We’re so excited to be back!! Thanks for supporting our very specific variety of weird fun!!
les goooo
this is my favorite series on youtube :3
It’s good to be back!
We need to protect you guys at all costs
Go bananas! 😉
We’re back y’all! :D
LETS GO
Why'd you have to eat so many peppers Rob 😭
Happy to see you back again! Love youuu!
HELL YEAH!
You're a madman, and I am absolutely here for it!
A legendary sonic explorer once said "You be the guitar, I'll be the fruit".
You guys are bananas! Miss ya boys

Honestly if Sonic Boom was a Saturday morning Kids TV show, I would have loved it growing up.
A+ comment, absolutely the truth. Learning about instruments with a couple goofy talented guys? Heck yeah.
If it was on TV, I'd watch it. Like I'd happily watch the ads.
Kids TV definitely needs more fuzz tone! But moments like 4:10 would never be allowed to be broadcast...
True
If you guys don't bring the fruit pedal to first of October this year... COME ON RUN YOUR GUITAR THROUGH A PUMPKIN IT WRITES ITSELF
I can already see a punk song called "pumpkin tonez"
11:20 was crying out for some ah-oh-god-only-20-minutes-left-on-the-clock First of October improvised vocals

@DarkSparkNova182 "Garlic on me at all times, oh god, just realised I'm doing this again."
Did some reading up on the FloraVolt pedals. Apparently, the fruit/vegetable used actually POWERS THE PEDAL. Like an old-school potato clock! This is why it sounds like a voltage-starved fuzz; you're LITERALLY only providing enough power for the pedal to JUST function. So cool!
That is AWESOME! Fruit and veggie music power!
They also make a Solar Saturator that produces overdrive noises with natural light, (Doesn't have to be direct light, but if you put your hand over, it does interrupt the sound.) Also uses no power supply.
Makes sense. I figured only as much that the signal doesn't directly go through the fruit since I don't think it will do much to the tone. That's pretty sick idea.
Yes, this pedal uses the same concept as a potato battery, but saying that the vegetable is giving the power is only true in the most shallow understanding of how a galvanic battery works.
The current flows because there are two metals with different electrode potentials reacting with each other (One being reduced and the other oxidized.) The fruit is not providing any power, it's just acting as the electrolyte, a fluid containing ions that can transfer charge from one metal electrode to the other.
The metal rods themselves are what provides the power. Essentially the pedal comes with a built in low-voltage battery.
Placing the fruit down makes the battery work.
It would explain the different metal for each electrode. But then it also explains why there is not much difference. It's basically just a "you get more or less fuzz and signal going through as the power increases". But the actual fruit used doesn't really change anything. The most important will be probably the resistance, and the level of acidity (more acid usually results in higher voltage with those batteries - or is it only about the amount of ions that makes the fruit more conductive ? idk)
12:17 from now on when i use tremolo, im going to imagine there's a little rob scallon inside the device that is rapidly mashing a potato into metal pins.
We can’t prove that’s NOT what’s happening!
I think the handsome one was right about how you say produce.
The signal isn't actually running through the fruit just FYI. The fruit and the different metals of the spikes create a battery that powers the pedal. Different fruits and surface areas will make a better or worse battery (varying voltage) that gives the pedal different amounts of headroom, so more or less clipping
They all sounded the same to me. The only difference was between just touching it or smashing them on there. What is you used different metals like stainless steel, aluminum, or copper?
@@doknoxZinc and copper
@@doknox it was like a fruit version of tweaking an EQ until it sounds just perfect, and then seeing the bypass turned on
Mind your own business.
"I don't know if it's pre- or post-potato volume" 😂
You guys are taking the 'Did you record this with a potato?' meme way too seriously. 😂
Rob regretting each time he eats the pepper is my favourite 😂🌶️
he suffers for his art
It's great to see you, Rob, and your two studio musicians who are definitely different people back in action!
20 hours ago? This video was uploaded minutes ago! How!?

