The blossoms will be out soon for spring and once daylight savings kicked in you will get to experience the real NZ, sunshine always helps brighten the mood. BBQs and beachwalks after work, the sounds and smells of summer. NZ ice-cream 😁

For fitness and mental health, I recommend reaching out to a local sports club. Most rugby clubs organise social touch competitions over the summer, and I've heard great things about indoor netball.
With social competitions like those, the organizing person will usually have a couple of teams that are looking for players... no experience necessary. It's a great way to get moving and meet people.

Sitting here in my conservatory (sun room) listening to the rain on the roof, I really feel for you guys landing right in the middle of the wettest July on record... I can't wait to see your videos in the height of summer when the cicadas are singing and it's clear blue skies as far as you can see. BBQs, beaches ⛱️ and beers in the sun.
    Kia kaha.

You guys are doing great! We emigrated 14 years ago and Christchurch is now home and we love it so much! We also made so many mistakes but hey it’s an adventure when you move countries. You have a great attitude and it’s always good when you can laugh at yourself afterwards 😄. I was also lonely initially but once you start work you will make friends so easily. People here are so great! The weather at the moment is awful! I have never experienced such a wet winter so your area probably doesn’t usually flood and you will enjoy it in the summer 😎. Hang tight and things will get easier with time 🌸

Great to have you guys here in Christchurch. Sorry about this awful weather, honestly we don't usually get so much rain all at one time. We are all tired of it and looking forward to a bit more sunshine. Hope you are both settling in and getting used to everything.
I think you are very brave moving so far from home. I see you're getting plenty of comments and advice already. Take care and if you want to know anything just ask the subscribers. Someone will have the answer. 🙂

Haha, yeah driving on the other side of the is quite different. I have the same problem when I'm in in a country that drives on the right. I find myself looking to the wrong points of an intersection. And in places like Hawaii when the roads are not always marked the kids were my alerts, reminding me I'm about to be on the wrong side of the road. Especially when tiredness starts to kick in and left hand drive habits kick in.

How’s the flooding right now? High tide is about 3pm today but that far up the river about 5pm will be the peak of it.
Looks like the weather forecast has changed again now and it’s looking much better from tomorrow on.
On the fitness side in a couple of months when the weather warms up come out to sumner beach and grab a surf lesson, you will be hooked after one go. It’s a great way to keep your fitness up and a great way to meet new people.

I used to live in the USA for 5 years and Ketchup and tomato sauce were also a lesson learned for me as well, also you will get used to driving on the opposite side of the car as well as the road lol. As for the River, I assume its the Avon river that you live by, the flooding isn't the usual case so do not worry too much, I live by a river as well, and love the sound of it at night listening to the water and the frogs croaking away, mistakes are good they enable us to learn and move forward so that's a good thing. look forward to your next Vid.

We live near the Heathcote! I'm sure it is beautiful at night, but right now it is hard to enjoy when it keep us from either getting to our home or out of our home safely. Our fingers are crossed that there isn't much more flooding.

The "mistakes" you describe are mostly unavoidable learning experiences when moving to an unfamiliar environment. You are absolutely right about looking after yourself, remember that you guys are awesome for taking the risks that you did, and that your reward will be some great experiences. Your place is looking lovely! I am very sorry that your shipping container is being vague about it's arrival date but you are getting stuff done. It is still the very early days of your adventure and some of the stress is still fresh. You guys are doing well and will relax more as you get used to the little differences in your lives. I am not a social butterfly but I found that online resources really helped in finding social activities that I enjoyed in my new country, and it really did make a difference. You have so many good times lined up in the coming months!

We were just talking about the river inChristchurch last night. My Hubby was originally from Christchurch and he reminded me that parts I’d Christchurch are only a few inches above sea level. So when it rains heavily there is a lot of flooding, especially at high tide cause the water has no where to go. We live only 500m from an estuary and we have similar problems when it’s raining heavily and it’s high tide.
Your rental agent/landlord was suppose to inform you of potential flooding where you live. It’s like purchasing a property = any issues have to be disclosed before an agreement is signed.

