    I have to say that, while I envy the opportunity that you have to do this thru-hike that my artificial knees (and doctor) say I really can't consider doing anymore, I even more envy the real-time views that you have been showing us -particularly in the last several days in the Sierras. I fully know from personal experience that these sorts of video views don't do the actual scene justice (even though your video views are really spectacular). From the views that you have shown us, I'm guessing it would take me a full season just to get through the Sierras because of all the lengthy stops I would need to make to take in the majesty. Thanks for taking me along; I'm really enjoying the trip...

    The first little blue flowers are Stickseed (later it has seeds that stick in your socks). The “new” yellow flower with big leaves is Mule Ears (you’ll see Lots of these the next several weeks), and that last bunch of low purple-y flowers are phlox. Taller bright pink are mountain pride.
    And good job on your water crossings!!

    It's not just Ramsey's height that helps her, she also has a strong and stable technique for river crossings, poles upstream, leaning into the current and moving sideways. I'm loving your videos and wish you all well for enjoying the rest of the trail.

    You should look into a tenkara fly fishing setup. It’s very lightweight and easy to learn. The pole expands from like 2’ for the pack to 10’ for fishing. And they’re not so expensive. You could use it for the rest of California through Oregon and Washington. Set up another CZcams channel for fishing on the PCT. 🤣

      @larkangel6593 Před měsícem +1

      Word of advice, take both a tenkara and std spinner.
      Tenkara is awesome for running water (for which they were developed in Japan) and really close in fishing.
      But when you see large(r) fish jumping/feeding out deeper, purity goes out the window.
      Besides, it's usually windy, so you're gonna want to fling a lure way out there anyway
      I typically use 2lb test, but I've found lakes on SEKI where the fish can break it off regardless of drag setting.
      Zoo, come back and explore; you guys would love it. I'll give you a tip/hint: go up Shepard, go x-country either side of the Kern

    • @SkepticalRaptor
      @SkepticalRaptor Před měsícem

      @@larkangel6593 I think that two fishing poles add a lot of weight, and the spinning rod requires a very heavy reel. Plus, and this is important, it's banned in a lot of wilderness areas. You need to use barbless hooks, flies, or natural bait.

    • @larkangel6593
      @larkangel6593 Před měsícem

      @@SkepticalRaptorweight is relative
      If I'm traveling strictly to fish, I'm taking a pan, oil, etc to eat 1 or 2 anyway (the rest c&r of course)
      Besides, an ultralight 6' 2-4lb set up is super light in its own respect
      You might want to check the fishing regs - no bait, barbless artificial lures (fly or spin)

      @@larkangel6593 Sorry, but you're not thinking like a PCT hiker. This conversation is inane.

      It’s Coleman Botanicals - Oil of Lemon and Eucalyptus (30%). Not sure what the other 70% is composed of. The mosquitos barely even come close after I rub it on!

    Is the upload date a week after the film date? Just curious because I'm headed to there this weekend for a section hike with some of my family, and I'm trying to judge the creek crossing and snow levels. Thanks, I enjoy the videos!

    5:57 was that a fish 🐟? In the waterfall, something passes by her feet to the right

    • @blueboats
      @blueboats Před měsícem

      It sort of looked like it, but going downstream like that is not normal fish behavior, it's more likely it was a chunk of bark or other debris
