As a Swede I HIGHLY approve of the message "Fuck around and find out" that many of these creatures has.
Do not mess with the Giants. They want to be left alone.
Do not bother the Trolls. They want to be left alone.
    Stay away from unknown waters.

I'm fascinated about the evolution of the morality of these tales. They evolve over time from "respect nature, and be mindful of the dangers lurking in the wild" to make sure you go to church when you hear the bell, otherwise you'll stay married to a lake dwelling fiddler."

They don't though, which is why you're watching this video.
I can't imagine my teachers in school trying to get kids to listen to these fairy tales. They would zone out about 1 minute in.
Be glad you learned about it, but don't blame the schools for not teaching Swedish folklore to you. That isn't their job. Their job is to teach you literacy, and teach you how to learn.
I would've loved a class about folklore in school, but most classmates would not. This video would be a million times worse if it had 10 kids in backwards baseball hats talking over it.

@@samus598 But we are learning about folklore and mythology in Swedish school. I read a lot of classic fairy tales at home as well as a child in Sweden so shouldn't we like it? The orginals are so much better than the Disney-bubblegum versions of them.

You can actually see the moose before it's dead. Can't remember the exact moment but you're walking through the forest at night and the moose is right to you. It's pretty easy to miss because you have to move the camera and at first it looks like a normal moose but after watching it for a few seconds it lifts its front legs (hands?) and stands like that for a moment. Needless to say I was not expecting to see that :D

I think my favorite fact about this game is the beautiful song that's sung twice called, "Den Blomstertid Nu Koomer." From what I've learned, it's a Swedish hymn, thanking God for the beauty of Summer. Kids sang it before summer break. As a follower of Christ, I find that fact beautiful.

We have a lot of these creatures in danish folklore (also a part of Scandinavia) too. Näcken is called Nøkken but have the same story. Our Huldra also has a hollow back, the same powers and is sometimes also called a ellepige (eldergirl). We have Nisser and Vætter too, they have the same differences as descriped here. We have trolls and giants, and they sometimes have a king or queen. We have a valravn, who has the same story as the raven descriped here. In Denmark we share the folklore about the Drauge. If you wander around outside at night you will find that we might not have mountains, but danish folklore creatures are just as brutal as swedish and norwegian.

Trolls are common inhabitants in caves and mountains, but there are also the gruvrå (the mining equivalent of the Skogsrå, overseeing mining caves) or the bergsrå (mentioned in the video as the guardian of a mountain, usually a troll but not always).
The gruvrå was sometimes described as a unnaturally tall and beautiful woman dressed in dark clothes, and trolls could be of varying sizes as well. It's difficult to say more without knowing more about the creature seen in the game 😁

... but also, the king's door and the throne room and the crown are huge as well... Not only this, but we can also briefly see the withches house (from the book) and it is just as huge, not to mention the animals.

Even if the creature's root mythology is from before the Viking Age, I wouldn't be completely surprised if the Christianised Nordics conflated them with surviving pockets of paganism, which still existed long into the days of Gustav Vasa.

❤️❤️❤️❤️Mvh Isabella❤️❤️

I haven't finished this game and I may not. There is a point after the swamp witch (or maybe much later, I don't entirely remember the order) where you're avoiding a thing in the water. This is the second time that kind of scene happens, and I was just not having any more of it. Don't know if I'll ever get back to that game. The mechanics kind of irritated me.

The christianization of folklore tales is such a tragedy u.u never blindly trust what ancient christians tell about pagan cultures
