @mnscalemodeler3217  Před 6 lety +1

      I usually don't use a clear coat after chipping on armor vehicles. I try to use as little clear coating as absolutely necessary as each clear layer will slightly alter the colors underneath. I will sometimes use a bit of AK Ultra Matte just over the area where the decals go, but I believe I did not do that on this one. It all depends on if something needs protection. Since I use mostly oils for weathering, and they don't interact at all with Tamiya paints, I avoid clear coats when possible. One of the biggest "killers" of realism is a gloss coat, and even if you gloss and the matte coat afterwards, it doesn't appear the same to me.

  • @P4P5
    @P4P5 Před 4 lety +1

    Looks awesome! All of your models do!
    A question regarding chipping. Which thinner do you use for Tamiya paints (lacquer or x20)? I have this habit that i thin all my paints in jars and then just pour them into my airbrush and i use Lacquer thinner. I was reading somewhere thinned with lacquer is harder to chip.

    • @mnscalemodeler3217
      @mnscalemodeler3217  Před 4 lety +1

      If I'm going to be chipping the paint, I usually use X-20A for thinning. For all other applications, I thin with Mr. Leveling Thinner. You are right. I've found that lacquer thinner makes it harder to chip. Tamiya is already pretty difficult with X-20A, but I prefer it a bit tougher as this prevents me from taking too much off at a time. LOL! But lacquer is a bit much. I prefer to leave my paints un-mixed and only mix what I need. Usually I mix different ratios depending on what I'm painting. Hope that helps! Thanks much!

    I paint my model base color XF-78 and it's not close to the one in this video.

    • @mnscalemodeler3217
      @mnscalemodeler3217  Před 6 lety +2

      Not quite sure what could be happening. I did use XF-78 and all images are taken in studio lighting and color balanced. It might be your computer monitor or the fact that most of the images in the video were with a white background, which will make colors seem brighter. Here is the same build with a black background. Does this seem a little closer to your results?

    • @mnscalemodeler3217
      @mnscalemodeler3217  Před 5 lety +2

      @@mephisto7549 80% of my builds use Fruilmodel tracks, but they are expensive and take extra time to assemble, and as I said, sometimes I enjoy working with the vinyl tracks. On top of it, many folks who watch this video may not want or cannot afford the expensive metal tracks, so this shows what can be done with the vinyl ones. It's not a perfect representation, but then a lot of what is given in kits is not perfect. If weathered properly, they look respectable. Not as good as Fruilmodel, but respectable.

    • @brinsonharris9816
      @brinsonharris9816 Před 4 lety

      I completely understand. If it's not your thing, that's fine. It's not everyone's style. Also understand that I in no way advertise as "a complete how-to video" either. It specifically says this is not a step-by-step instructional video...just an overview. There are literally thousands of "how-to" videos out there. I've watched and learned from many of them. But when you get a little experience, sometimes you just want a quick overview to see what someone else is doing. When I started doing these videos, my goal was NOT to bore people. I just wanted to give an overview, not a complete instructional video like so many others.
