    My husband and I paid off $72,000 of debt this year!! I am so proud to say we are debt free. It took a lot of hard changes but we are so happy because of the changes we made. We are literally starting our lives over but I hope we can teach our kids that going into debt to keep up with everybody else will never make them happy ❤️ I have loved your content this year. Keep going. You are doing amazing things.

      Isn't it strange how most of us girls are never taught that? Even Jennifer Lawrence, a very confident and successful woman, said she's still learning she doesn't have to smile when a man makes her uncomfortable. And saying no? Even harder when you're conditioned to always smile and agree.
      Awesome that you've learned :) Congrats!!

    My big victory: letting go of feeling responsible for my mother's emotional well-being. It's really hard to let go of toxic people in your life when you still love and care about them, so I'm proud of myself for being able to recognize that by taking on these responsibilities I'm not helping either of us to get better. I'm glad I can finally allow myself to put down these responsibilities and move toward a healthier mindset.

      This also might go unread, but I wanted to add my Big Victory for 2019 is I made it!!
      It’s kinda simple, but 2019 was one of the most difficult years I’ve been through. I finally started processing various experiences I had from the past that were holding back my internal healing and growth, I moved across the world, and I finished graduate school. There were so many moments were negativity, sadness, and self doubt consumed me, but...
      I did it!
      Ya biiish made it and I know this next decade is going to be amazing🎊🎊

    My biggest victory of 2019 was finally realizing what unconditional love meant. The tail end of 2018 and all of 2019 has been a really challenging time for my mental health. Finally being able to ask for help, recognize that I need help and then accepting the help had me feeling both humbled and victorious.
    My 2020 victory and goal is to actively eliminate my external anxiety - credit card debt!

    My big victory last year was to wrest myself free from my own preconceptions and vision I have had for my life since I was 14. Things have been slowly changing since 2015 or 2017 depending on how you count it but in 2019 everything finally reached a breaking point and I spent the entire (the ENTIRE) summer doing the really hard work of coming to terms with the fact that my priorities are different than they used to be, the things I want for myself are different than they used to be, and that I can't keep pretending to myself OR other people that nothing's changed. I took some really huge steps towards that last year and it was a Big Victory for sure.

    Thank you so much for sharing this exercise. It matters to me to acknowledge a shift I made this last year, inspired by your One Step podcast, and that was finally opening up with my counselor and most trusted friends about my greatest shame, my insomnia. I started what will likely be a long process of seeing what change I can make with it to improve my health and relationships. It also matters to me to acknowledge my Big Victory: facilitating my autistic son's transition to high school and finding our new normal. It's a transition with YEARS of work and preparation behind it, and it was really hard with many complicating factors, but we got through it, and now he's thriving and getting all A's for full credit.

  • @Maxride268

    The big victory I'm sharing in person is actually a different one, because my biggest victory was that I came out as trans to my friends and some of my family - but obviously they already know that, so I can't exactly re share it. But in general I'm super proud of myself for having the courage to take that step to truly live as myself and allow myself that chance at happiness. The word I chose for 2020 was "Self" because even though I took that huge step in 2019, I still did too much compromising myself and my health and happiness for the comfort of others, and I want to make that promise to myself to really prioritize me this year, and continue the journey of discovering who I really am.

    • @wanderingoff13

Your word for 2020 is beautiful - the intention of honoring yourself and taking care of your needs first is so important. I'm happy to hear you're giving yourself that gift this year, it will only make life more expansive. Sending so much love your way! 💕💕

    @AubreyFite1 Před 4 lety +1

    My big victory was advocating for myself and seeking out a therapist! I hadn't attended any sort of counseling since early college (8 years ago) so this was a big step! My word for 2020 is FREE: freedom from the things I've been holding on to too tightly, freedom from the pain my past trauma has caused me and I'm sure many other freeing feelings I don't know about yet :)

