I think that when he says Kendrick is "switching up", I think he means it in the context of somebody "arming up". Basically, he's saying that Kendrick is pulling out switches on Drake, and being out of the character that people usually associate him with, which is that black empowerment and revolutionary image from To Pimp A Butterfly.
