- The incredible global success of ‘Black Panther’ has placed Africa at the epicentre of contemporary popular culture. For centuries, this continent has been eroded and exploited by the forces of colonialism and globalisation. Through the fictional nation of Wakanda, the film gives us a glimpse of how Africa might have prospered had these forces never existed. Although we can never change our past, ‘Black Panther’ shows us how important it is to protect and preserve our African-ness now and for future generations.
We jumped at the opportunity to incorporate a Wakanda-inspired episode into our #BreakingBallet series. It features the indomitable Monika Cristina, Kitty Phetla and Claudia Monja as Dora Milaje warriors, laying down a challenge to any would-be adversaries of African culture. Why not book to see them live on stage in Carmen at Joburg Theatre from until Sunday 15 April?
I JUST SEARCHED FOR KITTY PHETLA AND THIS IS WHAT I GOT !!!! **** I AM A FAN OF KITTY PHETLA ALL THE WAY FROM JAMAICA
Whooooop! Whooooop! Thank you John. We hope you have enjoyed her work and the company! Thanks for your kind words!
I absolutely love this, I recently started ballet and aside from the obvious physical challenge, my greatest challenge yet has been to find people that look like me. There isn't much representation for African ballerinas. I hope to one day be the change that we need. Keep up the magnificent work, you have no idea how much this means to many young black dancers! xo from Toronto
Der Beste!!!!!!!!!

My friends black daughter in capetown is a ballerina.i hear though of how they shouldn't have a big behind and all and at 8yra old she is already so self conscious , but she is sooooo cute and very talented in ballet.I stumbled upon this today and will show her mom.to show her representation and someone she can look upto.Amazing.i always had a liking for ballet ever since I was young but I'm 40 now 😆

Who is the director/dop/editor
We were lucky enough to work with some great people from the agency TBWA/Hunt Lascaris
Love dancers, choreography and cinematography; not the music. Sorry, just a taste matter 💕
No! No! No! You have just ruined this heavenly dance routine! This music doesn't compliment the dance! The choreography is afro centric, but the music is not! You have to find and use an African song that compliments this dance routine, that compliments the theme and the message channeled by the choreography, right now the dance and music are pulling in different directions and tell different stories instead of just one(Africanism)Please fix this if you can and thanks.
Harsh, scary, aggressive energy 😳😬not ballet...a man made this or a woman who thinks she's one. Why does everything have to be propaganda? How about Peace forever... humanity forever? I'm over America, Africa, and black and white. Its all narcissistic bs.
