- Hi Folks,
In this video, I am sharing the results of the Glass Gem Corn harvest where I planted different colored kernels and tracked them. I planned 16 plants each of 8 different colors and the results indicate that there is a correlation from the color of cob to the color of kernels.
Hope you enjoy the video!!
Awesome video! Just wanted to add that im pretty sure that the pollen parent impacts the color of the individual kernal. It would be interesting to self pollenate one ear on some plants and cross them with another plant you had also self pollenated and see what the diferece in colors would be.
Very cool to know. We planted a bunch of glass gem this year from 3 ears we bought at the pumpkin stand last year. We have had an excellent crop with all sorts of different colors. I will experiment next year like you did and see what happens. Awesome video
I'm glad you did this I was going to expiriment this year
❤❤❤❤ que bonitas mazorquitas 🤏🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
If I had not found this video I would have had to do that experiment too.
Great info EXACTLY what i was looking for!
Thank you for your research here. Good information!
Very cooool!! Thanks for experimenting and sharing!
Thank you so much! I was thinking about trying to line breed some of the lighter blue colored ones over time and get bluer and bluer corn. Now I know that this is at least *possible*
Good luck!
@@GrowWithMeUsa what happened? No more videos?
Way to go! So cool!
Wow, I can't wait to try this experiment out too!
Yeah SCIENCE
Loved this video, thanks for doing it!
It's beautiful and the colors make it look nutritious.
The natives and mexicans put this kind of corn through a process to bring out b vitamins and niacin I beleive. It is more nutritious after and creats hominy and then ground into masa for dried and ground into meal for grits. Look up corn soup with wood ash or traditional masa recipes. It makes the dry hard kernels easier to absorb and healthier.
Thank you! I've just sown these this season and this is fantastic information.
Hay dude what part of the world you in ? Thanks this was really good imfo
I am in suburbs of Philadelphia, USA.
@@GrowWithMeUsa cool 👍 well good luck to you and keep up the videos 😊 I'm a horticulturist specialized in grafting fruit trees and pruning citrus trees
Does the pollen from adjacent plants affect that years cob colours?
Does anyone know if the kernels start out white? I can’t find any info on the growth stages of glass gem corn and couldn’t help myself and peaked at one of the ears I have growing and it looks white😕
Is this available in india
If you would keep it going the colors should improve
With these results would you suggest planting all one color seeds in separate plots or mixing the colors in one plot?
What’s your end goal? Do you want the colorful corn or one color predominant? I would plant all colors intermixed for colorful corn.
@@GrowWithMeUsa I'm more into preservation of the species so not sure if separating then remixing the colors would help or not.
Wonder someone here knows more about that and comment.
