    Bought this at Harrods last week after sampling in store, and am really loving its presence as I go about my day. Performance wise I can't fault it. It lasts the entire 9-5 day and I'm still smelling of it back at home. I don't tire of the smell either, unlike some other fragrances. Happy to apply this on consecutive days, which is rare considering my collection of over 100 fragrances to choose from :)

    Got my nose on this just before Christmas when I’d heard it was coming to the signature line. It absolutely blew me away! To me an incredibly classy fougere! The sort I’ve been looking for, for ages. Was thinking there had to be tweaks of sorts given the price difference, thanks for the comparison. Cannot wait to pick this up! 👍

    Smell 'n' Tell! Seems like a wonderful game for children! Honestly didn't know this one was re-released, but I suppose the bottle is a dead giveaway. Smelled the private blend version and enjoyed it even more than Fougere d'Argent (which tends to fizzle on my skin). So glad that TF is making some excellent fragrances more accessible to the common folk.

    I have the Private Blend version & when I saw the new version I tried both together with one on each hand & found the new version had a much shorter life than the Private Blend & also seemed to have less depth & complexity. As you say if you’re re-releasing the same fragrance for half the price there’s got to be some compromise or cost cutting along the way to make the numbers work.
    Tom Ford did say his inspiration was that he wanted a fragrance that smelled like ‘Cary Grant’s neck’ which I think gives a good image of what it smells like to someone who hasn’t tried it yet

    I want this despite having Rive Gauche. But at the end of the day. Its one of those things, I am genuinely quite excited this was shifted to Signature line.
    As i noted on IG I think TF felt that the discontinuation of Rive Gauche was a red line and thus created his own to keep that style available. Look forward to getting my nose onto it.

    Most of the reviews I've seen since among those who have both private Blend and Signature and have spent a great deal of time with both say there is absolutely no difference. Same juice. I hear that Tom Ford reps also say that the juice is absolutely the same but the different bottles may manifest the juice differently.
    They mention a slightly "camphorous accord". That makes sense because Beau de Jour uses two types of lavender: the normal English spike lavender, and lavendin, a hybrid of English and Portuguese lavender. And the lavendin has more than 10 times the camphor than the normal lavender. So what I think is happening is the mint and lavendin camphor are combining to firm a cool mentholation/camphoration in Beau de Jour.

    I tried this today. I found the first few minutes to be really strong lavendar, almost like Caron pour un homme. After that it became more rounded but was quite faint and pretty much gone after a few hours. Need to give it another go before deciding whether to purchase. Pleased to see it in the more accessable line (vs private blend).

      @nathanthomas5133 Před 4 lety +1

      the1big1matt it’s more accessible (& cheaper) but they have definitely reduced the longevity & complexity so that’s the compromise you’re making. If you want better longevity try the PB version before it disappears & see what you think

    I thought it was alright. For me personally, if a fragrance is going to go with the shaving cream vibe.. I really want it to smell like shaving cream. This one wasn't sharp enough for me. It felt half assed and too rounded out. Kind of dull. Maybe that was the result of making it "modern". Honestly, I feel Drakkar Noir does what this was trying to do way better. Stronger, sharper, more masculine. Classic shaving cream scent. The performance was decent though. I found it difficult to wash off and could still smell it on my skin after a few scrubs with Dawn. Whereas Drakkar Noir, today, doesn't last well on skin but does perform fairly well on clothing.
    I wish these niche or artisanal houses, that have access to these regulated materials, would delve back into the 80s powerhouse themes. I think they really set a high watermark of masculine that simply hasn't been touched since. Damn IFRA!

    • @WaftsfromTheLoft
      @WaftsfromTheLoft  Před 4 lety
