      Omg! I haven't enjoyed a video like this in awhile! Thank you! But seriously fuck all of those food delivery companies you were talking about. My boyfriend's sister uses them and the amount of those ice packs they come with are ridiculous! She was trying to give all those ice packs to us!
      And at my job yesterday someone ordered almost $100 in sides to go. These sides consisted of guacamole, shredded cheese, tomatoes, pico, tortillas, I mean they were fucking ingredients! They could have driven their lazy asses to the store for how much they spent and saved a lot of money and used so much less plastic.

    I have chronic pain, and I truly appreciate you mentioning that the pre-cut fruits and veggies are needed for some people. It is exhausting to constantly have people talking shit about how only a lazy person would buy that. A tip for anyone who sees products and thinks that way: before getting upset about it, remember that there are many, many disabled people with varying abilities. It might be easy for you to cut up a canteloupe, but my hands cant hold a knife for longer than a few minutes at a time. This can be applied to more than just food packaging as well. Thanks for always considering multiple possible life experiences in your videos â˜ș

      Aubree Mugridge I have a problem in my hand because I fell down as a kid and have had five surgeries to save my hand. Sometimes my right hand hurts so badly I have to use a splint and even taking that off hurts. So I also appreciate the fact she mentioned people like me who are simply in pain and cooking becomes really hard ❀

      THIS!!!!!! Me too.

    • @hotjanuary
      @hotjanuary Pƙed 6 lety +9

      Aubree Mugridge, I don’t know if this applies to you, but due to my disability, I can’t handle writing normally for longer than 15 minutes. This means that taking notes is a real problem. Even my typing speed is slower than my sister who never fished learning the proper keyboard hand placement. Taking pictures of the chalkboard makes studying very difficult later on.
      Recently, I’ve learned about shorthand. I’m learning a phonetic system similar to Pitman shorthand which will allow me to write 60 WPM once I finish learning it. Regular people will average 120 WPM. Speedy writers can go over 200 WPS. Top competitors went over 300 WPS. I’m just hoping for 60. That’s faster than my typing speed.
      The shorthand system of writing (whichever one you choose, many pick Teeline because there’s less memorization, but the trade off is that you have to write more) means you don’t have to use as many strokes for every word, thereby saving you time and hand stress per minute.
      So, I’m just letting others know because I wish I knew about it years ago. It would have saved me a lot of struggle and hand pain.

      I appreciate her mentioning this too! Just recently a cashier many years older than me, and with no knowledge of my health, said to me "Someone's taking the easy way out" after scanning some pre-cut veggies that I needed to purchase. If it weren't for those pre-cut veggies, my family may not have had fresh food cooked for them that night because some days I have a very difficult time chopping.

      Aubree Mugridge I wish they had a produce counter like they do a butcher counter. If they can cut up the meat people buy then why can't they do it for the produce! People would probably buy more and that packaged stuff usually costs more per pound. Ugh. One day maybe!!

    Faux antiques are _so_ annoying. Go thrift shopping and find something with actual character that’s already lasted years instead of buying something that _wants_ to look old from someplace awful like Anthropologie that will last a year at best.

    It's not really a trend, but I hate that we live in a society where we have to ask to NOT get something. It should be the opposite! Want a straw? Ask for it. I don't want to have to stress over the fact that if I don't catch the waiter/waitress in time, that I'll end up with a piece of plastic in my drink that I did not ask for! Not blaming restaurant staff at all here, just frustrated that our society has come to this.

    • @natc1008
      @natc1008 Pƙed 6 lety +12

      amlafontaine why do restaurants even give straws? Is it because they're too lazy to scrub the rim of glasses?

    • @sagessedantan
      @sagessedantan Pƙed 6 lety +5

      I agree! They shouldn't even have straws in the first place! Maybe it's because restaurants think the clients think it's more hygienic to drink from a staw?

    About the Keurig thing: I couldn’t agree more. The literal OWNER of Keurig regrets his invention because of this. He literally says it’s wasteful (and too expensive). Like... he literally doesn’t own a Keurig. That really says something.

    • @AWanderingEye
      @AWanderingEye Pƙed 6 lety +22

      Theresa C I think that the Keurig Company should create a version that requires using a reusable coffee grounds holder and that would be the beginning of their redemption. And include recipe book for various fillings so no store bought refills are required.

      Aristanifly, yeah my mom reuses those little produce bags for her dog's poop when they go out to public places that require you clean up after you dogs. She just has a whole box of them collected in her truck. She even asks her friends and stuff to save their for her too. As for the grocery bags, I've always reused mine for trash bags for my little trash can in my office and bathroom. But I usually opt for using the reusable bags when shopping or asking for paper, since I can then reuse them for craft projects and such.

    OR SHEET MASKS! I never understood why they got so famous. Beside the fact, that they cost shitload of money, you waste so much plastic, for a one way mask. Not that I like one-way-creammasks either, but at least I get up to 3 usages out of one package. Still not enough, if I consider, that it took me over one year, finish the package of healing clay. Which is so much cheaper and works way better.
    I think moisturizing sheet-masks are not that necessary if you know how to take care of your skin, and I am someone who tends to have dry skin.

