After putting the C70 through its paces for the last three years I've consolidated all my learnings into a course! Linked here: www.ericwalkervideo.com/c70
Dont own a c70 or canon but love your channel and videods
god canon needs to fix that LCD hinge, its so sloppy.
6:16 mate that's a major learning right there for batt manufacturers
2:00 plus with the Tilta full cage it's harder to mount / balance width horizontally on an RS2
Yea, this SmallRig cage allows you to slide right into DJI quick release plates!
Amazingly detailed breakdown. The one major issue I have is that the entire rig now weighs 10 pounds! Virtually twice the original configuration. You said (and I agree) that the Canon battery is pretty much all that's necessary, except for the comfort factor, I would (and will) lean toward figuring out how to put a big block of styrofoam or even balsa wood where you put that huge battery, to keep the camera further out from my stomach, but still give you a contact point.
To solve the small lens balance issue, attach a cheese plate like the 1598 with a 2172 48mm nato rail as far back as needed, then you can place your top handle further back and get perfect balance.
Thank you for the breakdown! Definitely some stuff in there that I will apply to my rig
I love this so much! Rig videos are the best!
Dreaming of needing a C70 so this will forever be in my saves. Thanks for the Osee tips!
Nice Bro
Love your stuff, Eric. You're one of few CZcamsrs who views new gear through a pragmatic lens. It's all about the filmmaking. Thanks, man.
Awesome build. Think i will try this for my C70.
As a c70 owner and lover you have helped me a lot. Thank you 🙏🏿 🙏🏿🙏🏿
This was so enjoyable to watch. Thorough, succinct, and laugh-out-loud funny! Perfection.
(I also just got back from a day shooting with my C70, where I was specifically thinking about how to improve its ergonomics so this was incredible timing!)
Nice. I’ve been through a few iterations myself but it’s now not far off what you have there, albeit with a Zacuto cage, smallrig top handle that you can change 90 degrees (zacuto nato rail goes forwards and backwards), and third party BP-A60’s that protrude enough to use my body as a third point of contact. I’ve also recently invested in an EasyRig Minimax after turning 40, ha. I won’t be using it for every shoot, but if it’s a long day doc shooting and a lot of stuff outdoors it makes perfect sense. I’ve already done a few long days like that and have basically no arm/shoulder fatigue by the time I’m heading home.
Nice! I’ve only used EasyRigs on bodies like the Amira, I’m sure it would make easy work of any C70 rig. Maybe someday I’ll pick one up.
Would love to see you do a tutorial on using Teradek with the c70 please!
Building out our new c70 now.. Getting the smallrig ( waiting on it to get here )! Great video.
Nice... this may help. I have a smallrig nato handle HTN2362 which allows you to rotate and lock the handle while connected to the rail. So you then add another small nato rail to the side mount of the cage and you can use the smallrig handle on the side to almost mirror the C70 grip on the right, plus you can then move the handle to the top. Hope that makes sense.
I rig mine the same way and it is great, the adjustable rotation is soo quick, clean and spot on.
Small Rig has a new V Mount setup coming for the C-70, incorporating rods, v-mound plate & chest pad, shown on the B&H site
Thanks for putting this together! I currently have the tilta cage and might have to trade it out for the smallrig
Great edit. C70 is a beast. Looks like a great rig.
Great vid.
For camera balance on smaller lenses a clamp on mattebox might help out :) love the channel dude! keep creating
0:23 or (solution #2) grow a beer belly haha ;-)
Busting the gamer lights out for this one
added a rosette to the left side of my Kondor Blue cage. Then attached Kondor blue quick release left handle. It swivels to adjust to any way I need to hold the camera. For me, it's better than having a fixed position handle.
Nice. Is the handle's record button compatible with the C70?
I have already had to replace the LCD on my C70. I wish there was a external monitor that could control AF and the little focus box. As beautiful as your rig is it still has an Achilles heal.
Strange question but you wouldn't be interested in selling the tilted cage would you?
Super build - I use canon r5c foto/film need. For the sound part, I can recommend Røde wireless Pro. 32 bit sound with many options, overall cheaper than previous products or competitors with what you get when you buy them - and then you have a backup of the sound and they support time code, haven't tested that part yet...
I've never rigged out a camera quite like this, but I would suggest getting longer rails, and attaching weights to them when using the lighter lenses. Not sure how you'd attach them, but torque and physics and stuff.
Men looks beautiful, but i play the video to see how you connect the vmount to power the camera and now i just thing is a just counterbalance prop? Or you actually power the camera? Or just for the teradek?
I have 2 C70's and an R5c. All of them have a nice thick cumfy strap. Nobody uses a strap? I use side/top handles too but a strap is effortless. I use a SmallRig Rod pad against my chest with the strap. Literally holding no weight with my arms if needed. If I gotta itch my nose I can. I can mess with the menus no problem. I don't have to put the camera down. I recently shot a company event. No set ups. It was shoot as it happens. I never knew what was coming until it was happening. My camera was in front of me at all times. One camera on sticks but a lot of hand held. I was running both. I can't imagine holding my camera for that long with out straps? All good.
I’m looking for a strap/chest pad combination too for handheld. Would you mind pointing the parts you use? Even the handles? Thanks!
why not change your chest instead of the vmounts. ;)
My homie, you are providing so much value. Those bh links should be amazon affiliate links so you can stack some pennies off of each purchase. It’s not much but it WILL add up.
idk if this would work or look dumb but you can try a StabiLens Gimbal Ring.. or IronGlassAdapters rehouses helios lenses, their a bit pricey but they can make it bigger and heavier i believe
extension rig is discontinued
Nice rig. Clearly, the solution to the lens weight distribution is to get a faster (heavier) lens 😂
keep using that song lol--Or at least bring it back for future vidz. Great job on this.
👍🏾
When reaching out to small rig, how did you do so?
Lose the vmount get a battery that has the capacity and the ability to power other devices
Hi! Nice work on the new rig! I've got similair parts and was wondering. If you plug in the vmount to the dc and the bpa30 in de slot, does it switch to the bpa30 after a while? Mine does after 2 min. Thinking about switching the dc cable from Alvins Cables.
Nice rig. I run the same mic. Why no sock?
When you use the v mount with your C70 do you leave your BPA 30 in? I just am getting my rig set up and for some reason if I leave the BPA30 in it drains that first and then the v mount. Which is weird because when I use the wall adapter it overrides the battery.
Maybe try having the V-mount plugged in before you turn on the camera? My Shape d-tap power cable doesn't drain the battery first when I do that.
I do manual focus a lot for my stuff and the bottom corners of the cage always dig into my palms when I focus, is there any kind of wrap or leather something that can cushion that?
For handheld do you usually use a lens with image stabilisation or is the footage stable enough with this setup?
Typically yes, I’ll use lens IS if it’s available
@@SoundItOutFilmsWhat IS lens would you suggest?
Awseome rig 🤤 Your LCD looks sooo loose 😂🫣 8:33
Oh yea, it's seem some sh*t
@@SoundItOutFilms Send it to canon. they fixed mine
