    I hope the winner is somebody that South Africa identifies with & can relate with, somebody who’s passionate about this country, speaks a SAn language, lives & promotes some SA culture, somebody kids & women can look up to and who advocates for what’s important to South Africa.

      I thought all these women fit that description once they entered a competition to represent the country. Is there any candidate who doesn’t already fit that description? Am I missing something? I’m sure this sentiment is entirely South African and China although China is more homogeneous. Would Afrikaans and English be considered “SAn languages”? South Africans always boast about being a “rainbow” nation. What next?

      @@samdubazane3979 that’s great. I mentioned relatability & passion for the country, especially, on purpose. A winner needs all the support from us South Africans. We need to feel she’s representing US, putting THIS country forward & celebrates her wins with THIS country first & foremost, otherwise it’s gonna be tough for her even if she wins internationally. Ask Lalela & the whole going ahead to participate in Israel for MU against the feelings of a lot of people in SA - politically it didn’t end well! And I looove & feel for Lalela, as I do for all the queens currently entering - I’m a fan & admirer of all of pageant queens. The queen is a representative of the aspirations of the country whose name is on their sash AND their own aspirations. I don’t need to explain further if you know what the current debate is amongst the entrants.

      @juriebalie3382 Před měsícem +7

      Lalela had haters but despite that she went and represent South Africa despite the ANC not recognizing her and her victory was sweet 3rd place in Miss Universe and winning Miss Supra. The 0.001% of haters not supporting her was left in the cold and disappointed ...she didn't just have South Africa behind her but the international pageant audience.

    • @sanmak3283
      @sanmak3283 Před měsícem

      @@juriebalie3382 that’s very true. She really was a force & deserved all her placings in both international competitions. It was a bitter sweet win for her I’m sure. What I’m saying is her not taking a stand against Israel (knowing where SA, the country she represents, stands on Israel vs Palestine issue), made her lose some support especially from the politically woke in the country, not necessarily us pageant supporters. That’s the tough decision she had to make, balancing her personal ambition vs global/political morality if I can put it that way. Her resilience is unmatched, but at what expense. Really sad for her name to be forever tarnished by something she didn’t create, but as a leader/queen she needed to make her decision. She’s still slaying though & more beautiful than ever.
      Any queen that wins that faces some public negativity needs Lalela’s resilience & continued wins. All the best to everyone, really. They all stand a great chance.

    I really don't get the hate towards Chichi! All the arguments of what culture is she going to represent as Miss SA are downright annoying. Since Bryoni straight up represented her Indian culture at Miss Universe and a culture that's not even hers the Ndebele culture through her national costume. Chidimma was born and raised here, she will represent the culture of the community she grew up in. Plus her grandmother is Zulu, so she can always represent that culture intertwined with her Igbo culture. Like Ndavi did with her Africa inspired National Costume. It's not as If the person going to represent us is clueless of the struggles of our country, it's diversity and needs. She freaking lived here her entire life!! More than anything, I strongly believe this is more than Miss SA. South Africans are venting their fustrations on this poor child that they have with Nigerians in SA selling drugs. Had she been Namibian or Angolan this would be a completely different story. What about Vanessa who was both Angolan and Portuguese who represented SA at Miss Universe as Miss SA?? The double standards are real!! The problem is with the fact that she's half Nigerian, since a lot of people never even bring up her Mozambiquan heritage to the picture. As South Africa we need to do better shem!!! Let's stop the hatred and Xenophobia!! You won't find this happening in Europe, they are unified but we attack each other in Africa. No wonder we are still portrayed as a jungle by western media!!

      No it's not Xenophobic, South Africans are very patriotic about their country they are using their democratic right to voice out their opinions, like you do, this thing of when you are being patriotic about your country is labelled xenophobic has to Stop! In the case of that half Nigerian girl only Home affairs can solve it. As she has Mozambique mother and Nigerian father

      @@Mpume-xo9do Please stop the gaslighting. Call a spade a spade. This is xenophobia parading as patriotism. Her parents might have been born somewhere else on the continent but she was born in South Africa and has birthright citizenship. This is not the first place that this has happened. I wonder how you feel about Kamala Harris running for president in the United States (same thing). I’m tired of people twisting themselves into knots to defend the indefensible. I understand the importance of inclusivity and diversity, but my concern isn't about xenophobia. It's about ensuring that Miss South Africa represents our country's unique culture and heritage. Contestants should ideally have a strong connection to South Africa, including familiarity with our official languages and customs, to authentically represent us on a national and international stage. Perhaps she could consider entering Miss Nigeria, where her heritage might be a better fit for the representation of cultural identity. It's about preserving the essence of our identity in such a significant role.

    First of all, thank you Rina for the recap and second of all i believe as a person who grew up in South Africa you should know how patriotic South Africans are. They are not in any way being xenophobic, well i cant speak to all but what i can say is that they want clarification on Chichi's case because according to the law and what her father said nothing adds up. So all they want to know is how valid is Chichi's roots in SA. But again to each their own. I hope Chichi heals from this and clarify everything❤

      @@soulfulsoil1290 no labels needed South Africans are xenophobic TOWARDS BLACK FOREFINGERS the same way some white South Africans are racist towards them.
      I myself lived in South Africa as a fellow African I respected the law I went to school same for my sister
      My mom worked as a cashier at Spar
      and we still faced xenophobic attacks harsh criticism and treatment
      We aren’t Nigerians so no we didn’t sell powder we didn’t make noise on the streets and u say they do, we grew up in a women only flat.
      But we were still in danger during every xenophobic manifestation.
      Kwere kwere everywhere we went even in school even the black teachers used this word to point us out, yet my fellow classmate who recently moved from Australia to SA never got this treatment why? Because she’s white so she’s part of the rainbow nation right?
      Although I don’t like the way chichi’s dad is handling this and I’d be lying to you if I said I like the way Nigerians live in SA especially in sunnyside where we also as none Nigerian felt unsafe because of both powder selling Nigerians and xenophobic South Africans,
      I dont understand why a half Lebanese is also competing in miss SA this year AS SHE SHOULD! but why isn’t any asking her what South African language she speaks? Or where in SA did she grow up or WHAT HERITAGE WILL SHE REPRESENT?
      One South African answered well because SHE LOOKS COLOURED and she isn’t Nigerian.
      But I think the only true answer to this is SHE ISNT BLACK AND DARK SKIN.
      Cause I’ve seen that not only are many South Africans xenophobic but also colourist reason to why life in SA is so much easier for everyone else but black people.
      So you tell me why as someone who isn’t Nigerian, someone who didn’t enter the country illegally as y’all also like to claim, someone who went to school everyday even on Saturdays if it was sport day and we were playing against other schools, someone who’s mom worked, someone who didn’t break any law you do tell me cause y’all have answers for every blk foreigner tell me why we still faced the same treatment as chichi?
