Yeah you never know if or when they will salute, although the regular boats tend to do the same thing each time.

Can someone tell me the meaning of 3 longs and one short as opposed to one long and 2 shorts?
3 long and 2 short is a master salute which is given for special occasions or if a VIP is on board. 3 L 1 S is probably just a goof up.
It's a toss-up between the Alpena and the Blough.
The boat at 3:29 reminds me of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
She should. She is hull# 297 from the Great Lakes Engineering
Works at River Rouge, Michigan (GLEW). The Fitz was hull #301.

Sad that she was scrapped in '85.

She's been parked in Superior Wisconsin since 2009. Not sure if the Ryerson will ever sail again.

No, just a fleetmate, Sykes built in 1949 and Ryerson in 1959. Ryerson is a bit bigger.

I like this but I'm glad I don't live here! The horns at all hours of the day and night would get really annoying after a short time! Imagine working the night shift and trying to sleep during all this!
We don't sleep much anyway what with refineries blowing up and all.
