Ive got an 05 GTO, stick, and its got a lot of cool factor. Theres nothing like seeing 20 Mustangs, 10 Camaros, and 10 Challengers on a daily basis but 1 GTO every 2 months. For my money Corsa exhaust makes all the difference but to each their own.

Exactly! Except where I live is dominated by GM vehicles. On the daily you'll see at least 1 gto on the road, 5-8 Corvettes, 20+ Camaros, 30+mustangs, 5 or more hellcats and over 100 challengers and chargers lol. Might be exaggerating but not by a lot . BTW Corsa exhaust sounds amazing! Heard it on a G8 and gotta say the sound if beautiful

I’ve had my 04 m6 GTO PBM since 2015, bought it with 006,780 miles , currently has 62,000 miles… I’m OBSESSED with this car. I’ve done NOTHING but lots of tires, radiator, random easy little maintenance here and there, a new oem clutch over 4 years ago, lots of oil changes, and actually the the oil pan gasket replaced at the dealer while still under the extended warranty I had. I’m about to own it after 5 years of financing, and am still just as obsessed if not more than when I bought it. The 04m6 is essentially 2/3s an LS6 5.7 (the one that had 385bhp in the 01zo6 vette, and then the 02/03 zo6 LS6 had 405hp.) the block on all the 04s are LS6 blocks, LS6 intake manifolds, and LS6 internals. Simply LS1 heads and cam make it the ‘LS1’ but with the right bolt ons, some coilovers and a tune, you’re making over 350hp to the wheels (and that’s what it’s rated at crank so we know it’s not your run of the mil LS1) it runs like a fucking champ, I love the transmission; i daily drive it to work on 91 pump gas in Cali and still manage 13-14mpg in the city X0 when it’s paid off in November, it’s gonna be a 450+ hp goat with heads and some extra bolt ons. I could never sell this thing!!!!

I kept mine stock from early 07 to July 2020. 114,000 miles. They WILL be valuable in another 15 years. Fast. Quick. Sleeper. I’m now looking at an LS3 and doing that up or an LS7. LS 3 is so much cheaper. Not sure yet. I bought mine new and it’s been well maintained so I could probably do up this motor. But I really need the 600+ hp now. 400 isn’t as fun as when I bought new.

I trashed the LS1 after abusing it for 100k miles..went with an LS2 swap, BTR stage 3 cam and all supporting mods except for porting and polishing the 243 heads (yes I know I should've had it done) RPM transmissions level 6 4L60 and custom converter from precision industries..the car is far more fun than ever before! It's always a different experience going to gas stations, almost every time someone comes and talks to me about it..and most are surprised to see the GTO badges..but reliability is just as he said..keep up on regular maintenance and you'll be golden! I wanted one since 2005 and took the risk and it's worked out good so far!

And, some plastic portion on side of the radiator cracked once, and left me stranded. Actually, I think that happened twice. After the 2nd time, I replaced the OEM radiator with an aftermarket all-aluminum radiator. Car runs a little cooler. Still have her....I'm around 150,000 miles. Okay I just got to 3:39 and had to comment 😂😂😂 these cars were 32-34k new in 2004-2006 (04s were prolly closer to 29k) I bought mine in 2015 with 6k miles for 17,999, and right now, an ls2 (05-06) with under 100k miles, will go anywhere from 20-30k (it’s currently 08/21’) and an 04 with under 80k miles will go for 18-25k. I’m talking manuals only. The autos will be a bit less depending on mileage, but even the autos have a beefed up 4L65e instead of the shit 4L60e that Chevy put in almost all their v8 auto applications at the time. The market for anything Pontiac GTO, g8, Chevy SS or any vette, has currently gone through the ROOF and precisely for the reasons stated above 👌🏼 if you can find an ls2 gto for 10k , it’s either salvaged with 150k miles and automatic, or it’s got 200+ k miles and looks and runs like an old dog. These things in halfway decent shape arent going for less than 17 grand

-MPG.. at 55mph flats you get certifiable 30MPG, it goes down from there the faster you go but I still love the day my pop told me how efficient his new ford was and then I showed him the GTO's mileage with way more HP and CI.
It turns heads wherever it goes and people want it. Even people with high end new Muscle dream of a GTO.
It is the most comfortable GM interior of it's day. Very comfy on long drives. The car does not exhaust you if you are behaving yourself.
It runs like a raped ape when you punch it.
Bonus points are that you get to drive it out the side window a lot if you know how to do it. It just drifts for days on end.
The hard part about parts is some are hard and some are easy. My interior needs some repair work thanks to a shop that used heat lamps on a repair (someone took a knife to my car out of jealousy) and damaged the headrest's leather.
The car is fairly well engineered and thus easy to work on. Radiator job is about 10 min from start to finish if you know what you are doing.
I've had plenty of offers but no one can swing the cash to buy it out from under me. I'd sell, if the price was right. But I would miss the car. Unmodified. Unabused, still only 87K on the clock after all these years.

Downside of ownership, parts were always way over priced, diff sucks, axles suck, 4l60/5E sucks, T56 in stock form sucked, the car is a heavy cow, headliners tend to drop out, door panels like to delaminate, suspension sucks, water leaks, with all the age, the interior plastics are very brittle these days. the color, cyclone grey metallic, I also had the same year and color. I sold it and bought a corvette. I don't miss it at all.

I have to disagree with the parts. My window motor is going out and I have to buy a used one. Finding one for 10k and under? That’s laughable here in CA

Guns&Outdoors Definitely. You’d be stupid to not buy a good condition GTO for under 10k.

Parts are no problem, GM HOLDEN, Monaro, built in Oz, just look a little further and parts are no problem.
Plenty of stuff on EBay Australia

I wouldn't mind the LS1, but yeah ,I'd rather have the 400HP if given the option. I'd take any 5th gen GTO. So sad this was Pontiac's last hurrah. Such a beauty. For me, it'd be between a GTO or a Chevy SS

The 2004 LS1 GTO's are even more reliable and just as fast. I've owned both the LS1 and LS2 GTO. Kept the LS1 version because I know they deliver over years and years. Not much difference in power but IMO the LS1 is way more reliable and proven. The LS2 wasn't around for long, mainly due to oil starvation issues that was super bad. That is why GM went to the LS3 so quickly.
