I need a Miles and Jet Lag Crossover...go go go!
8:02 I gotta give respect to the brave soul who decided to transport a lamp on a bus.
Come for Miles and Jakwelline riding up Mass Ave and counting all the Dunkins...stay for Miles waffling about Nintendo Directs. Yes, turkeys can be aggressive during breeding season and can run as fast as 25 mph (and fly as fast as 55 mph but only for a short distance). From what I've found, the New Market Pizza & Grill at 1:17 is a former Colonial Beacon gas station. They based the design of their gas stations on the Massachusetts State House. It was founded in 1919 as Beacon Oil, announced a purchase by Standard Oil of New Jersey (now ExxonMobil) in 1929, changed its name to Colonial Beacon in 1930, and then Standard Oil of NJ took over in 1947. The other thing across from it is the Mass and Cass Roundhouse which was originally built to store coal gas by The Roxbury Gas Light Co. in the late 1860s.
That blue train-themed bus behind you in the intro is the Sunshine Flyer (which was renamed "Mears Connect driven by Sunshine" after a merger with Mears Connect in 2023), which is weird to see it being used in Boston as it's a paid Mears service between Orlando International Airport/MCO and the Disney World resorts, created after Disney parted ways from Mears and stopped the free Disney's Magical Express service in 2022. And I absolutely agree with Jakwelline, brownstones are just so cool! The stone in Boston brownstones was quarried at the Portland Brownstone Quarries in Portland, Connecticut! The stone quarried from Connecticut is the same brownstone used in Chicago, Philly, DC, and Baltimore.
Ooh, love the retail history of the Newmarket pizza place!
I knew you'd comment about turkeys
The backwards sound of the Dunkin being subtracted: a brilliant touch
Thank you!! I love when people point out little edits like that.
That turkey TOOK ME OUT
- No Red Line between Central and Porter?
- Biggest tragedy is no trolleybus. I'm furious I have never had a chance in my life to ride a trolleybus.
- This was filmed September 23! I rode the 77's deviation on that day too!
- I'm pretty sure there used to be a second Dunks in Lexington Center on Edison Way.
- The alignment of Old Mass Ave has to do with the bridge over Route 128.
- It's not the Lexington Battle Green at the end. That was back in Lexington Center.
- Also, happy birthday Miles!
Thanks for the birthday wish! I didn't want to use the Red Line because we wouldn't have been able to see the street above. And noted on the Lexington correction!

Come to San Francisco or go to Vancouver, lots of trolleybuses.
When I was a student at Berklee, I lived in Jamaica Plain and had a girlfriend I would visit in Lexington. I would bike Mass Ave or take the buses or trains back if I felt like it. There was also the bike path that started in Somerville and ran all the way to Concord. This was a nice trip down memory lane, seeing all of these routes. So many great options! There was always the Dunkin Donuts at Alewife if I didn’t go for any of the dozen before.
How did the Minutemen avoid being run over by cars as they chased the British from Lexington to Concord? And what side of the road did everyone drive on before the War of Independence?
they revolted by starting to drive on the right and thats one of the reasons for the war, but they dont teach it in school .
Happy birthday Miles!
Thank you so much for the generous donation and birthday wish!!
Happy birthday!@@MilesinTransit
Guys, I don’t understand, I came here for the Jakwellin’s Foamer Fun, Elevevators, Escalators, and More channel, but it says “Miles in Transit”. Did the channel name change or something?
bro what
Omg same, what happened!!
They're joking@@snopedea9902
I know that’s so weird
But why is miles holding the camera for the intro
Miles & Jakwelline 2024: Bus Routes to Dunkin' For All !
If I hadn't seen a discontinued fast food items video recently that Hi-C joke would have gone totally over my head.
Your S tier streets, As a Dutchman, if they were here... I probably would have rated them a A or B but after seeing many of your and other US transit/infra youtubers, I totally get why you gave them an S. I am happy to see that slowly but surely cycling is incorprorated into some of the bigger US cities. It is always a fun and interesting experience seeing your videos. As this is the first time watching this year, let me take the opportunity to wish you and your friends an awesome and productive 2024.
Thank you very much!
happy birthday!!! the turkey was the collab we didn’t know we needed
Thank you!!
For a road I've been down SO MANY TIMES in my entire life as a Masshole, I have to say this was really, really fun to watch.
Thank you!
Happy birthday miles!!!!!!🎉
Thank you!!
Bonus points earned for all that crazy voice acting work.