Hi Katie! Welcome to New Zealand! I am also based in Christchurch (New Zealander born and bred). I spent some time in Minnesota a few years ago and had some similar experiences to you (but the other way around lol) Especially with the driving! Asking for Tomato Sauce at food places to go with my chips (fries) in the states got me a few weird looks too. The rain at the moment is truly insane, I hope you guys are keeping dry and aren't too flooded!

I can totally understand how being confined in limited spaces can affect one's mental welbeing.
Fortunately during the initial 'Covid lockdown' periods New Zealand experienced l was coming out of a personal health crisis that had involved months and months of withdrawn self
    isolation.
Observing people struggling with enforced isolation at the time was a game changer because l found staying at home during that period really easy to cope with.
    Long story short...
Exercise and workout when and wherever you find easiest for you.
If you're use to going to a gymn religiously, recognise that a pandemic can and will change that habit drastically and if you aren't mentally prepared it can be problematic.
I totally understand that you guys are still transitioning and that you may not have an 'established' support network in Christchurch yet.
Don't give up, thing will become easier with time.
As in the gym...No pain...no gain!
    Eat healthy too.
You guys seem to be on the right track and my wife and l have enjoyed watching your videos.
    Cheers!

It's not easy immigrating to any country. Speaking from experience.Moved from South Africa to Finland, then to Sweden, and to Philippines, then to Christchurch,New Zealand. Just don't be hard on yourself.😊 Soon it will be spring time, and you will start to really enjoy being there. Also what helped my husband and I was, getting a job,and then you begin to have a good, balanced lifestyle in the country👍😊. I do wish you all the best whilst living in Christchurch. Good on you. There will be others learning lots from you.
You can buy Ketchup as well as tomato sauce. I tend to use Ketchup to make sweet and sour sauce.
When you ever buy, rent a house it will pay for you to have a look at the council's website for info on flooding, unusual covenants for the house and area etc. To purchase, it will show up on the LIM as part of the checks the lawyer would do.
When booking with the travel agent, they would always check that the ticket has the same name as shown on the passport.

Wow it only seems like yesterday that you had the flat tire! Ha! You always produce a good video and l can see you've listened to some of the well meaning advice that's offered time to time. I thing some of us are getting quite possessive of having you here and so proud you chose Lil 'ol NZ for a time in your lives. The piano is awesome and we deserve to see it played sometime in the future! 🤞🏻
As for Keaton having trouble with his spatial (you can google it...) awareness, he needs to practice with cones or poles in an open space like an empty'ish carpark somewhere. He'll adapt l promise. One common mistake is to focus too much on the object you're scared of hitting, and then you get kinda drawn into it. So a quick glance then focus further ahead.

And then there was the constant going to the passenger side of the vehicle when returning to my parked car (when I was the driver). Happened sooooo many times. The 4 way stop thing really perplexed me too. Those don't exist in NZ.

Nah Ketchup and Watties Tomato sauce aren't the same, ketchup is horrible, Watties Tomato sauce is awesome! 😂You probably should have bought "tomato paste". Canned Watties tomato sauce is for re-filling your Watties tomato sauce bottle when it runs out. Saves chucking out the plastic bottle. Re the river, this is the wettest winter I can remember, but at least wet isn't quite as cold.

    Re IRD number...
There was no need to stress - so long as the pay clerk has the number before the payroll is run for the pay period you would have been fine. Shame on his employer for not pointing this out.
If you DID have to get the higher amount deducted (and I totally get that every dollar is important when in a new country) then you would automatically get it refunded after the end of the Financial Year (31 March).
How long is it expected for your right to work to come through? Sorry i have not seen all your postings, but I assume your husband got a work visa through his employer - it is things like this that make it difficult for families to emigrate to NZ. I suggest you drop a polite letter to
    Hon Chris Wood
    Minister of Immigration
    Parliament House
    Wellington
Detail your problem in as short a letter as you can, definitely not more than one page!
Remember NOT to put a stamp on the envelope - it's one of our privileges to communicate with our government without cost! Ministers are human and do not know every rule or policy used by their department - if they do not know it is broken, they cannot fix it.
