The candle scam in the boots of lightness house got me for the most gp back in the day. They even had a youtube video that showed you how to make money off the scammers. I tried what they showed in the video and learned the hard way that the scammers made the youtube video.

I got hit with the scam near sears village with the bridge you have to jump (edit: drop lure in temple ikov), but if your weight is too high you die or something like that. I knew what it was and tried to get one over on the scammer only to lose wayyyyyyy to much. I was an idiot thinking I could win. They make sure there are just enough moving parts to psychological get you to slip up somewhere. Now I just collect on the scams that pay up front to try and get your trust. Bank standing with full Bandos tends to get their attention.
A couple of months ago a guy was selling a sgs for 100k so when the snape grass seed pop in the trade window i laughed and gave him 100k

That corp beast instance scam explanation is part of the bait. That is what they get you to think that they are going to do (and of course you will think that you know how to beat it because you can just not click the teleport), but what the ACTUAL scam is, is that as soon as they see that you aren't holding your items (they have been dropped), they kick you from fc, which kicks you from the instance, then they wait 1 min and take ur shit.

When runescape was a browser game, the ol "Drop your bank and press Alt + F4 to double it" was golden.
When I was 19, I won 6 bonds from a Sparc Mac giveaway and instantly sold them to try to get enough money for pegasians. I was 500k short and inpatient. So I hopped to 330 and started to chat spam that I was buying them for 27m instead of something like 27.5m. I was 2 days into traveling abroad to Australia from America and I was super sick with a fever. This guy asks to see the cash, I put it in the window, he puts a tele in and says his main will meet me in seers bank. I accept and tele to seers bank excited for my brand new pairt of shiny green boots. I wait there for about 2 minutes confused why nothing is happening and see no gp in my inventory. Honestly I was super sad in that moment, but looking back it was funny as hell. Guy just caught me at the perfect time. Sick, jet lagged, and overly excited. Shit happens.

The one scam that will stay with me for life was the noted rune/iron equipment quick swap back in the day. Lost about 80k, but it's a lesson to never forget to double check the trade screen.
Yeah once I got scammed for trying to buy a rune scimitar for 25k (usually they were sold like for 30-35k), they put in the trade window a rune noted scimitar, i put in the gp insta clicked trade - trade. And I got in my inventory an iron scimitar. Lesson learned! I wanted easy 5k profit out of it lol
dude that was early 2001 2002 scam back in varrock i remember the ole note swap on the screen it was a valuable lesson i learned and also how i made my first mill in osrs XD

You two got off easy lol as a child I was trying to merch and I was using my whole cash stack to do it in fally park. I was attempting to buy 3k magic logs he closed the trade and said “hurry up I have to go” I quickly accepted the second go round but it was willow logs. (Magic log and willow logs used to look very similar) I lost 3m :( 17 years later and I remember it like it was yesterday lol

I'm under the impression that your account is less secure if you use a keyboard to type in your pin because if you were keylogged you are also giving away your pin, as opposed to using your mouse to enter your pin. 🤷♂️

Thanks for the explanation for the bournos, I always saw those guys spamming the offers that were obviously too good to be true, but I never tried trading one to see what exactly they were trying to do.
I got scammed back when the trade screen was one button.
People would try to remove the money as I hit accept.
Thankfully, they changed how trades work.
I was desperate for a black (g) plate skirt when I was 9. I fell for the armour trimming scam. I’ve still not recovered. I have one in my bank at cb120 just for child amys happiness. Hahah
The teleport scam had me rolling, like you i just think it would be hilarious to mess with people for laughs. It's kind of like asking to see someones haircut when slaying monsters requiring nosepegs or ear protection, they take off the slayer helm and get slapped.
I got banned for trust trading when i was 13. Its when you show an expensive item and people trade you items, you post the current highest price trade completed. You then give the stuff back and the next guy trades you stuff worth more than the last person. You do this until someone trades a stupid amount of stuff and you dip with it.

Seeing how people where willing to manipulate, lie and do anything to other humans just to scam a few GP in a game like runescape, showed the true side of human greed. Suddenly I was not going to be surprised that someone is willing to fuck you up irl over 10 dollars, when you experienced what people was willing to do just for 1 gp in runescape.
in 2013. Pre everything. And I 'bought' a verac's set for 15m. And it turned out that I paid 15million gold pieces. Which was literally like 5. Days @ ardy knights.

only one that's gotten me was a skull trick: duo attacked me at the wildy slayer cave, but one guy used the fun weapon that looks like dds, i clicked him trying to defend myself and got skulled. also people still do teletab scam to this day in pvp worlds

the drop lure got me way back in the day, it wasnt about getting pk'd, theyd throw you some kind of sticky ball while youre crossing, it makes you weigh too much or something iirc and you fall and drop all your gear. then they telegrab it from the bridge
Drop lure still works: If you drop your items in upstairs Varrock Castle you can somehow get punched behind an open door and trapped if there's an account logged in beneath spam clicking.
Bottom line: Don't drop your items.