Why is no longer Jakwelline's Foamer Fun: Elevators, Escalators, and More?
i keep telling her to change the name but she wont
I love seeing your thoughts on the street I use everyday for school just riding the 77 for fun! I wish I could've rode the 77 during the Arlington Town Day, however I was away, but I still get to see what the bus did from this video! Also, I agree that Mass Ave north of Harvard is not pleasant, but I have heard that Cambridge is going to do the same thing they did with Mass Ave in North Cambridge, where there are bus lanes and bollard-protected bike lanes (Still with weird parking inside the bus lanes for local businesses). Happy Birthday and happy 2024!
Thanks so much!
a wonderful ode to the boston area's greatest thoroughfare. the dunkin counter is brilliant
Thank you!
And now it has truly become...Mass Transit Ave.
I always enjoy seeing you travel around my old neighborhood. Definitely miss living in Boston, and especially miss having a good mass transit system. As a BU student during the Jenga building's construction, the general vibe among students seemed to be "laced", because it seemed such a ridiculous thing to spend all that money on when other aspects of the university were in dire need of repair. Still, it is pretty.
I know what you mean, Miles... "in the Pokémon Scarlet game and the Pokémon Violet game"
I can't believe Miles was the overworked Medali Gym Leader and Elite Four member Larry this whole time.
Counter *and* infrastructure tier list? Yes!! And thanks!
Thank you!
Miles when are we getting you on Jet Lag the game
History shot, history shot, right now you're looking at the history shot.
That’s cool how the same street runs from the dense city into the suburbs and out to a semi rural area. Reminds me of how Broadway runs from Manhattan up into the Bronx and Westchester
9:53 so it's not in the video but on mass ave somewhere between the dunks in the prev shot and the cafe in this one, there's a place with TOP TIER hand-pulled noodles
This is for the French toast fund. Happy birthday, Miles!
Hey, thank you so much!!! There are a couple Boston diners where I could actually get an order of French toast for 5 bucks! ;)
Wednesday night just got better with a new Miles video 🕺🏻
7:30 you were not NEARLY harsh enough, that whole stretch is extremely dangerous a lot of the time. Two car lanes going up to 40mph next to unprotected bike lanes, and there's not really any good alternate route for bikes to go. The bus stops also block the bike lanes so bikes have to often move into the dangerous car lanes. I've seen two people get hit-and-run just past Porter last year.
I used to take the 1 in Boston/Cambridge in the 90s. Good to see it's still kicking.
The protected bike lane at the south end of Mass Ave is very new!
i walked along mass ave during that last snowstorm (and took the 1 in the other direction, and the fog on the charles meant that there was absolutely no visibility beyond 5 ft) and it was absolutely gorgeous. favorite spot near the 1's route is a local game store called pandemonium. also happy birthday!
4:22 BU Jenga Building wasn't there when I last visited BOS. Moving streetview is definitely a part of why I continue watching this channel!
This Jenga Building is more based than the Manhattan one, which is "laced in 24K gold" ($3M+ for each of the units there)
They actually added a protected ish bike lane over the bridge with those white piling thingys like 2 months after you filmed this in November or so. Just made the cones that were there for a year or so permanent
Oh, good to know!
always cool to have miles featured on her channel
"It doesn't say heights....." *shot of bus saying Lexington Hts*, enjoyed very much. Also, the video tier listing was mint.
Haha, I was referring to the exterior announcement Jakwelline was imitating, which just says "Arlington"!
@@MilesinTransit all good, absolutely wasn't trying to be spikey, but I realize my comment might have come off that way. Absolutely loved the content.
I like how you thought a meadow in the minuteman national historic park was a farm.... Not to mention you were rating the infastructure on old mass ave when it has a bike path running the length of old mass ave...
I appreciated the joke about the awkward language in Nintendo Directs. Also, possibly a silly question, but why didn't they just make the bike lane on the Mass Ave Bridge into a bike/bus lane? Looks like there'd be enough space for that but I could be crazy/might be just too skinny
I'm not sure! Maybe a lack of will to do one? They tend to be pretty unpopular because everyone gets in each other's way.
Went to see if we have a Texas Ave in Austin, we do but its only 3 blocks long lol.
Thats a long road for New England not to arbitrarily change its name every three miles.
Haha, truly!
Watching Miles In Transit while in transit from Pittsburgh to New York on the Pennsylvanian.
I'd like to invite you to Minnesota to try using only public transit to complete the Hwy 494/694 loop around the Twin Cities. Now that would be a real accomplishment. It was weird to learn how many Dunkins can populate an amazingly small part of Massachusetts. Jeez. Thanks for sharing!
Miles in my hood! Wooooooo!
Miles I’m new here, definitely a fan. I watched a bunch of your videos just an idea. I always see u all traveling with backpacks. I was always curious what’s in the bags. Maybe make a “travelers bag “ video?
