    My dad was the creator of Medieval destruction. He built that robot with his bare hands with an engine from me and my sister’s old battery powered jeep we had when we were little. Coming back to these videos after he passed away from terminal cancer. Thank you for sharing the video. I was around 5-6 years old when he was competing❤️ he won tenth place in the finals and went undefeated in Pittsburgh before moving onto the finals. I sometimes think about building one in memory of him but I wouldn’t know where to start.

    Just because it's a full body spinner doesn't mean it's a ripoff of Ziggo. You're using the same logic as the people who say "Oh, it's a crusher so it's a Razer ripoff," and "Oh, a robot with a flywheel? It's a Hypno-Disc ripoff."

    the spinning one is just a more unstable version of ziggo from battlebots

    its a self spinner which is a rather popular design more than just ziggo....

    @bohrokthunder Did you not see ziggo vs whacker? Ziggo's blade speed is 140mph, he is the 2 time lightweight champion, and he causes a whole bunch of carnage. Check out the video because it is awesome and possibly check out ziggo vs shrike. More carnage! Either way I still love robot carnage!

    well that lack in stability. You get a tri pod robot with spining legs. That should make it invicible.

      @microscopic Hornet Likely he's talking about the "powered weapon" rule that's infested most of these competitions, which pretty much outlaws a pure wedge-bot, which IS the most effective counter for a spinner, more so if it's heavily armored. As a result, the meta is now heavily biased in favor of spinners, and for many reasons: it's a "fire-and-forget" weapon, and it needs no real aiming skills to use effectively, it offers extremely high kinetic force. In terms of use in combat, it's basically the easy mode for robot combat. The REAL challenge is engineering the thing to withstand its own weapon force, which is precisely why heavy armor and wedges are its counters. You know....Newton's Third Law, and all that. Even monsters like Ziggo have been beaten by armor. Full-body spinners are extremely vulnerable to being flipped over, and their only real way to self-right is by using the extended angled pole you see here and on many others now (which Ziggo DID start using). Another big engineering problem is making sure that the spinning weapon, no matter what it may be, is properly balanced....or you get what happened to Apex in the Tenth Wars.

    what are the blades on Ground Zero's spinner made of?

  • @Slayr231
    @Slayr231 Před 13 lety

    @bohrokthunder Ziggo in my opinion is better than zero. Ziggo's driver waited for the right moment to attack before attacking and had some amazing hits (Ziggo vs Wacker for example). Don't get me wrong, I like zero but I disagree with your opinion and I ask you. Why do you think zero is better than ziggo?

      @Ran Ng You would be very surprised how engaging a match like that is. I submit to you, Behemoth vs. Apollo in the Tenth Wars (Robot Wars).

    • @2097Pyros
      @2097Pyros Před 5 lety +1

      @Ran Ng So, something like DUCK!, then. Even that has appeal in how much punishment they can take, as well as the aforementioned driving game. Tombstone had to resort to taking out its wheels to win because DUCK! is so goddamned durable.
      And for all the pure-wedge's effectiveness against full-body and horizontal spinners, they are decently countered by vertical flywheels and drums, so it's not like the sport ever needed a dedicated rule to effectively outlaw the "boring" wedge. There were weapon types that could handle them just fine, and keeping them in allows for an evolving meta. What we have now is like playing Rock-Paper-Scissors, but not allowing Rock. OF COURSE everyone's going to play Scissors now!
      Ultimately, the two things they need to do, if they're not going to do away with the powered weapon rule, is to go back to the old system of scoring, where all categories were weighed equally, and to make the Battlebox hazards as effective and as frequent as they were then.
      When you have Donald Hutson, THE premiere control fighter, give up the jaws and take up a flywheel, you KNOW something's been changed for the worse. THAT is what needs to be fixed in robot combat sports.
