Asha Bhosle was honoured at CNN News18’s Rising India-She Shakti conclave in New Delhi by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu. The legendary singer was honoured for her illustrious contributions to the field of music. Not only did the President present her with a memento but also requested her to sing a song for her. Bhosle gracefully accepted and sang the song Radha Kaise Na Jale from the film Lagaan.
When the President requested her to sing a song of her choice, Bhosle sang her hit 70s song Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko. The song was from the film Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973). The song was not only a massive hit but it also took Bhosle’s popularity to new height. After the impromptu performance, President Murmu exchanged a few words.

It’s very shocking and unbelievable , how can someone can have so much dislike and jealousy against someone who was not only the greatest singer ever born but was also like a living angel throughout his life.

Both have professional rivalry which is OK. Lataji always had good words about Rafi sahab in public at least - she used to prepare with extra care when singing with Rafi saheb to match him. Where as loud nasal Asha is full of jealousy and poison. She could never match Rafi saheb however well she prepared in her millions of lifetimes. She needs to learn to be a positive good person.

I agree that Asha's behavior here is somewhat distasteful. She really should have sung one or two Rafi songs in tribute to a great legend like him. But your statement that "no male or female singer can come close to Rafi" is an exaggeration. The top singers of that era were essentially in the same league: Lata, Asha, Rafi, Kishore, Manna Dey, Talat, Mukesh, Hemant, Suman, Geeta and a few others in no particular order. Also your statement calling her communal is in very poor taste.
