Another reason to use personal hotspot is because both of our local "home internet" companies (Comcast/CenturyLink) are too greedy. And without home internet, I can't get wifi. Therefore my iPhone is connected via USB hardwire to my iMac via a cellular only internet connection. I could do Bluetooth hotspot, but I don't want the radiation and I do want the hardwire reliability. Personal "Hotschpotten" at home certainly is not the fastest connection by far as I get a LOT of "buffering" with it that I did not get with my old Comcast ethernet connection. But I'd rather put up with that, rather than give up my fixed "even steven" $55/month T-mobile One "Unlimited" talk/text/data. To me, this beats Comcast and CenturyLink with their multiple additional "odd pennies" hidden fees, which allows them to slowly creep up the final bill. I got rid of my CenturyLink landline in 2016 in part because of that "upcreep syndrome". And Comcast is NOTORIOUS for intentionally overbilling!
Here is another reason to use the phone’s hotspot. I bought a WiFi-only IPad. I can use my IPhone to feed the IPad the Internet. So, while I am out and about playing Pokémon Go, I can use the larger IPad screen.

Hi I’m still learning about what exactly is a hot spot. At my job they don’t have WiFi and I would like to do some work on my computer while sitting here. If I don’t want to use my phones hotspot can I buy it from somewhere? I remember one time we brought hotspot when we rented a car.

Hello, I'm wanting to use my mobile hotspot ON OCCASION when I Dj and this will be my first time and when I use the hotspot -- WILL ALL INBOUND CALLS JUST GO INTO MAILBOX or will an incoming call come through Sir??? How do I stop the interruption so my music playing isn't affected Sir???

Can this be used if you're always roaming? my home Internet is garbage and won't be getting any better anytime soon so can i do hotspot for gaming if I'm always on roaming data?

My home wifi I've got disconnected temporarily so now I can use my smartphone to get online on my computer
QUESTION.. I know that mobile hotspots have to have a data plan on their phones. And then this data is converted as wifi for other devices.. WHAT IF I was connected to a WiFi router (I have my mobile data turned OFF and my WiFi turned ON), will my device (mobile hotspot) share the wifi instead of my mobile data instead? Or will other devices still keep feeding off of my mobile data?

This started 2 day ago. So when I turn on my mobile hotspot all my devices can connect. But when they do they don't get the internet access. Like it show they are connected but no internet access. Do you know how to fix this or I have to call my provider to get it fix.
You will need to check with your provider
If ur on an unlimited data plan you have to pay extra for hotspot
Data is tge internet u use on ur phone. Hotspot is the same but sharing ur internet with other devices but uses ur internet connection depending on your plan alright.

I'm on an unlimited data plan, and considering adding hotspot to it. My question is, if I have hotspot turned on so that another device can use it, if I use my phone for activities that consume data, does it use up hotspot data, or my normal mobile data. (For only the activities on the phone)

Contact your carrier, they would be the ones to ask. They may have disabled it or not offer it.

every time I try it says I don't have a subscription and wants me to change my plane and prolly pay more to use it. I thought this is a function of the phone and not something governed by Verizon... I I need to unlock my phone in order to utilize this function?

Forgive me, but I don't get it. When my smart phone wasn't activated, I used wi-fi at coffee shops, etc., and it's obvious why a mobile hotspot would be better --- but with an activated smart phone, then why? It's already connected to the internet. What am I missing?
You don't need it, but if say you wanted to use your notebook, then the hotspot would enable access.
You don't use mobile data while your on Hotspot. Your using Hotspot data. It's seperate. I have unlimited mobile data and 50gb of "Hotspot " only data. It is a data using wifi basically. I have no home internet. I can't stream to my TV without using my mobile Hotspot.

You have 2 types of date.. Hotspot has its "own"date. Mobile data is seperate. People usually have 8-10Gb of Hotspot data and unlimited mobile data.