I don't think the answer is that interesting! Water, extra camera battery, portable charger...
The Dunk's that you missed between Harvard and Central is a bwlow-grade storefront in one of those "split-level" commercial buildings, super easy to miss if you're not on foot.
That font works well.
Did take the Green line to Symphony just to see the actual Symphony building while we were up in Boston about 11 years ago.
There are Wild Turkeys in Staten Island in a neighborhood near a hospital (Seaview I think), and they can be aggressive if there’s more than one of them. Swans are also pretty aggressive, one in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ chased my mom for a good distance, we figured maybe she got too close to a nest we couldn’t see.
Not to flex too hard but I've played onstage at Symphony Hall. You HAVE TO go to a BSO concert there, the acoustics are God-tier
@@andrewmazzarini2742 yes, I remember there was a (maybe This Old House) visit when they replaced the stage floor, and it wasn’t just using the same wood, it had to work acoustically in the space exactly as the old stage.
You passed right by my building, but took a shot just after it. Sort of disappointed.
Also, most of Mass Ave in Arlington all the way to Lexington Center has the Minuteman Bike Trail parallelling it, so you don't have to ride on Mass Ave.
This road really needs a bus lane. Better would be a light rail or tram service along its length.
the 1 is prob my favorite bus but then like. across the bridge it would be hard to have walk + bike + bus + car
Is Miles ever going to run out of credits fonts?
Probably...I'm worried for the day I repeat one without realizing
@@MilesinTransitITC Zapf Chancery Medium? \m/
Sunshine Flyer! ✌🏾
Do you ever plan to take the maple leaf on amtrak? (NYC to Toronto)
Someday!
Near North station, there's like 15+ dunks.
Wow, the 1 MUST be incredible if it has a per-trip ridership of 50 million!!
Speaking of diversions, the MBTA said today that they're going to be stopping the Fitchburg line at Alewife on February 3rd and 4th. I've never heard of them doing that before.
It'll be shuttle buses, in fairness
So, when are you doing El Camino Real? 😉
The ECR to Daly City? That long samtrans bus route?
@@Canleaf08 No, the song by Alfred Reed
1 Bus meets the E branch at Northeastern University commuter rail Ruggles. The ideal solution for Mass Ave is having battery electric buses charge via the Catenary Wires if not needed on the 77 then they can simply run as a battery bus. Because the battery electric bus can't charge properly in New England cold Winters.
Went to Bodega the last time I was in Boston. Cool shop but too expensive
This plan made more sense (and was completed) than that of a prior bunch who set out to walk the entire thing (and didn't). (Not naming)
Ahhh yes. That point as an adult where the youths consider you old. We’ve all been there
YEAAAA TURKEY TIMEEE
Does the Dunkin’ Donuts in the Harvard Square Station count?
It's closed, unfortunately!
It looks like you missed the Dunkin at Mass Ave and Columbus in the South End. And there's also one in the Harvard subway station if undergound
counts
We covered the Columbus one in one of the Google Maps segments! The Harvard one is closed, unfortunately.
Too bad the red line doesn’t continue all the way to Lexington/Bedford where the Minuteman Bikeway is today. Would be interesting if they could do rail AND trail if they wanted to expand the red line in the future. Also, from porter to Lexington would be amazing as a SEPTA style streetcar. FYI there’s currently a Mass Ave safety improvement project for bikes and pedestrians in the works for Cambridge north of Harvard Square so hopefully it will all be S Tier soon!
Great to hear!!
Apparently the original plan for the Redline was in fact to extend it to Bedford depot (or at least somewhere out near 128) They were going to build it in 2 phases. The first phase was supposed to end in Arlington and Arlington was up in arms about "others" coming into Arlington to get on the subway so Arlington voted to not allow the extension. Pretty short sighted in retrospect of course.
Need more Dunks!
ugh mbta busses are so slow, gotta get more bus lanes. Also what time was this filmed it was pretty busy on that bus. Its crazy how rural MBTA busses go. Is this the farthest stop from downtown Boston?
This was on a Saturday! Surprisingly it's not the furthest - there are T buses that go even further, and indeed the 62/76 goes a little further from where we got on at the end!
thanks for wearing a mask on transit jakwelline, we appreciate you
Happy Birthday 🎂
Thank you!
For a channel that advocates so strongly for cycling infrastructure, cycling safety, and multimodality, I’m disappointed by the lack of Miles In Transit cycling-based adventures. I am looking forward to the release of more bicycle-forward content in the future.
I'm not really a cyclist myself! Truthfully I find it kind of unpleasant if there's even the slightest uphill, but I'm told I need to try it on an e-bike.
The 77 does have Arlington Hights on the front.
The announcement only says "Arlington"!
