    I've just found out that this style of news graphics didn't finish being used on 30th October 1988 as I'd thought previously. It was certainly used on 5th and 6th November 1988 as well for the early evening news, and maybe at later dates too.

      Are you sure? I have seen a clip from the 5th Nov 1988 and the film after wards also matched the date.

    Imagine if the Internet was as developed as it is today at the time: the outrage there'd be at Grand Prix coverage being shunted to a post-midnight slot; with religious, special interest and minority programmes taking priority over sport...
