- A few reports and interviews from 30 years ago this week when it was announced that Michael Knighton was the new owner of Manchester United, although that wasn't to be the end of the story.

I was at Old Trafford for the Arsenal game standing on the stretford end and out comes this bloke juggling a ball and shooting into the net !! Me and My dad thought he was our new signing for a couple of minutes!! We wondered who he was for a while though. Then we beat Arsenal 4-1 and a season of inconsistency started. Thank god he didn’t buy us though. Same with sky 9 years afterwards. And we had the wizard as manager and the domination started!!
Looked like a more hirsute Phelan - and played better.
scherben cheaper as well!!
Came back here after his now attempted bid for a new takeover.. Still red flags everywhere
United would have been like a Leeds or Nottingham Forest in the Championship to this day if Michael Knighton ever became chairman. Forget about all those titles.
Watching this entire thing and thinking "there is nothing new under the sun". History is merely repeating itself
One does wonder just how many trophies United would have really won had the takeover gone ahead
Before the flying saucer whisked him away!.
JESUS CHRIST!!!!!!!!
Imagine if he did buy United for Ten Million....That is pocket change for Elite football players now
Man United are worth 3 Billion now (the latest evaluation)
And this was before Roman Ambraovich came along.... This man was a VISIONARY
This man was a conman
" I've always been a fan of professional SOCCER " 😳😳🤔🤣
Look at Old Trafford then, a million times more atmosphere.
People were moaning like fuck about the atmosphere then. The Stretty was nicknamed 'The Library', and the last few games of 88/89 were played in front of an half full stadium that was almost totally silent.
scherben I remember being at the Wimbledon game in May 1989 and there was 23,000 there and it was depressing. Then the following season we had the debacle at city and the 3-0 defeat at home to Spurs in the league cup. You’re right the atmosphere had declined a lot by then although compared to now it was like Barcelona at home in 84 !!
@@scherben8870 that season was our lowest point for yrs tho but true football atmospheres allover were dying then
@@redflag8970 Absolutely. The OT atmosphere has never recovered from the loss of Tommy Doc.
No shit, football was affordable then
I'm not a man utd fan.. But I was 11 years old in 1989...l saw this Michael Knighton guy on Saint and Greavsie on the first day of yhe 1989-90 season . And he even then to me looked like a fraud
What a joke this guy is, how the hell did he get so close to being the owner, chairman whatever , man u to be fair are so professional and powerful what were the club thinking , just one of those crazy moments in history
@distantvoices Never go near _anything_ Swales has been near.
Sir Bobby on the wrong end of a free kick by a young David Beckham!
And seeing the interviews with Knighton and him saying soccer all the time was a red flag straight away!! It’s football in England mate, if you want to say soccer all the time then go to America!! It’s soccer over there!! That was my thoughts at the time.
Do you remember Star Soccer? It was on ATV in the Midlands. During the 70s no less!
FootballGaffesGalore unfortunately I don’t. I didn’t start watching football until 1984. I’ll have to blame my parents for that!!
Michael Knighton looked a fraud in this interview even then
Nik Reece I have to say that didn’t look hard for him!!
‘Soccer’ is a British term, ‘football’ actually originated in USA.
What a farce that turned out to be. The alarm bells should have started ringing as soon as Michael Knighton said the word "soccer"
To be fair Trevor Mc Donald called it soccer too. Soccer was a widely used term in the U.K back then. It was only in the 90s that football became pretty much the only term used.
Rick Oneill. What a crock of shit! Clearly you weren’t around then. Soccer wasn’t a widely used term then or now. Yes we new the word but the average person never ever used it.
It was the establishment word, does nobody remember rugby being called "rugger" by posh cunts?
The word ‘soccer’ was a british term that was primarily used in the 60s.
@@bazd884 A bit extreme Baz, he was only expressing an opinion. I agree though, I've never known it to be called soccer and I'm pushing 60.
He was my landlord at this time.... kicked us out saying he was going to redecorate... nah, he sold the place to support his bid for Man Utd
He kicked his stepmother out on the death of his father ! You stood no chance , scum bag
History repeating itself, I just hope a Fergie and super kids are on there way.
He was a con man. Went to Carlisle. Failed there.
Right on , pure fraudster
I told my uncle in 1989 he's buying man United my uncle was abit to take a sip on his tea 🍵 and he almost spilt and and he said HE'S SKINT 😂
It's time for Manchester United to start winning trophies again. I think they managed that but not much thanks to Knighton. Geez imagine a time when you could buy United for 20m quid! You ain't a fanatic if you call it "soccer" though.
Swiss Tony 😁
Buying a football club ibiza is very much like making love to a beautiful woman. Kick her ball up and pop it in the net
Buying Utd for £40k in the 60s!
Elocution lessons - 9:00 .
Martin Edwards is one lucky person & don’t mention women’s toilets!
Womens toilets., I'd forgot about that.
Wet knees and palms.
Women’s toilets , ask knighton about women’s toilets , predator
Knighton didn’t he loved them especially if they were in their teens
English news calling Football "Soccer".
He keeps saying he's a lifelong football fan yet constantly calls it soccer. Don't believe him sorry 🤔
He had no money hahah
Just outed as a fraudster
Knighton is a good owner
He really isnt look what happened to Carlisle plus also Knighton has a history of having the money that wasn't his
Scammer
@@glennsmith1353 only joking he's a fucking ballbag lol 😂😂🤣
