I think this was his 50th birthday concert with many renowned musicians contributing to the show. I watched it live on VH1 I think it was. And Gail Ann Dorsey is one of my favorite bass players ever. And that's my chum Mike Garson on piano.
Hi Barry ! I think this show was from the concert he performed in NYC for his 50th birthday, with many many guests such as Lou Reed, Robert Smith (the Cure), Nine Inch Nails, the Foo Fighters (obiously ;) ), Pixie’s Frank Black, Smashing Pumpkin Billy Corgan, and Sonic Youth. This particular song is from his album "1.Outside" (I think I told you about this album in a previous comment ^^). And by the way : Gabrels is lead guitarist on 3 Bowie albums in the 90's and was very influential to Bowie at this time. Brian Eno is renowned for his participation in Roxy Music, then for being the producer for many artists (Bowie in the 70s and on "1.Outside" in '95, U2, Devo, Ultravox, Coldplay...). : And the piano part is from none other than Mike Garson, whose collaboration with Bowie goes back to '72 and his "Ziggy Stardust" seminal album. Frankly, I don't think you have any clue how good it feels to exchange all these infos with someone who's (almost) discovering the BowieVerse ^^ !
Sorry, but some inaccuracy here. Nine Inch Nails was not a part of the 50th birthday celebration. Brian Eno was collaborator and co-writer on the Berlin Triology, but didn’t produce (Tony Visconti and Bowie did). Mike Garson was not on the Ziggy Stardust album but joined the band when they came to the states.
@@vegdagol2843 Oops, you're right on all accounts : NIN was not part of the Madison Square Garden concert : I confused with the tour they did together (the year before, am I correct on this ?...) Eno wasn't the producer on Low, "Heroes" and Lodger, though his implication (at least for the 2 first albums) was an essential part of the Bowie evolution to ambient music. Garson wasn't on the Ziggy album, it was actually Mick Ronson (shame on me on that one :( ...). He joined the band in '73 and his particular style was all over "Aladdin Sane" (another great track to react to, btw ;) ). Thanks for the corrections, Vegdagol :) !
Yes, it was the 50th birthday bash. I went to a concert of the same tour, in Brazil. This is the best Bowie phase for my taste. I just love it. It happened at the Madison Square Garden, 9th January 1997. By then, my favourte songs were Hello Space Boy, Telling Lies and Battle for Britain. The bass player of that tour is Gail Ann Dorsey, the drumer, Zachary Alford.
Well that was quite a head basher ! I'm more partial to the Pet Shop Boys version, seems more etherical than guitar & drums. But anything Bowie did was good.
For my request there are 2 videos of the same performance you will find but one has lower volume then the other , obviously pick the one with better volume .
How have I lived this long and never seen this?😂 Great video and reaction though! Oh if possible could you do a reaction to tyler childers "nose to the grindstone "pretty sure you'd enjoy it 😊
My first request is "heart of the sunrise" and "roundabout" by Yes. My second one is "push" by matchbox 20 and"lonely no more" by Rob Thomas, audio versions please!🙂🙂

yes, that was it, 9th January 1997, Madison Square Garden.
I saw Bowie doing this live in his last world tour and it was absolutely mind blowing. An evolved version even again.. So good.
One of my favorite Bowie tunes, never heard the Foos version, great stuff!
Is from the David Bowie 50 Birthday Concert...! Bowie plays too with Robert Smith, Frank Black, Lou Reed and Billy Corgan!
Hollow Spaceboy xD That is Great! Gonna remember that one xD