"Password is censored" scam is a classic one missing. Also the online skank GF that flirts for weeks or months with some dude and then cleans their bank.

Someone tried to scam me yesterday. Gave me 1 mill and had me follow away from people. Dropped some dragon gear. Then asked me to grab my expensive stuff and follow them. I took the 1.5mil in gear and cash and said sorry this is sus im good.
Not even 20min later some kid tried the buy limit scam on me, but with a twist. He handed me 500k and asked me to buy him beer. Each beer was on GE for over 1k each when I did a quick check. Told the guy I couldn't do that. He asked for the money back and told him my rent was due and it was all gone. Had a clan mate stand by and pretend to be my landlord.
I hate scammers, but love when they give you large sums of money before hand thinking you will fall for it. Use your head, don't trust anyone, 2mil off those kids is 2 mill more than I had before. I call 30min for 2mill a decent profit/hr ratio.
There used to be a fence between dark wizards and the path south of them leading into varrok. Way back in the day, I would get a dark wizard stuck south of the fence (right on top of the path). I'd stand on top of the wizard so incoming noobs couldn't see it and wait for the lvl 3s who drop traded from their mains. Back then, loot from players appeared on the ground immediately after death, the best loot I got doing this was like 500k in runes. Good times x'D

I've played RuneScape since like 2006 and the lessons I've learned are always closed the trade window if the other person doesn't put money in and accept. Any pause in the trade i back out to see what they are planning
The favourites / most memorable for me are the trust trade because a dude I thought I was friends with for 13 years outside the game scammed me for 50m. But also the item swapping, because it was so obvious what the scammer was trying to do and I was just hyper aware of it at the time, and he ended up swapping the items and fucking the trade up for himself and I made 20m from him , and he instantly teleported out probably thinking he got me , shit was hilarious .
First scam I ever spotted and saved myself was someone saying "show me your bank, ill add 10%" so i did he puts up 10% of my bank value and accepts quick. I got to the second window before I realized I almost lost everything ( this was back in 2006)
The Corp Instance Scam works because when they trade you the grand seed pod, they tell you they are "fireworks" for the video and you have to click them once you receive the trade.
I had someone in the GE try to do a wilderness lure by giving me a dark crab tele tab and asked me to use it on him as if it could teleother😂

The 3rd age lure should NOT be a ban able offence as it is all intended mechanics of the game.
Luring people to get them to skull on you is not an intended mechanic of the game you donkey

His clan had me fill out an application and sent me a link to the forums site. The site was fake but it looked legit as hell. I entered my account info then it had me put in my bank pin. I soon as I did that I realized that I had fucked up
when turtle shell had no use in the game on runescape 2 i used to farm them, go to varrok bank and equip a mirror shield. i would say im selling my shield for 10k look how cool it is it mirrors your reflection. trade them the turtle shell for 10k each. worked like a charm in the new member spree on rs2. Im sorry but also not god forgive me.
I started to get upset because you were saying I was dumb for falling for lending someone a valuable item and they logged and blocked me (blue Halloween mask worth like 150k-200k at the time), but a: I was like 14 at the time and b: the other person had been my best RS friend throughout RSC for like 7 months from when I became a member to the start of RS2. We would do all kinds of stuff together. We'd hang out talking and meanwhile I'd be training my favorite skill (mining) on coal using the new sleeping bags to stay at the rocks in lumby swamp or barb village while they'd run my ores to the bank, and possibly cert them for me, and we'd watch each others backs training combat and stuff. Losing what I thought was a great friend of such a long time hurt more than losing the blue Halloween mask. I had a new mask within the week thanks to running natures at the dawn of RS2 when the RCer would provide the noted essence and ALL natures made. I had earned my first blue mask by going into the woods where the red vine worms are as soon as RS2 started, full of normal trees (only normal logs could be made into arrow shafts at the time) and not leaving until I had enough arrow shafts to sell to get a blue mask and finish affording a glory amulet as well. RS2 was the dawn of the combat triangle from the previous melee focus so there was a lot of fast money to be made early on in RS2 with arrow shafts and nature running.
Funny thing is before asking for my blue mask he first asked to "borrow" my less expensive glory and I declined because I was about to go to Shilo Village to mine gem rocks, but I had no problem handing over the more expensive mask. Yeah, I was a dumb kid, but as I said I was able to replace the mask within the week while we'd been thick as thieves for over half a year.
One thing I did that was equally as dumb in hindsight was share my main account back when it was against the rules, including pin, with an in-game/MSN friend I'd known for a couple of years, but nothing bad came of it. He trained some skills and did some quests I had no interest in at the time. Funny enough, I actually volunteered to do Underground Pass for several friends as it was an infamously infuriating quest (I did it on classic and it felt like an awesome achievement, and since I had already experienced doing it in a harder version of Runescape and knew what to expect I gladly volunteered to do it for any friend that couldn't be bothered with that infamous quest. I liked doing Underground Pass in early RS2, and making my friends happy that they didn't have that hanging over their quest log. I think I'm broken. I suppose it sucked to be them when Regicide came out. Sure, it's simpler to go back through than to do the whole quest, but familiarity with the pass and its traps definitely helps things go smoother.
I loaned a rapier to a guy I’d known in game for 8 years back when they were over 100m. Wasn’t even mad over it honestly. Mostly just sad, literal years of talking to a dude a few times a month minimum to get ripped for some pixels.

