    I mowed my yard for a long time with a 12hp version of this tractor and a 48" deck and it cut beautifully. I upgraded to a 520h with the same size deck and it cut just the same, did a bit better in higher grass then the 12hp but overall best upgrade for mowing was hydro over the 8 speed. I just upgraded to a 60" Zero turn so now im probably going to sell the 520 as the 12 is so much simpler to keep for garden use and overall use than the more complicated machine with the Onan that likes maintenance. My new zero turn cuts AMAZING, but I still think the wheelhorse deck cut better.

    Finally someone who understands that people don’t want to see massive price tags so mtd has to make cheap products to make any money but you are right those are some heavy reliable old tractors! Even the older wheel horse lawn tractors are, compared to today’s lawn tractors, extremely well built.

    That looks good. I think I'm still partial to the International Harvesters though. Hopefully I'll find another one soon.

    Can you help me with belt replacement?

    • @shedman7323
      @shedman7323  Před rokem +1

      There are 3 belts, one for the transaxle, one for the “mule” drive that goes from the engine to the deck, and the deck belt. Your best bet is the Red Square forum. It’s been covered there many times!

      I got that material on eBay. Just look for Wheel Horse brake bands and shop around!

    Yes sir, One of the worst mule setups going. Dont think I would use that for mowing. Pull a yard trailer or plow with it. I have and old one in the back of the garage. Not sure of the number but its a hydro. Might have to get it out this summer. Peace......

      Overall, this machine is about perfect for what I have to mow. I have lots of hills and uneven ground that I mow and the newer stamped frame mowers with weak transaxles just don’t hold up.
      This one has a 36” deck so it doesn’t bite off more than it can chew.