There are 4 people.
Clearly four different people. Did you look at their hair?
Less than three minutes in and you have already delivered my favorite line of 2024: "There's a little more distortion in the potato."
Season 2 of Sonic Boom, and you've already lost your marbles completely... This is gonna be a great season
the pronunciation bit at the beginning was very funny to watch xD
I'm French, i've grown hearing all sorts of British English, American English, Parisian French, Northern French, Southern French, Quebec French... my brain is not equipped to differentiate between whatever you guys were saying so i just heard the same word 8 times without processing the differences xD
So were you having trouble processing the differences, or were you having trouble processing the differences?
really love the additional screen time the house band is getting! glad rob and andrew were able to sign them back on
“Whatever a potato is, I believe it’s a type of meat” definitely nailed it😂
YOOO SEASON 2 SONIC BOOM LETS GOO!!!! 🎉🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤
"there's a little bit more distortion in the potato" is such a funny sentence 🤣
It's a "Tuber Screamer"!
the bassist just standing there killed me
So funny watching Andrew play guitar while Rob sits on the floor mashing a potato into the floor pedal like a little kid playing with toys xD This show is the best
Sonic Boom! Season Two: "Tastes Like Tone"
The spicy banana bass jam is so good! 🌶️🍌🎸
The fruits and veggies have different transfer functions, which act on the AC signal coming through the line, so they're basically like equalizers set to a specific noisy, dynamic setting.
Really like how you wrote bass and drums for "the band" to play over some of the jams. Leaning more into the "show" aspect of Sonic Boom in a good way. So glad to see you guys back. After the FoO videos in November, I was kind of worried about Rob. Then with Andrew's video addressing his hearing loss, I really thought we might have seen the end.
I couldn’t be happier that this show is back much sooner than i expected. I would love to see extended edits of these episodes
The thing that amazes me more than anything on the show is that Andrew looks the same from 12 years ago. The dude doesn't age!
There's a modular synth in his attic that is becoming older and more horrifying by the day.
@@robinr22Depends on how clean of a life he lives. If he isn’t very hedonistic, the synth won’t show too much wear. 😂😂😂
It's like something out of 2001: A Space Odyssey, with Andrew playing a guitar made out of folded sheet metal, and Rob is smashing a potato on the ground.
I expected nothing less than full commitment to the pepper bit from Rob. Glad to see a new season of this!
The missed opportunity to play Californication through a red hot chili pepper
Holy hell, Spicy Banana is such a vibe.
NOOO WAYYY. I’ve been really looking forward to season two. I was really bummed when the other season ended. Y’all are awesome for doing this
Rob Scallon: Master of all instruments, even/especially the ones he invents himself. That will never get old.
Oo, ooh, that’s an idea: try scallions and other members of the onion/garlic/allium family to power these pedals!
Watching rob repeatedly slam a potato onto the pedal while andrew plays is priceless
"Here's apple..."
"...and here's potato..."
I LOVE SONIC BOOM
"There's a little bit more distortion in the potato" is the funniest thing i've heard so far this year
that tone is so fucking good
As you guys have once said… “It’s good to be back!”
I really like Andrew's creativity this episode. He played them good notes.
Blue-haired Andrew just standing there bored while Rob played the bass was pure comedy.
Literally binged season 1 last week, Thank you for bringing this back! Love you guys!
Growing the wigs out LOL 😆
spicy banana bass jam felt like a track by The Black Keys
“There’s a little more distortion in the potato” was not something I thought I’d ever hear
Rob & Andrew out here casually improvising actual bangers while being plugged into fruits & veg, I can't believe it.
“Pre- or Post-potato volume” made me rethink everything I’ve learned about audio.
I am so confused whether the "studio musicians" bit was recorded before or after the other bit... well played.
So that's what grating a potato sounds like
"There's a little bit more distortion on the potato" words I never thought I would hear
“Tastes like tone” - Rob Scallon, 2024
This is my favorite series on CZcams 😄
I have a challenge idea for your sonic boom show. Heres my shot:
Writing a song 1 measure at a time then putting them together randomly. Me and my band tried this and some pretty cool sounds and rhythms came of it. Your great andrew!
Love this series so much. Glad it's back!
Andrew and Rob are rockin' the food pyramid!
FINALLY SEASON 2!! I've really waited for it so much 🍌🍎🎸
That spicy banana bit was amazing, that needs to be a full song
Boom getting antsy as Rob was eating peppers had me rolling.
"There's a little bit more distortion in the potato" -Rob Scallon
I would pay for a full album of bluesy, spicy, jazzy fruit pedal.
Would be nice to see/hear more instruments and styles through it.
Well done, glad you're back.
'there's a little bit more distortion in the potato' was a sentence i never thought i would hear
I miss this series. So exhilarated that it's back for season two.
there's something so funny about Rob Scallon, insane guitarist, sitting on the floor playing with a potato
The company behind those pedals missed a great opportunity by not calling them "FlavorTone"
Im sitting at the laundromat waiting for the washer to be done and opened on my youtube app....i made an audible gasp when i saw another sonic boom episode at the top of my recommended lol
As a chef and musician, I can’t think of a video where my help was more needed. Missed my invite.
Best show!! Can't wait to see what you've got in store for us with this season. I'm sure it's beyond anything we'd expect.
You should get that nervous squirrel eurorack module and mod it with some kind of wand attachment. And then build a portable synth with it, taking it to places with radiation.
I have been waiting for this. This show is absolutely inspirational, and just hilarious. Good luck for the future guys!
I'm very excited to this season! And see what both you are going to do this year.
My favorite part is the song generator.
2:38 “There’s a little bit more distortion in the potato.” 😂
The spicy banana and Tuber Blues jams sounded really cool.
11:30 that's probably the sickest thing I've ever heard. Would love a full song.
“I don’t know if it’s pre or post potato volume.” 😂😂😂
- Cmon give me a beat!
- *plugs in a beet*
Yesss! I’ve been so excited for season two! By far the best series on CZcams right now. Can’t wait to see what you guys have in store for us :)
The humour in this one is like so much funnier than before I love it
"There's a little bit more distortion in the potato."
That's not a sentence I would want to hear without context.
Imagine running drums through these pedals! like your snare or kick!
Just can't help but think of lyrics for this. "This fruit sa-lad, is ex-treme"
This is a great video to show to your kids in a few years, like, this is what dad was doing for living
FINALLY, THE BEST COLLAB ON CZcams RETURNS

The banter with Red and Blue is the best.
