I was taught to pat on with one or two finger tips. My friend mom back In high school worked the E.A counter at Bells. She gave us secrets 😂. Back in late 80's early 90's, the primer was white and made by max factor. Then we used pan stick by M.F. I will not joke, our faces didn't move but looked like porcelain. Smooth but so thick in texture.... .plus we were overloaded it at 15-16 years old. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I use a few brightening primers that look like they aid in my natural melanin, they usually have vitamin c too. Anyways, with those i do apply it like moisturizer, it seems to work best. When i use shine reducing primer, im much more careful since its usually more mattifying
and it DOES NOT say GENTLY PUSH into the skin, like Robert did ..which that should be on the directions as well, as he said a lot of people are just letting sit on top of their skin
So I bought this a month or two ago and after seeing this video I decided to try it again. I used it last Sunday. Used this technique, applied my makeup, then went out for the day. It was 90+ degrees outside. I wound up going to work in a building with no air conditioning for a few hours. I was sweating like a pig. I mean my entire shirt was wet and sweat was pouring off the side of my face. My makeup did. Not. Move. It didn't budge. I did pat the sweat off and a little of it came off (it's sweat of course it did) but when I checked my makeup in the mirror it looked exactly the same as when I put it on. It was just...shiny. Bc sweat. I was a hardcore Tatcha primer fan before this. I felt like nothing could top it. I was wrong.
have you seen any help with sweating with this? my usual routine also doesn't budge(except for ofc as you mentioned when i'm trying to blot away sweat/oil some of it comes off) and I haven't ever used a primer lol
Wow I’ll give it another shot. I have a whole tube and I was guessing it doesn’t work because I have to get a different foundation that is “water based” or something. I heard on Marlena Stell that I have to March the base products and my foundation is silicone based.

The instructions literally say to tap it in and then wait 30 seconds, so that you can get more of that grip effect. My all-time favorite primer. I put it in my makeup fridge overnight so it feels like a skin treatment feeling when I apply❤
Thanks for explaining this, Robert! I feel like influencers these days like to put everything directly on their face, often times way too much, which can lead to the products not working how they should.
Robert is the best! Always so helpful ❤ I just rub two pumps in between my fingers and pat in vs rubbing and i never experience pilling. The niacinamide version of this elf primer is even better than the original IMO 😊
Elf isn’t hiding the fact they are duping the most popular high end products while keeping the prices low and they aren’t kidding! They have nailed dupes if they haven’t improved already great products.
I pat my gripping primers into the skin which keeps it from peeling and wait 5-10 mins to let it dry down. I find that this method works best. Different types of primers can require different methods of application. Haven’t tried this specific primer (I use the Dermablend one) but I suspect this method of application would work
I recently got this and did this exactly how you suggested, and I absolutely love it! It helped my makeup stay on (i work outside and its triple digits...so sweat!😅)...now if i can only get my makeup to stay on my nose 😆 🤣
Sorry, I know this is an old comment but just came across this video - have you tried eyeshadow primer on your nose?? It seems to have better staying power! Like Urban Decay eyelid primer potion ♡
I actually bought this primer recently on your recommendation and I've really liked it! I know it's supposed to be a dupe for the MILK Hydrogrip, but I think it might actually be better... 👀

