The 2012 Audi R8 is considered one of the best supercars you can buy and is available in two distinct body styles, consisting of a coupe and a convertible which is also called the Spyder. There are 2 engine choices available: the 4.2 liter V-8 engine and the 5.2 liter V-10 engine. Base price for the 4.2 liter coupe is a reasonable $114,200 with the 5.2 liter Spyder tested here costing $162,700. And just so you know there is a $3000 gas guzzler tax on this vehicle.
Choosing the car of the year list is hard work. When looking at the best convertible for 2012 the Audi R8 V10 Spyder; this car defines what a convertible should be. The R8 Spyder is definitely one of the sexiest cars ever created. There is no mistaking the rear of the Audi R8. You can see this car coming from a mile away. The only drawback with owning the Spyder vs. the coupe is that with the coupe model you get a cool engine cover that is clear. But with the Spyder, there needs to be a place to hide the folding top; thus the engine is hidden. Like most convertibles the Audi R8 Spyder is challenged for cargo space. You would be lucky to get 2 grocery bags into the front storage area.
The 2012 Audi R8 V10 Spyder is powered by a 5.2 liter V-10 engine that produces 525 horsepower and 391 lb-ft. of torque. The car rockets from 0-60 MPH in 4.0 seconds. In case you are wonder the Audi R8 V10 gets 13 MPG in the city and 19 MPG on the highway.
Audi has always offered many advanced packages with their vehicles and the R8 has plenty of addition options you can purchase. For $9900 you can upgrade the brakes to a Ceramic Carbon set of high performance rotors and calipers. Or for about $8100 you can opt for the Carbon Fiber Sigma Exterior Package which adds a carbon fiber front spoiler and rear diffuser. On the inside the options include a carbon fiber dress-up kit. For $750 the R8 Spyder can be equipped with a set of cool white gauges.
The 2012 Audi R8 is available with paddle shifters but the real driver's choice should be the gated 6-speed manual transmission. The Audi R8 Spyder is one of the best looking cars on the road. When you add in a huge 525 horsepower V-10 engine, the R8 transforms into a monster.

In Australia it's 300k but we have luxury car tax and that cost an extra 70k and don't forget you have to pay for rego etc so that's a total of well over 400k - 500k

They last longer and their lighter and they dont fade quicly like normal brakes, good if your on a track but normal brakes are good for the road driving
I really hate how there's no glass display on the convertible. That's one of the best things about the coupe version. They should really have done that, it would make this basically the perfect car IMO

Audi is pretty absurd for offering a v8, if you want a car like this is should only be the v10 or maybe even a v12. thats just my opinion. you should do that Audi just saying.

These guys don't deserve to review cars. Audi gives it to them for a WEEK, and they put up a 3 min. review. Give the car to me and i'll put more information in it than you can ever do with that pesky 3 minutes.