  • @koreighlee
    @koreighlee Před 4 lety +5

    My word for this year is "mindfulness." More specifically, working to reintegrate my mind with my body, something that I've struggled with as a result of trauma. I'm hoping to do the work to be more aware and appreciative of my body, and take ownership of it. Or at least begin to.
    My big victory for 2019 is letting go of toxic habits and learning to believe and accept kindness from the world and people.
    Love these videos, and I wish you the best of luck with your 2020 intentions! ❤️✨

    My biggest victory is overcoming some intense anxiety I was feeling toward my relationship. I wanted to leave my partner and I didn’t know why. Through deep reflection I realized it had nothing to do with him and instead it had to do with being afraid my relationship would end up like my parents (my mom committed suicide and I had a fear I’d end up doing the same.) There are plenty of other moments I could share, but this one feels like the most important one because it led me to overcome a lot of childhood traumas and grow from them.

  • @aliceb7364
    @aliceb7364 Před 4 lety +7

    My word for 2020 is going to be Compassion = Because I want to place less emphasis on the word 'confidence'. I would like to be more confident, but struggle to understand what that means for me. I feel it would be more helpful to focus on compassion, and acting in a way the honours growing the love I have towards myself and embracing the love I have for others and their love for me. In my current headspace, love is more unconditional, then confidence is, and I want my year to reflect that.

    Happy new year, Ingrid!
    Your videos are a breath of fresh air. Thank you for sharing this excercise.
    My big victory: I started therapy. I consitently showed up and never missed an appointment.
    After being reluctant for so long, I found a great therapist. In our first session she said "Therapy sucks".
    Welp, I made a mistake, I thought.
    But then she explained that is hard to untangle and unravel the hurt it our life. But is through this that we can heal.
    I can confirm that, sometimes, it did suck. My 2019 was challenging, to say the least.
    But with all the changes I faced, I'm still standing. I'm a resilient woman and I'm proud of the work I put into my mental health. :)

    Hello Ingrid, this might be weird to share online but I remember discovering you in 2017 and I felt something like you were not honest and like you were hiding something. You are not the first person this happened to me. Recently I discovered your podcast and I learned more about you and you finally showed your real self that I am so proud how far you come. Sorry if I couldn't be a loyal subscriber. I tend to unsubscribe many youtube channels as a detox. I am glad to resubscribe to your channel knowing you and I are trying to improve ourselves to become a better and to learn more. So thank you for being honest. I look forward to follow the journey of self -growth.

    i loved this exercise. would love to do it myself 💕 big victory of mine: slowly but surely i am being more comfortable with opening up to others, and meeting new people and conversing with them as i tend to be very "shy", very reserved so i am quite happy for that! #newfriends i am really looking forward to all the incredible changes that i feel coming this year :)

    Written these down to do as morning page prompts so I can think about them when I'm feeling vulnerable and reflect properly :)

    Wow, I’m learning so much about you that I either took for granted or assumed.
    This is a great process. Wondering what your thoughts on physically writing down your intentions versus typing them up. Or, say now with smart phones, saving on your phone and updating there?

    This video resonated with me so well! I love your intention driven approach to start off 2020 and have adopted a similar approach.
    My 2019 victory was prioritizing myself by starting therapy.

      Ingrid Nilsen Celebrate is such a good word for this year! We definitely have a lot to celebrate this year since we’re welcoming our first baby into the world and buying our first house! My word for the year is “positivity” since I’m trying to kick my mental health in the ass and cultivate a more positive mindset! Hopefully this will be the year of hitting 15k on CZcams too 🤞🏻

    Ingrid! You have been such a great inspiration to me as a gay woman of color. You have helped me so much over the years. Watching you on CZcams gave me the strength to come out as a lesbian to my family in 2017. I have thus turned my life around and now I’m living my own truth! I’m most proud of finally wiring my memoir (Between Many Colors) and getting it published! Thank you so much for being this community together 💕😊🏳️‍🌈
