When I was growing up in Punjab Pakistan, during the 50s and 60s there were three play back singers which were the most popular. Lata Ji Mohd Rafi and Talat Mehmood. What a God gifted voice of Lata Ji. Rest In Peace.

One thing which comes unbiased in our minds is that during the period 1950-65 all the heroines were graceful and charming be it Nutan, Mala Sinha, Vyjayanthimala, Madhubala, Meenakumari, Nargis, Shakila, Nanda, Sadhana or Usha Kiran. Each had their own style and grace which was beauty at its best. What an Era it was!!! The heroes were also suited to the story line like debonair Dev Saab, rustic youth of rural Bharat like Dilip Kumar, Bharat Bhushan, Sunil Dutt, Raj Kumar or Rajendra Kumar or a simpleton like Raj Kapoor and to a certain extent Shammi Kapoor. Each one suitable for a particular role. That is why it is the Golden Age of Hindi cinema. In the process let us not forget the great lyricist-poets like Shailendra, Rajendra Kishan, Sahir Ludhianvi, Shakeel Badayuni, Hasrat Jaipuri, Indiver, Qumar Jalalabadi to mention a few renowned names that come to our mind which had a very good musical score by Naushad, Shankar Jai Kishan, Roshan, Sardar Mullick, Salilda, Hemantda, Anilda, O.P. Nayyar etc. The films revolved around the common man and the films were well represented. Will Bollywood see again those days with the ethereal voices of Rafi, Mukesh, Talat, Manna De, Mahendra Kapoor? Time alone will tell. To revive the past the people have to radically change the mindset which can perhaps bring back those times.
