City planners (and I use the term loosely) will build on every square inch of available land with no concern for transportation infrastructure. It's ridiculous. Been here for 50 years and it just gets worse because of lack of restraint and foresight.
I wasn’t actually considering Tampa. Too congested and expensive now. I was looking at Polk County in central Florida. A few smaller towns there that aren’t super expensive

Those numbers are amazing but as a Floridian who has lived in Tampa for 30 years it is amazing how expensive it is to live here with Florida income. Native Floridians are being priced out of Florida being replaced by work from home transplants. My son and his wife who both were born in Florida, attended the University of Florida and became teachers decided last year to move out of state because as teachers they could not make enough money to buy a home in an average, not great or even safe community. They both drove 30-45 minutes daily from an apartment they could affords for the past 5 years. So, Florida has lost two teachers both of whom won teacher of the year awards and had multiple state and National recognition as teachers for their subjects. Just Sad.

Cost, same for me. It will be a miracle if I can figure out a way. A friend winters in some small trailer type home in Holiday, but that kind of home doesn't appeal to me. Plus I think the area probably isn't too swift either.

I think his numbers sound fairly accurate if you're feeding a family of 5 and just moved here and needed to buy everything new. If you have 5 people in your household you have to be making well over 100k to be able to afford it here. Hands down. Obviously, native Floridians who got locked in at low interest rates, low home values, homesteaded their houses (which basically saves your butt on getting ripped off on property taxes) are having a much easier time and can afford to make less. But things here have gotten wild and Floridian employers are still paying 2017 wages. It's gotten significantly better since the Pandemic, but it's still muuuuuuuuch lower than other states. Especially for jobs that are essential like nursing & teaching, which is why we're having an insane shortage on teachers healthcare workers. So, really bad place to have kids or to get sick. And the insurance rates are insane, I've heard of people getting hit with $1000s of dollars extra in price hikes in their yearly policies. If they decide to even renew hou. It's because the hurricanes are making the companies run for the hills. And the ones that stay know that they can take full advantage of you. Not pay out claims or fight you tooth and nail over small amounts. It's bad. I would suggest staying in NY, not because "We're full" like how all the other Florida folk say. But because it's legitimately overvalued and investing here is akin to betting on red on a roulette table. 50/50 chance says you're gonna take a fat hit on your property value and end up with nothing or come out victorious.
In 2019 my friend moved to Orlando with husband, her two teenagers sons, and a beautiful dog. According to her their cost of living in 2023 were close to $100k. Their cars and house insurance tripled since 2019. 😢
When I first moved to Ft Myers in 1990 I rented a nice two bedroom apartment for $450. Today that same unit rents for $1500. I left Florida in 2018 and I guess I enjoyed it when it was affordable-it is no longer as wages have not kept up. I retired early to the Philippines where I now own a nice house in a gated community and live extremely well for $2,500 a month.
I live in Florida. Orlando greater area. Which is growing and expanding at a ridiculous pace. You cannot be me and make what I make and live here right now. Insurance for home and car went up and property taxes. Omg. Probably 3k more a year since last year and expected to increase more by 40% next year. I would cry, but it doesn't pay the bills.
I can confirm the car payments. Just bought a 2023 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and my payments are around $670/month car insurance went from around $900/year to $2500/year.

I bought my place on the cheap. But, had to fix up my whole bedroom after a flood. Insurance only gave me $3500 to fix it. But, to make it right, I spent another $5000 more to make it right. Then had to replace a lot of things. After my loved ones pass on, I may not stay here. On disability, I can’t live comfortably. Everything has gone up. Especially insurance and HOA fees. You can’t rent anything for less. Insurance companies insure our building for a lot. Because, it’s old. If I had money, I would get something new and have amenities, which I don’t have. I also would get a new car. I can’t touch any of these. I own now. But, I used to rent brand new places and they had amenities. You can’t touch rent. I own my place and the HOA fees are much less than rent. But, you have to pay for all of the repairs. I’m on Obamacare, and it’s expensive for me and my hospital bills are high. With schizoaffective disorder, health is $1000/month. Because with disability, you have a waiting period to get onto Medicare and can’t have anything to get onto Medicaid and food stamps. I also don’t like my TV service. I really would do better if I had less responsibility. I will see what will happen, later. People with my disability usually have no friends and are loners. So, we end up homeless. I go to a psychiatrist. He can send me to a social worker who can help me figure out what to do.

If you are paying $3,500 homeowners' insurance, that's an incredible deal, a rate from ten years ago. Double that is getting to be more like the average. Be prepared for a fat increase, 30/40/50% soon. (Which after you pay, they may well drop your coverage entirely a few months later. Lots of that happening.). For those looking to rent, these costs do ultimately get passed on to the renter.
Lived here in FL for 22 years... cost of living is so high not even professionals can't afford it anymore. Things are so expensive, income still the same. If you are an engineer asking for $40hr is too much. So think before coming, it's going to be more expensive. My insurance dropped me 6 months of 1 year policy, now I am paying more than 3k house insurance, property tax went up $500. And car insurance is on the rise. Should I keep going?

