- I've had this tape for years, ever since that wonderful day at Beach Boys Stomp 36 years ago. It really was the all-time fan moment, and totally unexpected, even after Stomp co-organiser Mike Grant had phoned me the night before to ask if I had a keyboard... I carried my mates Paul and Butch's DX7 on the tube, and set up the mic for "a guest". "How tall is he?" I asked. "About the same as you," somebody said...
That moment when the curtains opened to reveal a trim, waving Brian was just magic and totally unforgettable.
This clip includes footage of all of us who queued up to meet him, albeit sped up about 100 times! Huge, huge thanks as ever to Roy Gudge, Mike Grant and others for pulling off the convention coup of the century, and to Mike's brother Jim for capturing on video. Marvellous stuff. - Hudba

Wow, wish I could hear all of Pet Sounds and Smile with just Brian singing and playing a DX7 (no sustain pedal). Such a pure way to experience a songwriter and his song.
This is absolutely incredible! I was lucky enough to see him in Wallingford, CT during his 2005 'Smile' tour and it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Thanks so much for posting!!! 😃
Quite a suprise at the time. I have not seen this video till today. Thanks Brian for being in the world. Seeing pet sounds in London was an absolute highlight of my concert life. Thanks also to the organisers

This is so awesome! Back then i remember getting his solo album on vinyl and just melting to each track. I would have loved to see him live. It would be around a decade before that would happen.

My God I didn't realize this was available Sean! Mike had told me to make sure I didn't miss that year's convention. And i did. I'd left my tickets in my office in the West End where alarm systems prevented me from going back in to retrieve them until the Monday. I knew there'd been a change of venue from the previous years, but couldn't remember where and it was on the tickets. I tried phoning but Mike and Margaret had already left the house. Anyway it wasn't until a couple of weeks later I was on my way home on the Central Line flicking through my copy of the weekly music paper Sounds, when I saw the headline "Good Vibrations in Greenford". Well to say I was gutted would be an understatement. So thankyou for putting this up after all these years. Finally after 36 years nearly, I got to do the next best thing to actually being there. I remember the Lets Go Away for a While competition by the way. It was at the Harrow and Wealdstone centre near where Mike lived. Heather Smallbone who used to run The Beach Boys Appreciation Society was one of the other entries if I recall. I won the quiz competition that year and received the whole back catalogue of Stomp magazines as a prize , which as I'd only found out about Stomp a few months previously, was very welcome!!! I hadn't realised the version of LGAFAW on your first album was different to the one played at the Convention for the competition. Both are great though. Well done!

There was a comment on the video of your outstanding vocal cover of Let's Go Away, claiming that it was submitted for a competition held by the BB Stomp. Is this true?
Hi Claude. Yes, totally true! The late, great Chris White ran a competition in '87, and I think only about 3 of us entered! 😆
@@smacreavy They must have been bowled over when they heard your entry. I didn't know about Chris White, but I've just listened to Spanish Wine and the BB influence is obvious! I thought that your version was some tribute to a lost demo buried deep in the archives (given how much material they would keep unreleased for so long), so to learn that it was an original vocal melody - especially for a small competition - was pretty astonishing.