Oh sweetie it's been awhile since I've seen your videos. Life has been lifing and all my extra time to spend on my love for makeup is now gone. Today I bought a few products that make my heart happy although I rarely wear makeup anymore, which is a crime against humanity, and I stumbled upon 1 this review and I didn't realize how much I missed your reviews until I saw this. You're so informative and eloquent, and it made me so happy watching this to see you doing what you do so well. I just needed to tell you how much I adore your reviews and your clips 🤩
Thank you for this video! 😊I’ve learned over the 40+ years of wearing foundation that it is imperative to let each step of your pre-foundation skincare (moisturizer, SPF, primer) dry completely before applying your foundation. It may add a few minutes to your makeup routine but it makes a difference! Also, make sure your foundation type is compatible with the type of primer you’re using-silicone primer with silicone foundation, water based primer with water based foundation.
This primer is great for my very oily skin. I use a gel based moisturizer first and let it sink in for 10 mins, apply 1 pump of this primer only my face and neck using pressing motions and then I spray my face with Charlotte Tilbury Air brushed setting spray after 1 minute of letting the primer set. I then apply a light layer of too faced born this way matte foundation whilst my face is still wet from the setting spray which bleands in beautifully with a damp beauty blender. Set your face with loose string powder (using tapping motions) Then you can apply the rest of your make up & finish off with a light mist of setting spray. My makeup doesn’t move for 10 hours after that even in hot weather. Hope this helps another oily faced person out there 😅💕
thanks for this tip I will try this I've been recently trying my makeup routine with alot lesss primer doing it kinda like this and it's been working!!
Honestly this one is my favorite! My trick is to put about 2-3 pumps into my palms and rub my hands together sorta like warming it up. And then start applying it from the nose outwards and also down the neck in even strokes. And the last step is i pat pat pat around the face. And that works with all my foundations! Also waiting at least 30 seconds or more after application is key!
I love this primwe. I will even wear it without makeuo because i love how glowy and nice it makes my skin look. It also feels really hydrating and refreshing. I use it before work and my makeup is still on 12 hours later.
the directions say to press into the skin, not rub it in and allow 30 sec to dry. one thing the can cause pilling is using too much moisturizer on your face before putting on the primer. literally a pea size amount of moisturizer is needed before foundation and primer. I've found by doing this fixes the pilling. also it may be the moisturizer not agreeing with the primer so try a different kind. hope this helps! much love from Rhode Island, USA!!!!!!
Thanks for this, I use a primer to help with my acne scarring I was noticing it wasn't absorbing as much as I like, but I was "dabbing" it on with my fingers instead of rubbing it in.
I find that wearing a complimentary moisturizer is best so straying from silicone of super rich moisturizers will reduce the glycerins ability to really grip the skin
Or squirt some onto the forefinger and middle finger and then rub it together a little bit, in circular motions (with your other forefinger and middle finger), and then apply it on your face. Works great for me.
Thank you so much, I had a job interview and my foundation started peeling right before and I was panicking but made it through. I knew I was doing something wrong tho because people rave about the primer.
Let’s not forget to let it dry for 30 second BEFORE applying any else on the face, that’s probably why it’s not working for some people. Gotta read the labels and have a clean dry face before applying anything on the face.
Also, look at the first 5 ingredients in the primer and your foundation to see what the base of both products are, more often than not the reason your foundation looks bad is because you’re using clashing products together, you want your foundation to be made up of the same base products as your primer like a water based primer with a water based foundation and so on. I’m a makeup artist myself too and have a level 2 and 3 VTCT diploma in media makeup and haircare and I specialize in makeup for different skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and acne clients.

Hm, I've been hearing that you're supposed to wait for it to dry/set first, which I wasn't automatically aware of. For me too, it works best if you work quickly in blending out the foundation on top, because once it sets with the foundation and you to keep blending it out, it'll coagulate and look blotchy-splotchy. Also I will give a couple examples of which products worked for me with this primer and which did not. My Maybelline 24 hour skin tint doesn't typically play well with this product, as both dry down rather quickly. A very small, "no makeup" makeup look-amount of Loreal's Hyaluronic Tinted Serum mixed with Tower 28's Sunny Days Tinted Sunscreen (for UV protection and a dewy glow finish) blended quickly and very thoroughly seems to be what works best for me, at the current moment (results will vary).
Primers need to match foundation and serums. If it's silicone based you have to match even your sunscreen or at least wait a good 10 to 15 minutes before applying. So many people don't understand when they use silicone based skincare, then use water based sunscreen and for makeup like foundation choose an oil based. Then wonder why it slides, pills, smears, patches..etc.
Yeah i just use a water based concealer and powder on top of it no wonder it looked patchy 😅 I like the C Bright putty primer more as i dont need to think about a strategic primer application and helps blend out my Etude House cheek tint beautifully.
What’s usually the cause is using a silicone based ( anhydrous) moisturizer and then trying to apply a water based product on top it’s like mixing oil and water
Some people just like cream moisturise type of primers that’s what I like I mean gel is amazing to but as some people are saying they require more time to even out and than having to wait for it to dry the all just too much of a headache. I don’t have anything against gel primer they are the best and they help to grip make up on and keep there but my skin is Far to dry and patchy plus I suffer acne as well…so I swear by any cream type for me that can hydrate oh and primers that glow like tinted glowy moisturiser
Is this good for dry skin? Do you have any recommendations for primers that hydrate or leave a dewy finish that aren’t silicone feeling and actually work to make makeup last?
But also, it aint exactly the best for dry skin. It's not bad, just make sure to put moisturizer and sunscreen or whatever products you use for skincare before it if you have dry skin.