I live in Dublin City Ireland. I’ve just paid insurance on our €450,000 home. It was €277 for the year. Our private health insurance is €55 a week for myself and my wife.I could go on but my god. We will most likely rent for the first six months to a year until we sell our current home and learn more about the area. 20 years Florida resident....they are building all around no matter what, draining every single swamp and now when it rains is flooded everywhere, property taxes and insurance super high, gas prices super high, flood insurance and health insurances..insane...they are killing the working class....................
There a lot of people who making more money than this. Or able to buy a home in cash, dramatically reducing expense. Remember, these are averages and medians. You can do it for less or More depending on your lifestyle. Thanks for contributing to the conversation and watching.
Yeah, but the homeowners insurance & car insurance will well makeup that difference. People in FL are getting decimated by insurance property hikes. Some people (depending on the property) are getting hit with thousands of dollar price hikes. Like, it's not uncommon to hear someone paying $5,000 - $10,000 to insure a home in a beachy city. It's insane. And you don't benefit from that at all, unlike how you might with the public services state taxes provide. In FL, you are on your own if you become homeless or unemployed.
@@picklechips1483 My insurance for a condo is less than $1K per year; the insurance for the whole building is paid by the monthly HOA fee, which is quite reasonable. Between insurance, HOA, property taxes and all utilities, I am paying well under $1K/month to live at the beach in South Florida. It's a beautiful life.
He’s exaggerating! I own a home in New York City and pay less! No way it’s more expensive in Florida than New York City! Eat at home . Why eat out if you go to Public’s and Costco! Must be wasting food.
I am not exaggerating. In the video, I explained what the “average is according to the article” and what we “choose” to spend on food. We don’t spend our money on tech and toys. We prefer to eat as clean as possible with fresh organic fruits and vegetables, and free range protein’s as much as possible. We also choose to eat out at least once a week. It’s an experience and a treat. The greatest thing about this country is, as long as it’s legal, moral, and ethical, you get to decide.
I don’t think he is exaggerating, living in FL expenses for our family is around $450-$500 month in the summer just for electric not other utilities and our house is a pretty average house size with a small pool,$1200 month for groceries, not eating out, and not eating all organic.
No. I am on ssi and make more than double that and I’m struggling. I own my home outright in Pasco county (just north of Tampa) once I pay all my bills I have about $400 left a month if I’m lucky that’s if nothing breaks or crazy expenses don’t come as they always do. Unless you have 2 adult incomes I wouldnt try it.

You’re welcome! The cost of has definitely increased, but overcrowding is it an issue. 80% of population lives on or near the coast. Florida is huge!

Yeah, but the homeowners insurance & car insurance will well makeup that difference. People in FL are getting decimated by insurance property hikes. Some people (depending on the property) are getting hit with thousands of dollar price hikes. Like, it's not uncommon to hear someone paying $5,000 - $10,000 to insure a home in a beachy city. It's insane.
And you don't benefit from that at all, unlike how you might with the public services state taxes provide. In FL, you are on your own if you become homeless or unemployed.
@@picklechips1483 My insurance for a condo is less than $1K per year; the insurance for the whole building is paid by the monthly HOA fee, which is quite reasonable. Between insurance, HOA, property taxes and all utilities, I am paying well under $1K/month to live at the beach in South Florida. It's a beautiful life.

It totally depends on where you move to. The average rent in Tampa Bay is around $1,800 a/mo. I’ve seen people get one bedrooms for $1,000 or $4,000.

He’s exaggerating! I own a home in New York City and pay less! No way it’s more expensive in Florida than New York City! Eat at home . Why eat out if you go to Public’s and Costco! Must be wasting food.
I am not exaggerating. In the video, I explained what the “average is according to the article” and what we “choose” to spend on food.
We don’t spend our money on tech and toys. We prefer to eat as clean as possible with fresh organic fruits and vegetables, and free range protein’s as much as possible.
We also choose to eat out at least once a week. It’s an experience and a treat.
The greatest thing about this country is, as long as it’s legal, moral, and ethical, you get to decide.
I don’t think he is exaggerating, living in FL expenses for our family is around $450-$500 month in the summer just for electric not other utilities and our house is a pretty average house size with a small pool,$1200 month for groceries, not eating out, and not eating all organic.
I just went to Costco today, didn’t buy much, just enough to cook for the week, spent $467. We are a family of three. We do spend $2k a month in food.

Honestly, I don’t think so.
No. I am on ssi and make more than double that and I’m struggling. I own my home outright in Pasco county (just north of Tampa) once I pay all my bills I have about $400 left a month if I’m lucky that’s if nothing breaks or crazy expenses don’t come as they always do. Unless you have 2 adult incomes I wouldnt try it.