It's such a little guy!
Aww, thank you so much!
I was trying to follow you on the MBTA website, but I have third-party cookies blocked and the MBTA site continually tries to reload part of the page and nothing happens when I try to click links - I have to right click, copy link, and open a new tab. But then that page keeps reloading something or other. Ouch. I can't even use their contact us form to let them know of the problem.
Fortunately, I was able to find a direct path to their system map PDF.
I'm pretty sure I rode the 1 when I visited Boston years ago.
So ¿why didn't you transfer from the 62/76 to the 76 at Lexington Center and ride it to Worthen Road? You could have gotten a few more bus blocks.
We rode on a weekend, and the 76 only runs on weekdays! The 62/76 is the weekend combination route between it and the 62.
@@MilesinTransit ¡Aha! I knew there had to be a reason for that strange route number.
Do you ever get comments from the NPCs we can see in the background of your videos?
It's happened occasionally! Not super frequently though.
Is the title a reference to "geoff and jay go up the a1" ?
It was not-so-subtly inspired, yeah!
BEN MENTIONED 🔥🔥🔥
In Boston The H do they have New Flyer like Philly or Nova.
Just New Flyer for the most part! You only see Novas on certain shuttle routes operated by private carriers, like the Logan Airport-Back Bay Express or the Boston University Shuttle.
thanks for making my day better
Aww, thank you for watching!
hey yw
miles do least used Amtrak station in Florida: okeechobee. With 4,104 boardings in 2022
Miles, do you have an opinion about DD's change of name and logo? Is dropping "Donuts" from the name an acceptance of what customers really look for, or is it a Cheap Abandonment of Our Beloved New England Culture?
I can't say I have too many thoughts on it - it'll always be Dunks to me!
Would love to see this concept with other noteworthy streets in other major cities (Yonge St in Toronto, Broadway in New York, Woodward Ave in Detroit, just to name a few examples)
Yeah, I've looked into Yonge and Broadway - both of those would be really cool! Woodward is just one bus, right?
@@MilesinTransit Yeah, it does seem like the 462 does basically the whole length of it except for the very ends in downtown Detroit and Pontiac. Admittedly that’s the only one of the three I didn’t really look at and just threw in there because of it being a long iconic street, but Yonge and Broadway both definitely seem like solid contenders!
Orlando resident here FLABBERGASTED to see a Sunshine Flyer in the first shot of the video?! What's that doing there?
It was being used as part of a Red Line shuttle! I should've kept the shot in of us making fun of it...
Aww Ben!
Yea
Comment for viewer engagement
Thank you for your service
Honestly you did Dunkin donuts dirty with the counter, only if you compare it to the Wawa counter. Especially for Boston local lol
Also a vending machine bodega? Anything special in those machines?
No, the vending machine is unfortunately just a facade.
A+
turkeys are really all over the northeast i see them all in the delaware valley too. i think the wise tale is originally ben franklin wanted our nations symbol to be the turkey or something along those lines.
The bike lane south of Theodore Glynn Way going towards South Bay Center is way too wide. I've seen drivers get tired of waiting and actually drive down it! Twice!
To think if that teenager was a violent one, this could've been your last video. lol
Why do they have two numbers on the same bus route? (I’m not from Boston)
Regarding the 62/76? It's kinda silly - it's the weekend/off peak combination of the rush hour 62 and 76 routes!
6:42 RIP trollybus wires.
The little guy thing is so unexpected. This is why I love your content.
Thanks so much!
TURKEYS ARE CUTE
He’S sUcH A liTTlE gUy! 😂
there should really be inter exprss or limited stop busses on the bus laned portions of mass avenue.
where would you put the end of the expess buss route on mass avenu because it stars downtown it shoulg do a bit futher into the suburbs then the local dose so the route takes about the samerun time.
SIXTY SIX FOR LIFE 💜6️⃣6️⃣
Unexpected turkey content.
Hey Miles, how come you dont take the Patreon video and just make it public? It will allow those who aren't patreon subscribers to see that we've had a week full of fun jabbering back and forth on the video before they have. That way they'll be enticed to join patreon and help make your adventures more awesome in the future.
I'm not sure what you mean! Isn't the point of the early videos on Patreon that only patrons can see them, which makes them more exclusive?
@@MilesinTransit once the week early patreon only time is over, most creators change the video from unlisted or private to public.
@@CharlesReiche Oh, gotcha! I schedule my videos and it's annoyingly impossible for scheduled videos to be unlisted, so I just do separate Patreon releases that stay ad-free.
@MilesinTransit I think they mean...upload it as a private/unlisted then release it as a public? Idk, the mind of a brokie is incomprehensible 🤣
Such a little guy
