    You guys have honestly saved me again!!! I was using the ‘original’ sram video to work out how to pair the components and it wasn’t straight forward and the made it confusing! You guys say the rear is the master and link everything to it. EASY AS!!! You guys make everything so easy and simple to understand :D

    I've got to say this is better presented than the official how to video by SRAM which Bikeradar has posted today as well, nice job GCN

    For anyone struggling to 'dial in' SRAM E-TAP a few helpful hints I've learnt: (1) The set up for Mid cage varies slightly to short cage rear derailleur. (2) B tension is critical to both mid and short cage rear derailleur (3) for each position of the rear derailleur on the rear cassette 'micro shift' is available. Unlike a barrel adjustment on a mechanical system you can fine tune per cog. (4) The position of the front derailleur is crucial too high and it will over shift regardless of correctly setting the stops.

    • @TundralTV
      @TundralTV Před 2 lety

      I doubt I'll get an answer but I'll describe my issue anyways:
      I'm trying to index my rear derailleur. The shift from smallest to second smallest cog rattles and take a few spins to shift. OK so I need to index that cog inboard.
      When I do the adjustment at gear 10 (from largest cog) gears 3-5 start catching on their bigger cogs. OK so I adjust outboard on those cogs so it doesn't rub and catch. However, when I do that the the issue with shifting from gear 11 -> 10 becomes choppy again.
      If your third point is true then how could behavior be possible? Even if my RD hanger was really crooked and something was wrong with the cassette the adjustments at gears 3-5 shouldn't have any effect if what you've said is true

    Front mech tip: On my bike the smallest wedge was just a bit too small but the medium wedge was way too big and would not fit. Cutting off the end of a zip tie made for the perfect shim for the smallest wedge! Fits better now and the front mech has much less flex.

    I know I'm never probably going to be able to justify the cost of a wireless groupset like this, but I like how slick this setup is! I imagine in years time it will trickle down (or that's the hope) to more affordable groupsets that won't make me feel like a poser.

    so- the mechanic from Sram is in a video talking about how to set up eTap and then GCN does one? Thats not copying schedules, thats following news, developments and updates, and keeping their viewing public swiftly and reliably informed and educated about the latest things in the media or on the market, in their own informative, enjoyable and funny way- its kind of what they do....

  • @cplca
    @cplca Před 8 lety +3

    Not convinced about any type of E setups. I run the regular Sram red double tap on my bike and it is responsive enough for me. I just couldn't trust battery operated components on a multi-day ride, plus that would make for one more thing to remove from the bike every time you stop. There are quite a few very efficient front wheel hub dynamo on the market these days, why don't parts company take advantage of this and come up with self sufficient components. With the price of some of those bikes, they should all come with basic setup like integrated front and rear lighting, speedo and gear shifters and derailleur that are self sustained. There would still be some room for maybe a few integrated usb ports to charge what ever could use charging.

    better video, than the instructions provided by sram

  • @bikeanddogtripsvirtualcycling

    I reckon in about 10 years from now the pro peleton wont even need to change gears as each rider's statistics, eg power and cadence etc will be monitored in real time and either a team manager or even an automated system will send a signal to the bikes and auto change gear so that the most suitable one is being used. This could go even furrther if the rout and terrain is known so that gear adjustments coulod be made a second or two beforehand.
    just my thoughts, but then again who suspected that sram would bring this out back in 2006?

    Hi Simon, I bought an eTap group after watching this video.
    Everything is brand new.
    I installed everything on me bike, it was cool at first.
    Until when I was about to tune those gears.
    I cant seem to find a solution to shift the RD from 11cog ---> 12cog. The RD moves and chain just doesnt catch the 12th cog.
    I needed to shift twice so the chain would go to the next cog (13) and the rest of the gears works just fine. Even when I shift down back to the 11th cog.
    I tried the micro adjust, it does solve the 11--->12 cog issue, BUT another SIMILAR problem occurs on 15th cog ---> 14th cog. It cant shift down. So its either one of the gears wont work. I cant solve both.
    Been trying with it for days and i am lost.
    Can you by any chance advise me?
    Thanks!
    JL

    I managed to get my eTap to not work straight out of the box. Paired everything up (numerous times), everything rapidly blinks green going through the pairing process.....front and rear doesn't shift at all. I can press the function buttons and "manually" shift both derailleurs in either direction, but no dice with the shifters. I'm thinking that pressing a function button to shift while I'm riding is slightly more inconvenient than say, mechanical shifting.....as is waiting at least another week to get a replacement, when I already waited a week and a half to get this. Now I remember why I went back to Shimano 2 years ago.....SRAM still sucks.

    What brand are those nifty color coded allen keys you're using Si?

      Asking the same question. PB Swiss or Wera, they the only sets I seen in rainbow colours.

      +nightfly222 They are indeed the PB Swiss ones.

    I think Si needs to work on his pointing at the end of the video. He missed every box.

    Regarding the rear derailleur B-tension. I followed this video and it was way off. Then I followed SRAMs video which sets the B-tension with the chain on and it was perfect. Just in case anyone else has the same problem

    So is there a disc brake specific setup for it or are you limited to cables for the shifters?

    • @123456bmx
      @123456bmx Před 8 lety

      Mechanical discs only,they are working on a hydraulic version but they won't tell you if you ask.

      +123456bmx thanks, gives me a bit longer to save up then. Never using rim brakes again!

      +TheAegisClaw Couldn't agree more. If you're listening out there Sram, Shimano, Campag, I'm saving up for a wireless, hydraulic disc brake groupset and I bet I'm not the only one...

    Cool, what is the weight savings compared SRAM Red mechanical?, I have an Evo-Hi Mod with Red , must save something considering no cables, etc

      +jim dandy you already got the lightest groupset with one of the lightest frame. Your bike might be under 6.8 even with alloy wheels ;)

      +Simon Rano Actually its under 6 KG, 13.00 pounds with pedals and computer. Its got Enve 45 classic tubulars with 240 hubs, they are 1120 grams, Enve stem, bars and seatpost, Sella Italia SLR seat and naturally the newest Cannondale 2 crank- Enve now making carbon hubs which would cut another 100 grams but they're not cheap, 1350.00 a set not including labor

      That's a dream set you have ! up I got 3 cannondales (six, caad and caadX) all together they don't worth your equipment. By the way I downgraded the caad to 10 speed shimano for cross compatibility between my three bikes and differents wheelsets. I dream of Vision metron wheels but they don't come cheap neither. Is you supersix still on external routing ? I would choose external mechanical all the way for easy maintenance

    What if you don’t have shifters, just the blips? Where are the function buttons?
