That's one way to interpret it.
Perhaps depression (or whatever other mental illness you are currently suffering from) is something that'll never go away...but you keep pushing yourself to not only get better, but to also live with it.
Smile, dance, sing through the darkness, and perhaps one day you'll be free from it. Or at the very least, it'll help lessen the invisible burden.
