Popovici is the best. This guy dropped the 3rd fastest 100 free of all time yet this 200 free is even better. That time wins the Olympics - easily, not even close. Untapered.
All the haters who said he wasn't gonna get back to his best are quiet now.

I love how people forgot about him or discounted him like they knew better before he turned 19: "He's past his prime" "He won't get faster in the 100 unless he lifts weights and significantly increases power" "His head position is wrong"

I think some had no choice. The French Olympic trials overlapped the European Championships.
@@magda6446 true. I noticed that. Why did not the French move theirs. They could have used this championship as part of their Olympic qualifying since I understand you can enter 4 swimmer from each country. This way many of them ended up with medals too.

I am from Romania. I followed his interviews in romanian and I can tell you he is very strict with doping. He has a very strict diet and his parents supervise everything to make sure he does't do like Halep. In fact, concerning the Halep doping case, he said that the athlete bares the responsability of checking his foods and suppliments.
I am no scientist, but my best guess is that doping would increase his muscle mass. But I don't see big changes on his body the last years except passing into adulthood... Anyway... It's your opinion... I am waiting for some proofs... It is so easy to say he is cheating, but I would venture a guess that this opinion is more about your inner insecurities than about him :-) See.. I am going freudian on you :-)

He never did. Yet he is duble world champion and former 100 m freestyle record holder. And that was two years ago and many doping tests ago.
