Aluminium welding is something that i always thought was more of a mig situation, however my feeds have been getting spammed with ads for these low temp aluminium "welding" rods.
Curiosity got to me and i decided to have a crack. I am no pro welder and don't claim to be so if you want to see how to use them like a pro this is not the spot for you, check out some of the other awesome channels here on youtube.
Link here to check them out on Amazon tiny.cc/pfl15y
or check out your local hardware. Not as easy as you might think.

Entertainment value 10/10
I had exactly the same experience, the cheap ones are a con.
Yeah my lack of skills aside you know they are just pumping dross in to them from melted down tinnies
hilarious video dude. FYI anyone looking to braze metal I'll say let the base metal melt the rod. dont hold in in the flame.
Cheers, I honestly was just trying no real knowledge here
He was not using aluminum and steel
crawlmods dad and son what do you think is steel in the vid mate?
@@itsrussagainst on the right hand side of the plate he's trying to weld to the one in the Vice there is a rust spot on the right hand side clearly visible
They are both sections from the same plate. An Aluminium gland plate. These gland plates have to be non Ferris material, so unless you think I Bent and punched 6mm thick stainless or found some shiny aluminium coloured brass...
I get it might appear different in the video, but I am not stupid and know the difference between aluminium and mild steel.
Cheers for watching and commenting
This is exactly how my brazing is going at the moment,
It's nice to see that brazing is not as simple as people make it out to be.
Keep pushing bro we will get there.
you should check out the second part when i get good results
@@Finntheweekendwarrior will do
You should be using a propane torch on the aluminum cans rather than a map gas torch. Map gets an aluminum can way too hot. also for you're thicker pieces of aluminum you want the metal temperature to be around 825 degrees to get a good melt and do not put the torch directly on the rod. Also a light sanding on your work and lights ending on just before you braise will get rid of the oxide layer that prevents bonding.
Great reply, also great username!
Thanks for the review, you definitely changed my mind about this product. I was thinking of trying it for myself but don’t think I’ll waste my money
Some people have had success, I couldn’t.
Doin it wrong
p230sig show us how it’s done
You are suppose to clean the surfaces with a clean wire brush first to remove the oxidation and not suppose to put the rod in the flame
Aussie "beer" is the pits! lol Tastes like water rinsed in old socks.
Show me where to find these old socks
Best comedy routine I've seen in a while 😂🤣😅🤣😂
Thanks for watching
Hey man I thought this was extremely enlightening so I thank you for your attempt but I had a good laugh...no insult intended. I really appreciate you showing the regular guy results...but it was funny at the same time. Have a wonderful day!!!!
Nah it’s perfectly fine, If I was worried I would of tried a hundred times then uploaded
@@Finntheweekendwarrior have a goof one my friend. I'll be subscribing and following you from this point on. Loom forward to more video👍
Thank you.... I might still give it a go, but at least I know what I'm letting myself in for, and wont think "It's just me; why am I always such a failure?" Another vid says first clean with a wire brush and acetone. I'm glad I saw your vid before taking my lovely spun-metal petrol tank and trying to fix my beautiful retro aloy petrol cap to it and ending up in tears!
There is a lot of wisdom in my comment section, lots of it sent in the format of “you stupid do it like this” but when they right they right!
Finn, turn down the heat and pull it away....on the can. 👍🏻
I'd like to know the name or brand of these rods. Ive used the harbor freight rods to fix a broken aluminum cover on a motorcycle and worked well with some practice but it ultimately tarnished over time to a different color than the base aluminum. It appears your stuff is softer and has a flux core. I'd like to try it. Any link?
i got some from amazon, Ebay and my local hardware store. i cant recall the brand, because honestly they all seemed the same.
Didn't see you clean the metal with a stainless steel brush or acetone. Was this done cobber ?
I cleaned it up with a flap disk
@@Finntheweekendwarrior Yeah mate, flat disk won't clean off the oxidisation so it won't stick to the base metal. Needs to be stainless steel.
Don't waste that wood 'third hand', put a grill on it and throw a Roo Burger on that Bar-bie . Lol .
Buddy you have to pre-heat the parent metals to 736 degrees first didn't you watch the dura-fix video?
hilarious, belly larfs all the way thru
Are you gas welding aluminum? Aluminum dissipates heat so quickly, it's quite hard to keep the heat localized enough to make an actual "weld." TIG is the way to go for sure. The process you've got here is brazing.
That would on the top was burning the whole time
🤣 , this guy...
The damn MAPP gas is far too hot
Thanks
When you melted the can. It was too much heat. Were you cant lower the heat on some torches......pull the torch away from the workpeice. The thinner the peice the less heat you want.
anthony thibeault
I don’t think you know what your talking about but if you do then make a video and show us how it’s DONE
Well crap, I should have looked these videos up before I bought mine.
I had success on my second attempt
But who/what/why would anyone need to fill a hole in a coke can?
You haven’t been in on the smuggling booze into places game for long ?
lmao dude
Flux?
sold as "no flux needed" i honestly do not know if it would help, might have to try
They don't work on steal 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 you can see rust ....
No “steal” here, but they produced limited results perhaps practice and better torch would bring better results.
@@Finntheweekendwarrior yes very much so try using flux and heat the aluminum to about 900 Degrees touch the aluminum brazing rod to the aluminum should get better results and should hold fast
Many Fraud companies on CZcams the sell aluminium welding rods.i also bought many country aluminium rods its did not work
I have since had success !
I cant watch any more lol