Pre eoc i fell for the item swap with a pirate shirt and an easter egg if i recall correctly. I was so excited until i unnoted it. Thankfully it was like 50k.
The only time i got got was in varrock castle. They had me drop items on this specific square, trade me so i move forward one square and then open this door so that i cant reach the items. Then they have their alt or whoever log in on that tile and take it. They fixed that door like a week later ffs. But they only got like 90m and i made it back quick.
Not sure if you can anymore, but there were worlds in different languages, those worlds people would try to get you to go on then tele-other you into the wilderness.

Just got done by a wildly lure lol. Was 4am and I just finished a slayer task on high risk world and went back to GE. As I was running to the booth all these dragon platelegswere spawning on the ground. I knew it was a lure but I followed the trail to the wilderness ditch. Said to myself “don’t hop that ditch” as I had about 900k in platelegs already but as I said it a cannon spawned on the ground. Stupidly I ran out and got Insta smoked for 15m in gear 😂

One I got hit by back in 06 right after construction came out, someone said there was a dupe glitch involving the opulent dining table, where if you put an item in it you could pick it up and it would still be on the table, letting you dupe it. Seemed suspicious, of course but the guy was standing on the other side of the room, I'm just thinking, okay even he tried to telegrab, I'm right on top of it and I know when it's dropping, in sure I can beat him to pick it up if he's trying to scam

waaaay long ago back when death dropped all your items at your feet i was asked to go boxing in someones POH. i had to take all my gear off, my health got dropped to almost nothing, but they claimed i "won" and gave me GP then they said if i made quick lime for them theyd give me even more gp. Because I didnt have gloves on (i wasnt thinking) the quicklime damaged me and all my gear dropped on the ground.
Back in the day, my friend fell for an item swapping scam where someone would be buying a rune platebody for 111k but they would quickly switch it out for 11.1k.
He then made it his mission to scam others with that one. His account got banned a couple weeks later 😂

some guy dropped like 10 mil worth of stuff around 4 tiles from the wild and I saw it and was like 'eh im not risking much" walked out there, grabbed 2 mil worth of stuff and dipped. the problem was, too many people tried to take the loot. there was like 5-6 people and the guy who dropped it wasnt able to handle the situation, he attacked some guy but I left, I didnt care if he died so I dont even know if he survived.
the plugin lure at the end, if they have control over his account why kill him instead of trading the items?

I honestly never would've assumed that wildy luring was bannable. It's sleezy to do but I kind of assumed it was more of a "shame the idiot for a bit" then let them move on and learn their lesson. It makes sense but yeah the comment of "unless you're a content creator" really holds true. You see all sorts of questionable stuff from CZcamsrs. It might be fun to watch but guarantee those on the recieiving end of some of the shenanigans you see weren't too happy about it.
All of these scams are F tier because scammers just don't innovate, they don't come up with any new ideas, they just rehash the old shit and it keeps working.
What about the pump and dump scam where big streamers or content creators tells everyone to buy a certain item and then they dump the item to make billz

i made billions on rs2 swapping out the money, so 1500k to 15004. used to work dam near everytime buying flax and stuff like that
26:15 this scam was S tier pre-eoc. I remember selling a guy a Dharok or veracs set lg for a few hundred k under their ge value and then declining the trade and switching the set with a bronze set for the next trade (because the sets looked exactly the same) and it worked. I think I sold someone a bronze set for like 2-3M 🤣
I dont think skull tricking is bannable now that they have the anti skull button. Tho if you utilize a bug to skull someone using skull protection then it would make sense for it to be bannable

holy fuck yes the "bournos in camelot" scam where they just put in a tele tab in and tell you to meet their main there, basically the 1 and only scam that cost me a bit that i fell for, back when toxic blowpipe was around 11mil (looking at the wiki now seeing it was around 2015ish). DO NOT trade at 3 am in the morning super tired, I couldnt even be mad at the guy i instantly knew i fucked up lmao. good times.
Drop lure was not used in wilderness. It was when people dropped their items under a tile where the action to do something appears before the pick up item option. The victims would then drop their items but when they click their items, it would make them do an action instead of picking up their items and then the items would appear to the lurer before they could make it back to that spot.
There was a lure in rs3 where they would ask you to drop a rare item, then release 30+ clockwork things so you couldn't right click and pick your item up.
Only way you could was with tele-grab, which is how the lurers would get your rare item. Happened to someone I knew, but Jagex refunded their partyhat they lost.