      Plus the argument about preprepared vegetables- I predominantly buy frozen vegetables, which can last our 2 person household anywhere from a fortnight to over a month. Some days, my condition can prevent me from cooking or can take the very last of my energy; finding out that the fresh veg we have has gone off can tip me over the edge into not coping. Using preprepared and frozen food can make the difference between eating a healthy meal and eating total junk. I won't feel guilty for that. And I won't stop talking about it until people stop dismissing the coping methods disabled and chronically ill people use to make life that little bit easier

    • @greencat.
      @greencat. Pƙed 6 lety +18

      Holly Etheridge As you said, frozen fruits and vegetables last longer than fresh produce, and are more affordable. Fresh produce is expensive; it's a luxury many families can't afford, so shaming people for not being able to keep up with the organic healthy lifestyle is unfair and counterproductive. I agree that when you have an illness and/or disabilit(ies), energy management is crucial to your health. We shouldn't shame people for not keeping up with abled standards.
      Another annoying thing about this video was the assumption that people heating up a microwaveable meal don't have an illness and/or disability. Some illnesses and disabilities are invisible: one can't tell that a person is sick or disabled just by looking at them. The person she's shaming for eating TV dinners could have an invisible illness and/or disability, or several. This ableist attitude keeps people from using walking aids, motorized chairs, and disabled parking. Disabled and chronically ill people shouldn't have to avoid going out in public or push themselves past their limits because abled people are giving them dirty looks for using their accommodations. Not everyone is "faking" or "lazy." Young people can be chronically ill and/or disabled. Disabled people's use of accommodations isn't hurting anyone. Stop policing people's accommodations: it's not weeding out the "fakers"; it's keeping disabled people from getting the accommodations they need. People with disabilities and/or chronic illnesses shouldn't have to disclose their medical conditions/history to "prove" they're disabled "enough" to receive accommodations. Just provide accommodations when people ask for them. People who ask for accommodations are not trying to take advantage of anyone.
      Also, why do we expect everyone to cook from scratch all the time, when it's so much easier to buy ingredients and meals? Why doesn't it "count" unless people are laboring in the kitchen for hours over complicated, fancy meals? People are not "bad" parents for not having the time, energy, money, and ability to cook farm-to-table meals from scratch. We're not doomed to be unhealthy if we can't cook like Martha Stewart. Let people take the "easy way out." Why does everything we do have to be done the tedious way?

    • @lealou1092
      @lealou1092 Pƙed 5 lety +6

      Britney Baker From what I heard she doesn’t get people living “regular” lives being extra wasteful. I think she can sympathize with people who have a real need for prepackaged/ one time use items. If it did work for you and you wanted to have less waste pre-making wipes and food (then freezing) could always be helpful. Everyone should just do the best THEY can do and inform but not judge others who have to do things differently.

      She said in her video that this doesn't apply to people who have disabilities. Ps I have bad depression and anxiety, I don't use spray, just hot water and soap/vinegar in a bucket works fine. There are ways to be less wasteful that are still disability friendly.

      CMS Sultana that’s a great suggestion! I’ve made a few “green” videos, but I haven’t thought to do that topic yet. Some examples are: I purchased the Scott Brite brand reusable kitchen wipes and a spray bottle of white vinegar and lemon essential oil. We use that instead of wipes. It’s a little smelly, but it’s natural and Earth friendly. I also keep a stack of hand towels that I use anytime someone spills something. Schools supply those crappy brown paper towels that absorb nothing, and I don’t let my students use them for any spills. At the beginning of the year I have them watch a Ted talk about how and why to dry your hands with ONE paper towel. I know it sounds crazy, but when you see kids grab four and five paper towels, it’s frustrating! Their winter holiday gift from me is always a reusable bag that folds up into a cute shape, and I provide reusable cups for anyone who forgets to bring their reusable bottle. Every Wednesday we have “Green Day”. Our school colors are green and white, so technically it’s just a school spirit day. For my class it is Earth Day. I have the kids watch one or two videos from CZcams and do a short lesson on what they can do right now to help the Earth. I’m obsessively committed to the fact that the only way to change the future is to teach and inspire young people. 8 and 9 year olds are the BEST people on earth, and they still have hope and empathy for animals and nature. 💚💚💚

What most people (myself included) would see as wasteful, she sees as something that allows disabled people to take their lives back and gives them independence. She gave the example that some days she does not have the strength to peel an orange, but wants to be able to feed herself without a career. Haven’t confirmed this, but I’ve heard that the man who invented keurigs has actually said he regrets inventing them because of the waste. Like they have the option of the reusable cups, but how many people actually use those?

      That is actually a traditional Japanese method that sadly has now trended and new items are being made as if they are patchwork antiques. I love it when someone does something for the right reasons and 'the public' thinks they are fashionable. I have 2 French string bags that are over 40 years old and this year I''m trendy- of course i will still be using them after the trend is over.

      Maroulio I didn’t know that, that’s interesting. I saw on Instagram that broken dishes that had cracks were filled/repaired with gold. Yea people try and tell I’m being a basic trend follower which couldn’t be further from the truth. For example a “dad hat” I’ve had for years that has become a popular article of clothing.

    I've replaced my disposable makeup wipes with those microfibre makeup remover wipes and they also reduce the amount of product I need to wipe my face clean. I've also replaced my cleaning wipes with microfibre as well. For people who already have a kurig machine don't throw it out just get those re fillable pods and then when the machine breaks you can replace with a better option.
    There's a lot of technology being made to replace the inner packaging like the plastic bags inside cereal boxes or the wrapping around cheese strings with a bio degradable and edible material! Maybe they can be wrapped around peeled oranges so people who aren't able to peel or chop produce can get that!
