It's easy to say Jermaine was jealous of Michael, but when it comes to family, it must hurt to have a brother who's been gradually pulled away and distanced from the family connection they used to have.

This whole situation is so sad. Michael felt like his family was constricting him, so he forged his own path. Jermain felt betrayed that Michael became this unreachable superstar, and began to lash out in the only way he knew how, as he was overshadowed by his brother's success, and had no other outlet. I think a lot of people can relate to this story in their own way.

Jermaine might have SEEMED jealous, but he wasn't. Many ppl think that about Sagittarius until they really get to know us. Jermaine was likely just missing his brother and this song was born of his frustration in not seeing him and knowing what was going on with his brother. Imagine not seeing your little brother after being so close, then only seeing him on TV, changing inside AND out to the point where he's unrecognizable. I know it might be hard to imagine such things, but I hope we can try to so we can give more understanding, grace, and compassion to him, Janet, and the rest of the Jacksons.

I think Jermaine was jealous of Michael, because Michael had more star power than Jermaine. With that, he should have kept anger within the family. To write negatives about Micheal is one thing, but for him to actually go into a studio and recorded it, is another thing altogether. He meant to hurt Michael with this. Even still, it didn't really damage Michael in the long run. These are just my thoughts, no facts to base it on.

Yes, but Michael had just learnt to distance himself from his family because in the past he always felt exploited by them or emotionally manipulated by his parents to keep working with his brothers to better their careers. Michael was forgiving but he never forgot anything hence not including his father in his will and not making any of his siblings guardians to his children. It's sad they weren't exactly a 'tight nit family' like they made us believe after his death. I mean his own brother Randy broke Michael's damn gate just to so Michael could pay him money he supposedly owed him and that was during a time where Michael was fighting his financial battle with Sony. Just goes to show where his relationship stood with his family. Quite sad.

I believe the final straw for Jermaine was his mom not being able to reach him and they all love their mom more than themselves so he probably felt like that was too far which is understandable. In the end MJ and Jermaine were good since Jermaine was there with him during all the court battles and still defends him to this day. None of the siblings including the sisters were in the will, Jermaine said that's cuz MJ already took care of everyone else by giving everything to their mom and that they all make their own money from royalties and shows. I heard that MJ got wind of Word to the Badd! before it was leaked, so he reached out to Jermaine and warned him not to release it for his own good. He told Jermaine that it would hurt his career more than it would his. Of course, MJ was hurt by the lyrics, but he was more concerned about what it would to do to Jermaine's career. MJ was still the biggest music artist in the world in the early '90s, and the backlash could be severe against Jermaine for dropping that track. Forgot where I heard this story. I think I read somewhere in a music publication shortly after Word to the Badd! was leaked to radio stations. It sounds feasible. I could imagine MJ saying that to Jermaine. And perhaps it wasn't as altruistic as it sounded. Maybe MJ's advisors told him to take the concerned-for-Jermaine's-career approach rather than come at him angry, so he'd be less likely to release the track.

The song You Said expressed this whole feeling of exposing the brother to public opinion about his personal life. Well....... in that family the only 2 who actually had vocal talent were Michael and Janet.

That’s not true Jermaine Jackson had a nice voice & so did Rebbie Jackson. It’s just they weren’t the Stars of The Jackson Family that’s all !!

Yeah that song word to be bad, and by listening to his lyrics I believe was a really honest song from Jermaine's point of view.
There is always a possibility of some jealousy with Michael becoming a bigger star considering they were all raised as musicians and Jermaine is the older brother and perhaps he thought he'd be successful - so I get it. A little bit of jealousy is normal but not to release a song to ruin Michael.
Perhaps it was leaked. Perhaps it was because it was his thoughts about his brother and perhaps someone wanted to make money for releasing it because, I get it. His thoughts and frustrations and feelings would be expressed through song, and some one else could think looky here, it's Michael's brother let's make some money and publicity out of this

That nigga was jealous af, who he fooling? But Jermaine wasn't wrong at all.. Mike was doing too much and he obviously lost touch with reality. Im a big MJ fan but MJ was a punk for not addressing it.

To be honest I believe the powers that be leaked that song. Michael was TOO BIG and buying up catalogs that was worth 100 millions of dollars. Michael was pissing off a lot of greedy ass people. And I believe whoever leaked the song used Jermaine as the fall guy. That song was def made in anger but it was good that Michael said nothing. Cause this was a flash in the pan moment. Most people are just learning of this song. Michael didn't breathe life into it. I do believe Jermaine was jealous but not to the point of hurting Michael. The industry wouldn't allow the other Jackson's to shine despite their talent. They were already too powerful. There was more to this then just making music. Michael was breaking barriers for the future but in return gaining powerful enemies. They wanted that whole family to burn
