Get yourself a reamer bit to smooth out them holes. Or drill em with a slightly smaller bit then drill in reverse with that bit and there won’t be any sharp burrs. 🤙🏼💰👙

Although I'm sure I can build one very similar to yours without seeing you do it, HOWEVER it sure is nice to see someone do it BEFORE I do it, and make a mistake. Thank you for the video.

Very thrifty. I knew there was a good way to make your own. Thanks for sharing

INSIDE OUT - I would drill the holes from the inside out, using a longer drill bit or extension bit. That way, the sharp edges will protrude on the outer surface of the scoop and be fairly easy to file smooth, and then just use some sandpaper to give the holes an even smoother finish. A deburring drill bit will also work, if you have one.

nice looking scoop. you need a hand deburring to finish the holes neatly... good luck!

Nice. Simple and inexpensive. Im sure youve used it by now. Gotta ask. How did it preform ? Did it twist on the rake handle when digging ? Did it bend or contort ? Did you find you needed some kind of "foot Peg" to step on like a shovel, and finally did you use it in the water pushing thru shells and other debris ? thanks for the vid as ill be tackling this same project soon and 4 quarts looks like its a good size for this.

It worked great. I've had it on 2 beach trips. Panama City Beach and Va Beach. Lots of use and haven't had to do anything to it yet. I probably have over 24 hours detecting using it. No bending, no rust, haven't even had to tighten the screws anymore. I'm actually editing a Va Beach video from a trip last week right now. You'll be able to see it in action in a couple of days.

    I hope it works!

Not being a smart a** but why did you need the rake handle?

So you don't have to bend over and pick the coins out of it.

WHAT??? Apparently you must be a very young person. An old or older person would know exactly what the handle is for - even before using it or seeing it in action. I've done a lot of metal detecting, and getting down on my knees to pick up a coin or dig through the sand many, many times while out detecting, gets really fatiguing. Heck, I'll be able to work (have fun) all day long using one of these without killing my back or my knees!!!
I bought two of these exact scoops at a garage sale (brand new) a few years ago for just 3 dollars, knowing that someday I would have a use for them. So I went into my garage a few minutes ago and found them. I will start making my scoop today! And yesterday morning at a garage sale, I bought an unused, wooden rake handle for a dollar. And I'm sure I have a couple "U" bolts in my garage sale hardware collection boxes.
