    I love Film Photography Project. I like both the Plus-x and Double-x. I like the Plus-x a bit more. I also really like their Tasma NK-2 and Retrochrome 320.

    RIP Ollie the FPP pug! Casual Photophile just started a film of the month club where they are sending out a different roll of 35mm each month. Then all of the members will shoot it and compare results, development techniques, etc. (January was Kodak p3200 as an example). Seems like it might be right up your alley considering this 35mm effort of yours.

    The Fuji 100 might be the one known as Fuji Industrial. Also comes in 400 but that's hard to find now as they've been discontinued. They're both really nice.

    The Eastman XX is some dope stuff. Great cinema feel and range.
    I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the 1.6. That's gonna be a challenge.

    Agfa APX 100 is imo the best black and white film out there. Really sharp! Too bad they don't make it for medium format anymore

    I'm looking forward to seeing your results! Interestingly, my new year's resolution also involved film, but it's shooting all the film that's in my fridge and random old cameras. So far I've done a few rolls and a highlight was finishing a roll started in 2011 and seeing some "new" pictures of my mom who passed away a few years ago. Start of a roll in 2011 - last shots in 2019 - a uniquely film experience.

    I did this for about 5 years, tried every film you could imagine, Agfa (not Agfaphoto), Konica, Maco, Forte, Rollei, Ferrania, even found some Samsung and Mitsubishi (which ended up being something else)! This was right at the tail end of the time that all these films were available, 2004-2005. That's how I learned what my favorites were.
    The new Agfa(photo) is definitely factory rejected Fuji or even Kodak
    The "Kodak 100" is Gold, their consumer offering from the '90s. It will be grainier and less saturated than what they have out now. Supposedly this was Annie Leibovitz's favorite film.
    The Fuji NHG II 800 became NPZ 800 which then morphed into Pro 800z, which is also gone.
    Any genuine Agfa APX is dope....be sure to process it in Rodinal!
    You're gonna have great fun!

      I'd definitely love to shoot a Leica. This series is going to use a Canon a1 with a 50mm 1.4 FD lens. Maybe after I finally buy a hasselblad, I'll get a Leica. 😎

    Plus-X was an ISO 125 film that Kodak sold alongside Tri-X but was discontinued a while ago. If it is ISO 6, then it’s super-expired film stock someone found somewhere.
    Double-X is Kodak’s motion picture film stock, used to film Schindler’s List, among others.

    This is a great idea! I am really looking forward to following this project.
    Also, I think you should check out Orwo N74 and UN54 which is amongst my favorites. They sell it on FPP. Lomography just relabeled the same film under the name Berlin Kino and Potsdam Kino.
    It's a great German BW cinefilm.

    Hi Erik, Happy New Year. I want to learn more this year.
    Excited on the film variety bag. Thx
    Question,
    what's the difference between speeds? You mentioned 200 speed and 800 speed. Especially black and white.
    Are the exposure different between black and white vs color. What does over exposure do to BW films. Haven't used them before.
    For the channel: will you be using the same equipment / setting for 2 to 3 shots to compare film to film as a finally ?

    • @ErikWahlstromPhoto
      @ErikWahlstromPhoto  Před 5 lety

      Exposure should be the same bw vs color. I'll be shooting all this film on a Canon A1 with the 50mm 1.4 (at least for now).

      Thanks Erik. Love the show and excited to see the different films. my daughter graduated with a photograph degree. You really help us a lot in understanding the old as well as new cameras Including the box camera and canon 35mm. I watch all your CZcams shows so I know what's she us talking about. Especially that show with the canon 35mm manual light with semi film load. You were right it's a brick. But the photos it produces look amazing. . I think it's a fs1. I Even found the battery you reccomend to make the light meter work. And the double exposures. Keep up the good work.

    Agfa Vista 400 has really nice warm colors, especially reds and oranges. A great everyday film but was discontinued last year. Rumor was it was produced by Fuji.
    If the Fuji 800 film is what I think it is, it was used by wedding photos alongside 400H. Beautiful colors; also recently discontinued. :-(

    As a long term project, this looks like fun since you have some film which we do not see much, if at all. That ISO 1.6 is probably a document recording or duplicating film. Unhappily, FPP seems to sell at least 4 films which might be brother to this roll (very low speed), but are materially different as to development. Get out the tripod, set your meter to ISO 25 and add four stops of exposure. Oh for the days of Kodak Tech Pan.

    • @StuartHerrington
      @StuartHerrington Před 5 lety

      I don't have much knowledge, but would also say that the 1.6 film is likely a reproduction negative. Like for documentation or copying another negative. I'm right in saying a negative of a negative becomes as positive (in black and white). I think that was an academic technique for duplication

    Yo Erik -- this project sounds like fun! Will you shoot these films on the same camera/lenses for comparison, or also test out your 35mm cameras at the same time? Eastman was named for George Eastman who founded Kodak (sometimes called "Eastman-Kodak") -- at different times in the company's history cinema film was branded "Eastman." It looks like a good chunk of that film that you received must be expired -- some of those have not been made in a few or more years. So -- will you shoot it all at "box speed" and then adjust when processing to make up for the age/expiredness of the films? Or just shoot and develop at box speed?

      The actual Agfa was closed down 15 years ago. The later films sold as "Agfaphoto" are just rebranded stocks from some other manufacturer - most recently Fuji. So while the Agfaphoto brand is discontinued in reality we're not losing anything.
