Daily Detroit hit the streets of Chicago to ask people what they think about Detroit. We welcome everyone's opinion, but to the last guy in the video? He's definitely got it all wrong.
Canadian here. I am across from the Detroit Skyline. For Concerts, Hockey & shopping, I cross to go over there. Driving through Detroit; honestly, I initially see beautiful city buildings but as you go deeper into the city there are so many vacant, over grown lots. Easily visible too are what were once grand homes and buildings that have sadly become dilapidated and left standing to rot. Years pass by but condemned properties don’t seem to get torn down. As you drive through residential streets, there are random houses with windows boarded up, trash left in empty lots, and areas that scream ‘hard times’ and ‘struggle’. Except for investment, I don’t know what else it would take to help bring the residential areas back to a time when jobs paid a decent, living wage for people and families no longer felt like ‘surviving’ had to feel like the norm.
And of course, in Canada there no such things as poorer sections of towns or boarded up buildings, trash, drug addicts, etc. I forgot, you are all so perfect.
I live on the east side and I still say that my city the best city regardless of how much shit go on at the end of the day I still have to live in this environment and deal with it 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
Detroit’s my favorite city. We got fun sports to watch, we got good pizza (better than Chicago style), we have Eminem, we have a gorgeous river, we have a view of Canada, awesome museums, Robocop land, and more.
@@SheckleRFan715 yes. Downtown, Corktown, Greektown, Eastern Market, Wayne State, East English Village, Midtown, Boston Edison Historic District, Palmer Woods, Cass Corridor, Brush Park, and more. Detroit itself isn't safe, but the neighborhoods mentioned above are notorious for low crime. Detroit is safer than people think.
As someone who lives in between Ann Arbor and Detroit, every time I go to Detroit I experience something new and somethings I would never expect to be there. I mean other than the bad areas we got awesome things. We got a beautiful River, some cool museums, some fun sports to watch, Detroit style pizza, etc.
Yeah maybe but the gang violence seems to be out of control, I'm just an observer from a small sea-side town in a sleepy English village and I've been watching a lot if old news shows from the 70s 80s 90s and most recent the l ast 10 years and it has most the highest murder rates across the decades. Guns in the wrong hands is definitely an issues. Some of the fire power these young gang members own is actually scary. I'm a little white boy and wouldn't last a minute in those projects. I'm sure I'd get killed for being white. Seems like there's a lot of issues all over the world
Indeed. And a lot of world class institutions remain. Especially the theaters and museums. Not to mention belle isle. Also great in the food department. Chicago doesn’t really have an eastern market type place. And if we did, good luck finding a parking spot.
Shout out to the Mid West, Chicago, Detroit and Indianapolis really kind hearted people, as far as Detroit the people have a lot character, a dewalt kit and building material can change house which in return can change a neighborhood which can change a city
If Detroit had things to do it would be a better city it’s like Chicago size wise bet has a Gary Indiana look to most of the city...I’m from Chicago and visit there alot just my opinion
The guy said he never have been to Detroit yet he act like he knows all about it. Truth -Detroit is now thriving, especially their downtown and Chicago is now dying. Detroit also has their economy in order now where Chicago economy is out of order with a lot of corruption and super high city taxes. Detroit is also artsy and innovative. Wait until 2023 Chicago.. by then the largest bridge in America would have been completed in detroit, one of the largest skyscrapers in the Midwest and the Silicon Valley Ford ( worlds largest former train station) would be completed. Michigan governor arrested Detroits former mayor and cleaned up the city while Chicago let the Daily machine and their former crooked governors destroy theirs. Whole crime continues to decrease substantially in detroit, according to the fbi, , it continues to increase substantially in Chicago. Chicago people also in denial. I went through tons of neighborhoods in Chicago of abandon homes, scary places and piles of trash in the streets etc. let’s be frank Chicago people. Even Detroit’s international airport is better...
Nice One the same with detroit. You can find all type of rankings like this one more recent ranked number 2 best place in the world to visit. www.mlive.com/news/detroit/2017/10/detroit_named_a_top_travel_des.html so how much $$ did Chicago pay to be ranked by those publications??
@@MichiganUSASingaporeSEAsia My gal lives in Detroit and I live in Chicago. Detroit's dope. It isn't in Chicago's league. It's pointless to compare a city of 700,000 people to one with 2.6 million.
